Questions About Herbs And Also Mini Update

Hey everyone,

I haven't been on acne org for many months now, not quite sure why, my acne is still here more than ever but honestly felt like over the past 3 years I've exhausted all my options other than chemical which I wont touch and also every doctor won't see me anymore because they keep saying I'm the healthiest person they've ever come across and that they have no answers for me :/ hm.

Anyway. So I guess I'm learning to just live with acne, it's definitely still hormonal. I'm still living and eating clean more so than ever. At the moment I continue to get the hormonal acne its like spot on every month, week or two before my period. Mostly around my checks and forehead. Skin isn't even oily or dry etc, not itchy, red or irritated. I don't really get painful cysts anymore but that could very well be because I've been on the pill for a decent time. Mostly my acne is a few decent pimples that time of the month and the rest is just little annoying pimples type thing so many its just gross. Lots of clogged pores and backheads.

The only thing that ever helped my acne moderately was going on the pill/spiro, yes I know that's bad etc but to be honest I probably would have killed myself at the state my face was before I went on the pill so although it's bad, it's the only thing that's keeping me sane considering I have no symptoms from it. I of course was hoping to figure out my acne before I have to come off the pill, no luck so far and 3 years have passed. Shame.

So really the only differences I've implemented recently is I use both blue and red lights/treatments specific for acne and the face so been using that for a month but has made no difference the amount of acne popping up and the texture of my skin/pores.

I also have been focusing on deep breathing many times throughout the day. I don't feel stressed, to be honest I don't remember the last time I was able to feel the notion of being stressed enough to identify it but figured it can't hurt keeping relaxed. I'm in such an 'eh' whatever mode and just get on with work. Also been drinking 'drinking coconuts' as I know how good they are for you.

My question is more about herbs. I've started drinking ginger tea, I really like the taste and I know ginger is very beneficial etc but I'm also curious about taking saw palmetto, I've tried it twice before but I never really stuck with it because I saw no effects but thinking I might try it again.

I'm just curious if people can even stay on saw palmetto for over a year? Is that dangerous? Would it promote breast cancer if one is already on the pill, would the amount of estrogen just end up a big no no?

Same with ginger, would it be ok to drink ginger tea every day?

I just keep reading that people should stay away from herbs for long periods of time but surely something like ginger root would not have a bad long time effect if only used in very little moderation?

Anyway so yeah just curious about herbs and maybe also if anyone swears by some? Or take any? Am I wasting my money? ;p

I already tried liquid herbs combined specifically for my problems but that definitely was a big waste of money.

Just wanting some opinions :)

Hope everyone else is going great !

I'm sure you'll be fine drinking a couple cups of ginger tea a day. I've never heard of ginger being bad for you.

If you've taken spiro without any serious side effects you might be fine taking saw palmetto. I don't know how long you can take that supplement for though.

My experience with saw palmetto wasn't that great. Helped lessen breakouts and oil but, made me extremely irritable with headaches. Saw palmetto also caused me to have diffused hair loss and brain fog.

I think DIM is a better option and is much safer than Saw Palmetto.

Thanks for your reply :) I appreciate it.

I've definitely looked up DIM before but there was always so many mixed reviews so I was just confused and didn't wanna take a risk. But I actually think I will look into it. Although I'm curious if it's safe on the pill? Do you think it might throw my hormones off more whilst taking DIM while on birth control?

Have you tried it before? :)

Thanks again so much!

No problem :)

DIM removes excess estrogens so I don't think it would be a good idea to take it while on BC.

I haven't taken DIM yet but I just ordered some from vitacost. I've been reading about it and thought I'd give it a try.

If you do a search on here for "DIM" you'll find some very helpful info :)

Thanks for your help.

I've read that it's best not to take DIM on the pill but it didn't really explain why. If DIM makes the pill not as effective I wouldn't mind too much because I don't terribly sexually active, I guess I could always go into a vitamin/health shop and ask the people there what they think.

Although now I'm a bit confused haha, if DIM works by removing extra estrogen and thus helping hormonal acne how is it the strongest birth control pill with the most estrogen is used to treat hormonal acne (diane, what's moderately working for me right now).

Definitely a bit confused I thought estrogen was superior to testosterone and androgens in the sense of preventing acne ?... hmm

It depends on your issues, but its usually the progesterone, which is why people use progesterone creams. But some bc contain an androgen form of progestin, the synthetic progesterone. You should check into what's in your pill.

Yea it does greatly depend on whats wrong with you hormonal wise.

DIM is supposed to remove bad estrogens(xenoestrogens)

Bad estrogens can cause all sorts of problems like cancer and a multitude of other health issues

DIM pretty much gets rid of the bad estrogen. I even read that its an anti androgen.

DIM also helps with free testosterone so I guess that's why body builders use it. Helps you loose weight in the areas that it needs to be lost. It won't make you hairy or anything because it has no hormone mimicking properties. From my gathering its just going to get rid of the bad estrogen so your body will only absorb good estrogen.

We are all exposed to so many pollutants full of xenoestrogens. I live pretty much in the middle of orchards and the planes come and crop dust all the time. I also drive 30 mins on the free way with the windows down a few times a week. I should of tried DIM before saw palmetto but all this hormonal treatment approach to acne is new to me. I learn something new once a week :)

I feel DIM is worth a try, it's a affordable and lots of people said it works. Try it out for a couple of weeks and see whatcha think. You're using BC for your skin so adding DIM won't be a big issue. You'll just have to be a little more carful when you decide to do you know what ;)
