So ive been on the regimen for i think about 9 days, lost count already lol, but i know its been more than a week. Anyways, ive seen kinda an improvement in my acne, but im still getting new pimples, but i guess itll take more than just a couple weeks for full control lol. Anyways (again), my skin has started to get flaky even with moisturizer twice a day. I do the regimen twice a day and follow all the instructions, except i use a little bit less than one or just one full pump of Dans BP (16oz.) because anything more than that seems like way too much. After i cleanse and use the BP, i generously apply olay sensitive moisture therapy lotion. But still, i get flakes hours later and i hate it, looks so weird and disgusting, and my acne is enough for my face, i dont need flakes to add to my problems.
I dont know what to do, honestly. What do i do, use? Ive been thinking of getting some of Dans AHA+ because it sayshere, "Flakiness control: If you are on The Regimen and are experiencing ongoing problems with flaky skin, adding in glycolic acid as outlined above will completely eliminate flakes." Would AHA+ really help? If so, how long would it take to no longer get flakes or see an improvement?
I dont really get irritated by the BP right now, but im afraid that the AHA will because its only been a little over a week on the regimen. But i need a solution NOW for the flakes, i cant wait for a month to start using AHA just to get rid of flakes, there has to be some way to stop the flakes. PLEASE HELP!

I had the exact same problem and I'm on my fourth week now and it seems to be calming. Maybe you started of too quickly with the BP? It's important to only use a very small amount at the beginning and gradually build it up. At the end of week 2, I upped it to half a fingers length instead of a quarter and the flaking was crazy. So now, even though I've been using it coming up a month, I only use half a fingers length at night only and none in the morning, as of yet (my acne is pretty mild, though). Try using some jojoba oil! It has helped me a lot so far, I just use it before I apply the BP and a bit more with the moisturizer.
Alsooooo, I wouldn't use the AHA yet, as it is quite strong and you could risk turning your face really red, or more red, which'll just be worse.
I don't know if you wear make up or not, but if you do, try not to With my flaky skin, it just made it look TERRIBLE.
Good luck!
Hi DarkDubzs,
I am at the end of month 4 of the regimen and have been gradually been getting clearer. For over the past month, I have almost had no acne (although still have fading red marks) and I have been struggling with moderate/severe acne for the past 7 years so this has been amazing. The flakiness and burning was the WORST part of this process but I encourage you to stick with it.
It sounds like you might be using a lot of BP right away so I would recommend cutting back down to 1/2 pump of BP one time per day for the next week and gradually working up to 2 times per day and then working up to a full pump over the next 4-5 weeks. I was not up to a full pump at twice a day until week 5 and I also had to back a little bit around week 3 because my skin was irritated so I recommend being patient even if it is frustrating to slow down.
Dan recommends not adding AHA until at least week 5 and I can tell you it can burn so you would to carefully incorporate it only after you are totally adjusted to the full amount of BP. Slowly helping your skin to adjust to the BP will make a big difference in the amount of flakiness in the meantime and also investing in jojoba oil. I have tried different oils and jojoba is really awesome to add to the regimen. I was skeptical but it makes the regimen easier and it is an easy/safe add-in.
Even with the slow start, my face was SO flaky so after touching base with other people on the board here, I did the jojoba oil exfoliating method. Before washing my face, I would rub quite a bit of jojoba oil (like 6-8 drops), let it soak in for about 5 minutes, and then carefully massage/rub my skin with my hands which gently collected the flakes. Then I would wash my face, put on the BP, and moisturizer (with between 3-6 drops of jojoba depending on if it was morning or night). It made for smooth application of make up and I did not look like a scary creature.
I would not turn to a mechanical exfoliator like a scrub or clarisonic as the irritation will make the acne work. Irritation equals acne. Be gentle with you skin and your self and it will get better soon.
Best of luck!
Thanks for all the help guys. Definetly gonna take all your feedback into mind, and will cut back on BP a bit, my face has been okay with BP, but i think i started using too much suddenly, so i think ill try half a pump or like 1/4 finger legnth twice a day. I also switched from CeraVe foaming facial wash to Olay Classic Sensitive Foaming Face Wash because i noticed the Cerave wash was kinda drying; switching to the olay wash seems to have helped already just using it twice. If i still keep having problems with flakiness after some more minor adjustments and some time, i might try Jojoba oil. I also plan to get AHA+ eventually, after a month, to try it out first, why not go from "clear to perfect?"
I'm currently at one week and my face is SOO FLAKY tooo
you can see a scaly patch on the surface of my skin and it looks so bad
and it feels super tight. How has your skin been?
I can't help but pick it and stuff. Wherever I smile, my skin cracks and it creates puzzle like pieces in my skin, making it super visible that I look like a lizard. I only use BP at night too, and I haven't even used BP for two days and it's still so dry.

If you find that the lower dosage isn't keeping you as clear as you'd like, I'd consider increasing the BP again. The Regimen work best when used as directed for however long it takes to get clear.
The jojoba oil and AHA+ are great add-ons to the Regimen and help a lot with flakes. But AHA+ is not recommended until your skin has fully adjusted to the BP treatment, which can take about 4 weeks for most people. If you do decide to incorporate AHA+, I'd start with only a pea-size amount mixed with LOTS of moisturizer, and apply once or twice at most for the first week. Slowly increase the amount until you are using one pump of moisturizer and one pump of AHA+ every other night. For added hydration and softness, add 5-6 drops of jojoba oil to the mix. Personally I think these 3 products work best when used together instead of separately.
Don't expect overnight results! This process takes time but in the end is well worth the effort. You may go through brief periods of flaky skin but that is just the AHA+ doing its work of sloughing off the dead skin to make way for new skin. This is what gets rid of the red marks.
10% glycolic acid is a strong formula and may sting A LOT if used undiluted on your face. It's really better suited to the tougher skin on the back and shoulders.
Try not to get discouraged! The early weeks are always the toughest and flaky skin is one of the biggest complaints.
Best of luck!
I want to be honest with you, but my account will probably get deleted. It's WORTH IT to me if I can open up a new horizon to SOME PEOPLE so that they can see a new perspective and view on the world of acne...and I hope those some people continue to share the love to others who suffer from acne. All those products you're using are worthless, except to the companies who sells them to you. You don't need any of them... Our ancestors have been treating acne for thousands of years with 100% natural solutions, not "Dan's Gentle Cleanser" or "Proactiv" .... My family suggested turmeric to me as they saw my struggle without acne for about 7~ years. It was the biggest stepping stone with my acne suffering. After that, I knew going natural was the way to go. Ever since I've been, literally cured, I haven't looked back, and I haven't bought another acne product, because I don't need to. There are permanent solutions that mammoth acne corporations don't want you to know about, because they will lose you as a customer. Please take my advise seriously.
