Why Doesn't Dan Make A Sunscreen?

Seriously, why doesn't he? After all, if we're all actually using as much benzoyl peroxide (or AHA+) as he recommends, we definitely need it! Not to mention if you're using Tretinoin or Retina- a, too!

At the very least, there should be a section on the forums devoted to discusion of sunscreens. Here in the great state of Maine, the sun is finally starting to show it's face again, and I want to be able to go outside without my face falling off or being burnt to a crisp, so I came to acne.org to do some research on sunscreens and see what Dan has to say.

Well, it doesn't seem like he has very much to say on the topic. All I could find was a small section of the FAQs in which he recommended two sunscreens- Olay All Day UV Moisturizer - Sensitive Skin, and Philosophy brand Hope In A Jar Oil-Free. He didn't even explain why he likes them, or why they work particularly well as he does with most other products that he recommends.

So, has anybody tried either of those sunscreens? If so, what did you think of them? Does anyone else have any other recommendations?

Dan has a new spf moisturizer that is expected to be for sale sometime before summer. cheer.gif

In the meantime, Olay Complete for Sensitive Skin spf 15 is good for general day to day use. If you need something stronger, I haven't tried that Philosophy one Dan likes, but there is a fairly new Neutrogena Clear Face spf that I've used a couple of times and my son also uses it without issues.

Here's how it rates on irritancy and comedogenicity. http://www.cosdna.com/eng/cosmetic_7acd103568.html

Oh wow, great! Is that data for the Olay one or the Neutrogena one>

Also, is the Olay Complete- Sensitive Skin spf 15 okay to use instead of Dan's moisturizer EVERY day, or only days during which I'll have significant sun exposure?

And when exactly in Spring is Dan's supposed to be for sale?

That second link I gave was for the Neutrogena spf product.

You can either use Olay Complete spf 15 every day during the day if you want to. Spf 15 should be fine for daily incidental sun.

We still do not have an exact date for our new spf moisturizer. Sorry.

How does the Olay Complete spf 15 compare with Dan's current moisturizer? Can I substitute the Olay Complete for Dan's moisturizer or should I be using both? Does the Olay moisturize as well as Dan's does?

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunblock Liquid SPF 70 is phenomenal on the regimen... No white hue, blends exceedingly well w/moisturizer, UVB and UVA protection, non-comedogenic, and oil free... Definitely my go to for SPF protection.

Personally I use the Olay SPF moisturiser purely as a sunblock product. That is, I apply the regimen steps as per normal (including moisturiser) and on the days I know I'll be exposed to the sun I then put a layer of Olay SPF over the top. It gives a nice shiny greasy monkey look for about an hour but it all soaks in nicely and I've not suffered any sunburn on my face at all (I live in Australia so very hot).

Have you looked at Sun Putty? It's a natural sunscreen that I have found really helps my complexion. It is available online. **Moderators edit link removed-see board rules**
