Can Low Weight Cause Acne?

I was never really into the whole diet thing. Some people say that healthy diet can eliminate acne, some that it's totally not connected to skin problems and some say that it can help with acne but it doesn't totally clear it. Well, I don't know, it's just that I really love some types of food (definitely not sugar-free, diary-free etc) that are considered not very good for acne and I don't want to take away the pleasure of eating them. Acne is a hard struggle, but I prefer to have some pimpes and eat all the stuff I want than to stay away from chocolate, spicy food or coffee. Especially that until this year I haven't had any skin problems without following any diet whatsoever, just eating what I like.

So, I'm not on a diet of any sort and I'm not planning to be. The thing is, I'm very thin. I've always been, it's genetics, I guess, but this year I've lost some weight (I really don't know why, maybe it's the stress) and now I weigh around 47 kg (103 lbs) with the height of 168 cm (5'6" ft). I'm not anorexic or anything, I eat normally and I like to eat, it's just very difficult for me to put on weight. I was wondering if acne can be caused by low weight because my skin problems started around the time when I've got thinner. And, if so, if anyone knows what can I do to put on some weight in a healthy way, without a very restrictive diet.

thanks

I believe that eating disorders can affect acne, but low weight in general probably not really, if that's your natural body type.

No, I would say low weight does not cause acne. But low weight can be the outcome of an overactive immune system and inflammation in adipose tissue - and this immune system imbalance can certainly cause acne. What to do about it? Who knows.
