Hello guys, I'm a male that unfortunately took 3.5g of vitamin B5 daily for like a month. I stopped 3 months ago and I'm losing all of my hair. It is no noticiable yet, but I'm worried I'll be bald soon.
My hormone levels are in good range, I have read that there are many cases (also caused by B5 overdose) that resolve themselves over time, others continue to suffer from hair loss for years (up to 8 years). I have seen a better rate and speed of recovery in women than in men, and it is very similar to androgenetic alopecia (even if you don't have a family history of it). Anyone who has very high androgens can lose their hair, that is why many bodybuilders without the genetic predisposition to hair loss still lose it when using steroids. Several cases of men I have seen who have solved their hair loss have done so with DHT blockers or by sending their male hormones to hell (like the guy who took an inositol overdose).
In my opinion, it is a structural damage (but I don't know why it persists so long after having completely stopped consuming it) that makes the follicles more sensitive to DHT. So I would be hopeful that PRP will restore follicle strength against DHT, although I have not seen anyone trying it.
Ive seen a few people post about shedding after high doses of B5, and for some, it slows down over time once the body rebalances. PRP is sometimes used to support follicle strength, though results vary. Here's a basic overview of the processof PRP hair restoration [Edited link out] It could also help to track your shedding with photos and check in with a derm to see if it looks more like temporary shedding or early AGA.
