Alright so I'm having a bit of trouble filtering through the plethora of information on a dietary approach to acne. If anyone can help me out with some simplified advice, I'd be very appreciative. I'm open to about any change in diet.

I'm turning 18 and have had problems with acne since I was 12 (Attached is a picture of my skin exactly one year from today). Now I've had around 30% improvement since then with not much change in treatment routine but there's obvious room for improvement.

I eat fairly well as far as I can see, but since I'm no expert, it might not be the best for my skin. These are the foods you'll find me eating/drinking on a daily basis:

- I drink a good 2 liters of water per day and not much else

- 2000 I.U. vitamin D, 50mg zinc

- Fair amount of fruits (apples, grapefruit) and quite a bit of spinach daily
- Chicken breast or beef, Ensure nutrition drinks, canned tuna, brown bread

- Bran cereal, muffins (not the health conscious muffins), red cargo, black, and dark wild rice mix

- Cheddar cheese, cottage cheese

- Cayenne peppers

Bad habits:

- I do frequently drink on most weekends. It would be common to find me having 10-15 drinks on Saturday night. I

- Sometimes skip a meal or two due to appetite suppression of the medications I have to take
- I've gotten out of the habit of working out this past year because I have no problem staying in shape, leaving my only limited exercise to 30 minutes of walking to and from work every day

From what I've read so far, you want a "low glycemic load diet". Is anything standing out here? I don't have huge portions, and I don't usually have any super sugary foods. I use tea tree face wash interchangeably with a benzoyl peroxide cleanser and lack of sleep isn't a problem because the past year of school has allowed me to sleep 12 hours per day. Is there any changes I could be making to help with my skin? I know, I know... the world's new years resolution: stop drinking and exercise more, but there has to be some other answers here. Is there any supplements I should look into, obvious problems in my diet or lifestyle?

Thanks for the advice.

Personally, after suffering for more than a decade (I'm 26 now), I believe that leaky gut syndrome and/or candida overgrowth are the reasons that I'm still dealing with acne. So I'd say research those topics, but you're still fairly young so hormones could be a factor. Diet is important. Cut out wheat and dairy for a few weeks and see if you notice any improvement. Avoid processed foods. Start eating paleo. Also, take a look at this guy's thread:

I intend to adopt the vitamin and diet protocols that he claimed were helpful to him.
