Hello,

I've created an account to share my findings with others and hopefully change someones life for the better as I have done for myself. I will keep this brief as I can, but would appreciate that if you try what I suggest and you have success, that you post a reply with some information about your success. Please only continue reading if you're at the stage where you're willing to 100% commit to a diet that is difficult and will involve being extremely strict, I had to do this to be able to clear my acne, but it worked!

I'm currently 29 (male), and have had very bad acne since I was about 13. I have tried numerous skin care products like pro-activ, with all of them not having much affect, except for drying out my skin and damaging it too. For the last year and a half I have been absolutely determined that acne is caused purely by what I am eating, and has nothing to do with hormones (although hormones may amplify it). I have been testing numerous diets and recording ingredients and results religiously, and over time I have narrowed it down and been able to prove to myself what causes my acne (my results are just my own writings, so not exactly proof for others), but I urge you, if you are determined to get rid of your acne, try what I suggest!

From all the narrowing down I have found that every food or drink that I consumed that may have been processed by the chemical hexane gave me acne.

What is hexane? - hexane is a toxic chemical that is used to separate oils from a product, so it is mainly used in the production and extraction of vegetable oils which unfortunately is used in almost every product that youll find on a supermarket shelf. Ive also found that it is used in A LOT of other processed foods. Any foods that contain soy, vegetable oil (including olive oil, but extra virgin olive oil is ok because its cold pressed), artificial sweetener (stevia leaf is processed with hexane), and dairy (hence why a lot of people have positive results when cutting out dairy from their diet).

I went from having 15-20 pimples (about 5 or so deep cystic acne on my neck and face) to literally no acne at all, perfect skin! My exact diet consisted of the following foods: eggs, bananas, rolled oats, durum wheat pasta, tuna, tomato cooking sauce (tomato puree, spices), almonds, brown rice crackers, extra virgin olive oil, rump steak, carrots, broccoli, water. Your diet does not have to be exactly the same, but so long as you are 100% it was not processed with hexane, which unfortunately is usually only whole foods.

Once my skin was perfectly clear, I ran numerous tests by adding one thing to my diet that is processed with hexane to help cement that it is hexane that causes acne (for me at least). I tried adding the following on a case by case basis, waiting for my skin to clear between tests: canola oil, tomato sauce with natvia sweetener, yogurt, standard olive oil, soy rice crackers, and a few others. EVERY one of these resulted in my acne returning the next day and then clearing up after continuing the original diet.

For this to work, I had to be extremely strict, only sticking to my exact diet where every food I put into my body I was 100% sure it was not processed using hexane. You can do your own studies about this, however there is almost nothing online, except for some concerns about hexane being deadly but the FDA still allowing it.

I urge you to try this for yourself for only 1 week and come back here to tell me your result, but please only try it if youre going to be 100% committed, which unfortunately means that youll only be able to eat cooked meals at home which you make yourself, eating out is a good chance that the food will contain some oil that has been processed with hexane.

I'm interested to see more positive results like my own, but if your results are not as positive as mine, please post anyway with details!

Regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

This is very insightful, as I had no idea about hexane in processed foods. A few years ago, I noticed a sensitivity to all oils (and foods containing oils). Consuming oils (either by cooking with or eating foods containing them) has always made me break out in very painful cystic acne. One of the biggest breakouts I had came as a result of using coconut oil for about a week. My entire face was pained and full of deep cystic acne that didn't go away for a few months. Foods containing oil have been very difficult to avoid, especially in social settings (like work luncheons/outings). It's also difficult, being that I follow a vegan diet and have even more limited options. All in all, though, this is great insight, because I've been under the impression that all oil (cold pressed or not) have triggered my acne- so I'll have to do my own research. Thanks again for sharing!

Thank you for all your hard work. I have adult acne and recently cut out all sugar. However I kept getting cystic acne and blind pimples and determined the culprit was stevia. I was using 100% pure stevia (no hexane that I know of as it was not listed as an ingredient).Once I stopped using stevia my complexion has been clearing. I will commit myself to watching for hexane with my diet going forward. But you are correct:; eating non processed foods to the best of our ability is the key to better health, including our skin.
