Zinc - Causing Me To Feel Horny And An Increase In Oily Skin (Btw, I'm A Female)

Hey Everyone

So I've been trying to take different supplements to see if it could possibly reduce my acne. I started taking 30mg of Optizinc again for the past two weeks and its causing me to have excessively OIILER skin in addition to an elevated sex drive (Btw, I am FEMALE) I already know I have high testosterone/androgen levels and I know zinc could play a part in possibly increasing it but I thought zinc was supposed to stop the conversion of testosterone into DHT which is mainly the cause of the acne/oily skin.

I don't know if the whole elevated sex drive is even possible by taking zinc supplements but I'm positive with me, it does make me hornier (which is kind of concerning my BF cuz it seems he can't really keep up with me and I'm sorry for the TMI). I have taken zinc in the past and noticed the same symptoms so I decided to try it out again, and I am coming to the same conclusion. I'm going to stop taking it within the next couple days or maybe a week to see if it will level out.

Could anyone offer any insight?

It would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Harley

Zinc boosts testosterone while "modulating" the production of DHT. Confusing, I know.

Zinc is an essential mineral but with those side effects I would say that you're getting more than enough zinc in your diet without supplements.

There are better supplements to block DHT than zinc. There are some users (female and male) on here who have seen success with saw palmetto and stinging nettle. Of course one of the biggest things you can do to limit acne hormonal activity is to cut dairy and sugar from your diet (see Dr. Hyman's research on this issue).

What's the link to Dr.Hymans research? There's so many different articles?

I also seem to have the oily skin problem, except I'm male. I've been taking zinc tablets for almost a year now, and they have seemed to make my skin oily. I'm pretty sure I'm already getting enough zinc in my diet, but I'm still too scared to stop taking them in case I break out or something..

I've noticed the same thing too! I increased my zinc intake with an additional supplement with my regular multi when I was sick last week and not only am I feeling a little more oily I broke out BAD this week.

I was so confused on why the sudden breakout and redness, is this possibly the zinc?

This seems to have happened to me too. But I've been taking it for a while and I didn't think the oiliness and redness was from the zinc :/ I'm gonna stop taking it for a while and see how it goes :)

If zinc is on the high side already it will make it worse. Try having fermented dairy and vegetable juice and see if that helps.

So I stopped taking the zinc 3 days ago.. I'm getting a bit of a breakout. Could this be from not taking it anymore?
