Eating Liver for Cystic acne?

Many know of the effects of megadosing on Vitamin A. They'll supplement large doses (50,000-100,000iu+ daily) for months and see improvement in their acne. This is similar to Accutane (Isotretinoin) treatment using a synthetic form of Vitamin A.

Supplementing on your own is frowned upon because there is no one to monitor your bloodwork. It's mainly stigmatized because of the proposed danger of toxicity to the liver. There are multiple ways to get Vitamin A though, not just from a supplement, (i.e. eating liver, cod liver oil, animal fat etc.) so what I'm wondering is basically if anyone has had success treating their cystic acne through natural supplies of Vitamin A - whether it be incorporating liver into their diet or taking a tablespoon+ of cod liver oil a day.

I've been trying for almost two months now to treat my cystic acne on a Paleo diet and it's quite frustrating to still be getting these large, painful cysts. I'm on my last leg here and really feel like I'm grasping for anything that might work. The list of things I've tried over the past two months is insane (bentonite clay masks, honey masks, Paleo diet, complete sugar elimination, heavy green tea consumption, drinking apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil application, installing shower head and faucet filters, changing pillow cases and sheets bi weekly, eliminating dryer sheets and laundry soap with chemicals, no touching/popping/squeezing, vitamin D3 and zinc supplementation, African black soap, activated charcoal soap, steaming with essential oils, cold/hot compresses, working out 3 times a week... And the list goes on). I'm exhausted! I'm currently trying to manage stress through meditation and yoga. The liver thing is one of my last straws, I've started by ordering grass fed, desiccated liver capsules. I'm going to begin this regime for several months a long with eating liver weekly. If this doesn't work, my only real hope is the Green Pasture fermented cod liver oil/butter oil.

Any and all input is soooo appreciated.

Sorry about your struggle with acne. That's a lot of treatments you have tried. Just one question, is the Paleo diet not helping at all? Are you seeing no results?

Thanks for the reply.  :)

I'm currently on something like day 40 of my Paleo eating and I've violated by eating sugar (Udi's muffins) and drinking alcohol, but just a few times each.  The diet seems to be helping a VERY small amount.  Just this week I have a lot of new cysts on my neck and shoulders.  I think they're healing quicker now though.

My best guess is that I'm still detoxing from all my previous bad habits because I was in pretty deep!  Or I just can never enjoy sweets again without breaking out.  I'm not giving up though!

If you say that the cysts are healing quicker I would take that as a good sign. One thing I've figured from talking to people is that everyone heals differently. Also from my experience even eating a little extra sugar just once can cause a breakout. At least initially. But then it's also hard to lay off the sugar completely. Keep at it and update us on your progress.
