I'm Eating Healthy But I Still Break Out

Hello guys. So about 2 or 3 weeks ago I fasted for about 6 days - no foods, only fruit & vegetable juice. My skin definitely got better in that time but I still had some break outs. I broke my fast on 6th day. I also changed my diet since then. I basically eat fruit and vegetables now but I still break out.

Here's a sample of what I've been eating:

- Mashed potatoes

- Salads (large variety) + black olives (optional)

- Mixture of potatoes, squash, beans, etc with ketchup (heinz)

- Kale

- Vegetable soups, bean soups.

- Brown rice

- Fruits (apples, bananas, blueberries...)

- Dried fruit

- Seeds (sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds)

- Nuts (Walnuts)

Drinks: Water, lemon water, apple cider vinegar (organic), vegetable juices. Today I drank a glass of water + baking soda as well. I've been drinking apple cider vinegar for over a week.

Am I missing something?

Now, don't get me wrong guys, my acne has got better but I still have some pimples on my forehead and jawline.

How long have you've been eating "healthy"? 2-3 weeks?

You have to stick with it for many months. It took months for my acne to dwindle on an organic diet.

And by "healthy" do you mean all organic, free of GMOs, processed foods? A GMO apple isn't the same health-wise than an organic apple.

And eating "healthy" hasn't necessarily "cured" my acne; I still get the occasional breakout. It has, however, cured my cystic acne. I don't get cystic pimples anymore, just the typical zit or blackhead. Abide with your diet for months. Repetition and perseverance is key. Goodluck!

Thanks! Ok, I'm going to try to stick with it for more. One more question I have is this: Extra Virgin Olive Oil (organic), is it good or bad for health? Does it trigger acne?

Ok food allergies normally affect the Jawline. especially if the acne is dry and has a slight itch. the big five are Dairy, Nuts, Grains, Legumes and soy. Beans could be your problem as they go under legumes. Nuts are a problem food. Brown Rice is a grain also. If you feel the need to eat rice, eat wild rice.

Forehead acne is normally caused by carbohydrates (potato), sugar etc. It is known as adrenal acne. get your B vitamins. especially vitamin b5 and b3. always take with the b complex. activates it better.

Follow these steps and you should see results quickly (3 or 4 days) if not please let me know.

ps. watch out for the baking soda. It can sometimes contain corn starch in the ingredients.

Arul

ps. watch out for the baking soda. It can sometimes contain corn starch in the ingredients.

Thanks! I actually noticed baking Soda was a trigger for me after starting my new diet. I also took out my organic Brown Sugar, and canola oil. I don't eat anything I never tested for anymore.

As for you,

KodRoute

, listen to

Arul

and

KimchiiMonsturr

You can also take a test to see what foods you react to if you want to make it easier. I would suggest seeing a naturopath. Some good tests: Food sensistivities, Allergies, Intolerances, Leaky Gut, Gut Health, Digestive health.

You can look on my topics for more information. Research them all before deciding. I took a sensitivity prick test, and got good results, but then I took an allergy blood test, and came back with no results. So research them all and just know what you are getting tested for.

If I cut the beans, rice & potatoes then I don't know what else I could eat. I already lost much weight after giving up certain foods (like bread) and I am pretty skinny. I also don't know many 'healthy' recipes. Mom will not like the idea of cutting these foods as well. She'll really get angry with me and tell me she'll no longer cook for me.

Yeah. I was in the same situation. You can either get tested like I did, or test yourself like Arul did. Or, what KimchiiMonsturr was suggesting, just eat healthy, non-gmo organic and wait months to see the results. So you should try One of these 3 things.

It's good that you're not eating processed/junk food, but your diet isn't really very good for reducing acne. It's way too heavy in carbohydrates. Like others have said elsewhere, you want to eat almost like you're a diabetic; low carb, low glycemic ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_index ).

Your diet should be mainly composed of vegetables, nuts/seeds, meat/fish/eggs (including organ meats and other offal), and fats like animal fats, coconut oil, olive oil, and others that aren't high in omega-6 fatty acids (such as soy, canola, "vegetable", peanut, which should be avoided). Foods that are starchy, like potatoes, corn, beans, grains, should really be minimized. fruit isn't as bad but you shouldn't eat a lot of it.

Also, keep in mind that while eating this way is definitely a good thing for acne, it's not a guaranteed solution for everyone. Some people have other problems going on, like hormone imbalances, that diet alone will not correct.

I have experimented with both low carb and high carb diets:

I currently eat a high carb diet. Find out what works for you, everyone is different.

There is the paleo low carb crew.

Then there is the high carb crew: McDougall starch solution/durianriders are part of the high carb crew. look them up on youtube.

Do your own research, each side thinks it is right. Maybe a balance.

Also you say you are eating healthy but if you wanted to get more serious you could eliminate the citrus lemon and nightshades potato or switch to yams.

People on this board have been known to break out from citrus and nightshades. Also it could be soy. Wheat and other allergens are often in packaged foods including soups.

You do not have to starve yourself. It is important to eat enough food even when eliminating things. Abundance is good. Best of luck to you. Everyone is different so find what works for you.

Not all bodies are the same, sure, but when it comes to acne, most people are better off eating a low carb / low glycemic diet. This is supported by research. When your blood sugar rises it leads to more insulin, and that increases acne.
