Hi I'm 19 year old healthy male who developed really bad acne in last 8 months and I recently tried the no dairy diet along with using dans regimen and after 30 days there was major improvements in my skin (mostly due to the diet i think). However i decided to still go on accutane as I want to drink milk and eat ice cream and pizza and etc. I'm on week three and i'm experiencing a tough initial outbreak along with dry skin/lips which are all annoying. I am willing to tough it out if it means i can go back to a regular life of eating what i want without worrying about my skin. However i want to make sure its worth it and ask is there anyone who had to diet before accutane but AFTER accutane never had to worry about their food? Or if you still had the same problems and ended up dieting anyway? Also is there anyone who once dieted for their acne slowly reintroduced the culprit food back into their lifestyle without problems (not through accutane)? Its hard being this young and realizing i would have to give up pizza and ice cream. Any advice is appreciated.
No one has crystal ball to let you know, but results are individual- some people can eat whatever they want and no acne, some have to keep dietary regimen, and some have to continue some form of acne treatment or even repeat a full course of isotretinoin (Accutane). So you will need to find this out by yourself.
I wish you all the best and keep us posted regarding your progress so that we all can learn from it!

Wait let me get this straight...your acne is better from you regimen but you want to go on accutane so you can eat ice cream?
Also, Ben and jerrys and so delicious carry amazing dairy free ice creams at most grocery stores and theres many cheese replacements like daiya cheese. Just sayin. Lots of options out there better for your health
Okay, so I was on Accutane twice so I hope I can offer some insight here. While I was on Accutane I could literally eat anything I wanted and not breakout(after the initial/breakout phase). Now that I'm off of it, I have to be more careful about what I eat. If I eat a cupcake(or 3), I can usually expect a breakout soon. For example, last week I made a batch of cupcakes, and as a result I woke up to a pimple on my forehead yesterday. That being said, I used to have SEVERE cystic acne that covered my entire face, so one pimple is nothing to me. Even a person with relatively naturally clear skin will often break out if they eat too much junk. The way I view it is, now my skin is like a "normal" persons, so I do still break out here and there, and that is perfectly ok with me. Like Exning said, there are SOmanytasty vegan alternatives to your favorite foods if you are that concerned with it. "So Delicious" is my favorite vegan ice cream, you honestly can't tell the difference. As far as pizza goes, I never break out when I eat pizza and I never have. I know an AMAZING vegan pizza recipe if you're interested though. It's hands down the best pizza(vegan or not) I've ever had, and even my non-vegan husband approves. Best of luck to you!
this is pretty late, but I just wanted to post an update if anyones interested. I decided to quit accutane pretty soon after making this thread as the initial breakout was honestly getting pretty bad and simply wasnt worth the idea of eating dairy again. In fact i got some pretty bad scarring from just those three weeks, mainly because one cyst grew abnormally large and i regrettably popped it, so continuing it would just depress me further. Also apparently, my derm says I have too high cholesteral (for some reason) to really continue Accutane anyway. Yet when i talk to my physician, he says my cholesteral is great, so I choose to believe him over my derm. Either way, I kinda regret taking Accutane when my skin was really good.
Since then ive really committed to the diet, started drinking soy milk and delving into vegan alternatives and I certainly have had lots of good skin days, but my skin still isn't great as I get the occasional random cysts. Also i still find the diet difficult as ALOT of products have milk in it that I ddnt realize. Ive also learned to cut out caffeine, sugary foods, candy, shaving my face and apparently swimming in chlorinated water. I wont lie, these restrictions are really pissing me off and the fact that my skin still isnt completely acne free bothers me. Even now i have 2 pretty bad cysts that I gather is related to the spaghetti I ate, perhaps wheat might be another thing to cut?I'm once again considering accutane but I'm not enthusiastic given my last experience.
