Bp & Moisturizer Doesn't Absorb Very Well.

I've been using Acne.org moisturizer, cleanser and Benzoyl peroxide for a few years now. Every few months I will start the regimen but give up due to problems with BP:

  • First my skin doesn't look healthy after applying BP
  • It doesn't help my mild acne.
  • It doesn't absorb very well; after I've gently massaged BP onto my face (for about 5-10 minutes) and it dries I can feel a layer of it still there (like a smooth hardness).
  • After I massage 2 pumps of moisturizer on my face gets very greasy, when I rub my finger on it then look at my finger it is really shiny and covered in moisturizer/BP.

So I gave up on BP and just use half a pump of moisturizer every day, using any more than this makes my face greasy and my acne worse.

I have dry and flaky skin, the moisturizer clears it up very well but at the same time gives me a few pimples.

I have also tried adding jojoba oil or using AHA+ instead with no results. AHA just makes my skin look damaged like the BP.

I'm look for any advice I can get as I'm stuck!

Thanks

Edit: This is day 2 and my skin hasn't reacted too badly, just very slightly irritated. I used 1 pump of moisturizer and it was a bit stingy but settled down quickly. Face isn't looking too greasy; it's acceptable for leaving the house and I may give it a pat down with some kitchen roll.

I always found the BP absorbed pretty well, but I've heard the moisturiser is pretty greasy. I personally never used the DKR moisturiser (because I couldn't afford to purchase the whole kit at the time). I'm going to start it again soon with all of the products, but this post has made me kinda skeptical. I really hate moisturisers that stay on the skin and don't absorb. The moisturiser I use now is completely gone within at least 2 minutes, but I wouldn't really recommend it with the regimen.

Yeah, you can always feel the moisturizer on your face and it starts to feel dirty. It's so refreshing when you wash it off.

I feel the same way about the Cetaphil lotion. It makes my face so shiny and greasy and it seems just like it never gets absorbed.

I just use to moisturizers because of this. I use a gel based moisturizer in the day so I don't look greasy and I just use the Cetaphil at night. I don't really mind the shine and greasy feeling if I go to bed.

Why bother then with the regimen? What kind of AHA's have you used?

I had the same issue with cetaphil in the beginning then I used CVS oil pads, there in the acne products isle.

What you do is you put 2 on your forhead 1 on each cheek and 1 on your chin. Then wait 1min or less till the oil is abosorbed.

This takes away both the oilness and shineness that cetaphil gives you.

Cetaphil is the only moisturizor I have found that doesn't break me out.

I also use 30 drops joboba oil. Because cetaphil alone doesnt help the dryness.

The CVS oilpads also help take away the oil and shineness of joboba oil so no worries.

One word: persistence. You can't just stop, then start again and expect to have good results. That's not the way it works. You need to give your skin time to get used to a new skincare regimen. You also need to be gentle. Don't apply more Benzoyl Peroxide than you need to. I know Dan says to be generous with it, but I found that to be wayyyyyy too drying on my skin. Seriously, I looked like a lizard and there was nothing I could do.

These side effects are normal when first starting out: breakouts, itchiness, redness, irritation, dryness, etc. You will feel uncomfortable at first. It will go away gradually.

I personally didn't like the cleanser and moisturizer from acne.org. I recommend Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream. It's the most moisturizing moisturizer you will find on the market. Clears flaking, guaranteed. It's really thick and greasy, but it gets the job done.

Give it 3 months, do everything Dan says, if you get clear but you're still uncomfortable, start experimenting. If you find that your skin is worse by the end of 3 months, stop. It's as simple as that. Be persistent and have faith.
