Hi! I'm 23 years old and i've been suffering with acne since i was 14.
I know it doesn't seem like a long time and i know there are people out there who has been suffering for a lot longer but when you feel like you have tried every possible way to get rid of it, it begins to feel like a lifetime. Does anyone else suffer from depression because of this stupid condition? I used to be loud and happy, i loved meeting people and making people smile. Now all i want to do is stay home in bed, i don't want to go out anymore, i don't feel like the same person, i feel trapped. Does anyone feel the same way? How did you get out of the slump?

I've tried every possible thing you could think of to cure this pain in the ass condition, my last resort before a second round of roaccutane is a naturopath. I've begun seeing her, i've had Millions of tests done, i get the results in two weeks! fingers crossed its something so simple that can just be fixed with diet.

Before i started seeing her, i was diagnosed with ibs! yay! Now since seeing the naturopath my IBS is very well controlled and i barely notice i have it anymore but the depression thing i just can't seem to get a handle on. Someone tell me i'm not crazy!

I think that its very natural for us to feel sad or depressed because of acne. I mean its great that some people don't seem to care and can still be happy but i dont think most of us are like that nor should feel the need to try to force a fake happiness on ourselves. Its like if someone you love dies it would be normal to feel miserable about it. Same with acne. It ruins our appearance and changes our life.
That being said though, i think we need to find a way to still have some joy in our life despite this affliction. Sure our life might not be "normal," yes we are different - but we can still experience things, grow as people and have moments of pleasure. Even if you can just hold onto one thing in your life that brings you happiness. I try to remind myself of those things i like even if they seem small - cuddling my cat, lying in bed reading, enjoying a favourite meal.
Society has sold us many lies - that we need to be happy all the time and the only way to be happy is to be popular, look a certain way, buy lots of stuff, have plastic surgery, copy celebrities etc etc. We are brainwashed! I think its perfectly ok to be unhappy sometimes - sometimes when you suffer is when you really learn something or grow as a person. Of course no one wants to be miserable all the time though. But find your own happiness - dont be brainwashed by the media. Try to appreciate the "simple things."

have you tried eliminating hydrogenated oil from your diet? if this is the cause it may take between three days and three weeks for all the trans fat in your body to go away... but for me it worked . no more acne ever except when i eat hydrogenated oil... which is never because who wants acne and clogged arteries?

let me know if it works read food labels and be careful if you eat at fast food places that are not reputable or dont list ingredients... dont eat partially or fully hydrogenated oil because even a little causes acne, in my experience.
