Another B5 Pantothenic Acid Study

"Dermatol Ther (Heidelb).2014 Jun;4(1):93-101. doi: 10.1007/s13555-014-0052-3. Epub 2014 May 16.

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of a novel pantothenic Acid-based dietary supplement in subjects with mild to moderate facial acne."

Introduction

" The purpose of this study was to determine the safety, tolerability and effectiveness of daily administration of an orally administered pantothenic acid-based dietary supplement in men and women with facial acne lesions. "

Conclusions

The results from this study indicate that the administration of a pantothenic acid-based dietary supplement in healthy adults with facial acne lesions is safe, well tolerated and reduced total facial lesion count versus placebo after 12weeks of administration. Secondary analysis shows that the study agent significantly reduced area-specific and inflammatory blemishes. Further randomized, placebo-controlled trials are warranted.

Thanks for posting. I've experimented with PA for the last 3 years or so. It definitely works for me. That said, at times of high-stress, my skin does worsen. My current regime is one I randomly took from the Internet:
- 1g of PA (3 x a day)
- 500mg of L-Carnitine (3 x a day); and
- 500 of Niaminicide in the morning.

The regime has cleared me - a man, late 30s with acne since I was 13 - for about 6 months now. May be temporary, may not.

Ive asked doctors in the uk if pa is safe to take to excess but they have no idea.

Anyone else taking PA?

(Should also say that I also use Dermalogica products and Tria's blue light device).

would be interested in hearing others' experiences around the world.

Thanks Buzz! I experienced tingling in my fingers over the winter after I had increased the level of PA to 5g/day or so and had taken it continuously for a year or so. However, for the last few months, since I stopped taking PA, I've started to get 2-4 new spots every day. Not happy! I see no alternative but to go back to PA as it's the only thing that clears me. I have some worries though: (a) the apparent need to increase the dose after a while to achieve clear(er) skin; (b) the tingling and (c) long-term use. Anybody else taken PA for a several years? Any tingling?

How many months/years has this worked? Any tingling fingers or other side effects? Cheers

Tingling in fingers is a common symptom of low vitamin B12. It might be wise to have a blood test or take a B complex alongside. Taking isolated B vitamins can put the others out of balance as they have synergistic effects!
