I originally heard of applying a turmeric paste to the face on acne.org. I read up on the internet a lot before I went ahead and did it... and I am so glad I did. I have been on this website before many times to get advice on fading the hyper pigmentation left over by pimples... but after the 3rd use today I decided I must make an account and inform everybody that the spots can be faded. Since summer 2010 my face has been doing so well and all my hyper pigmentation had just recently faded. On top of that I was getting compliments galore on how nice my skin looked. However, recently due to improper diet I had a horrible break out on my cheeks. The breakout has just settled down but left behind these ugly red marks actually one was so bad it was a deep purplish red color the type that takes several months to a year to fade naturally!! So when I read about turmeric I gave it a shot.

I have been using the turmeric paste ( 1 tablespoon turmeric powder mixed with a little bit of yogurt and water) and have been applying it all over my face (you can spot treat as well). Today was my 3rd day using and when I was washing my face I was SHOCKED!! I honestly could not believe my eyes! That deep purplish red colour spot had lightened 75% it‚„s now a light pinkish red color. All the other marks have also lightened to a light pinkish color. ALL IN 3 DAYS!! :D:D:D In addition to the fading my skin feels so smooth! And I have also read that turmeric powder helps smooth out fine lines & wrinkles... not that at my age I have any but that‚„s another plus!! Only downside is the staining so if you decide to try this method prepare for yellow face and yellow hands... yellow pillowcase. I do the mask before bed so that way in the morning after a hot shower the stain has washed way. After I wash my face I put a clean soft towel over my pillow and go to bed so my pillows don‚„t stain. Also do not wear your best night clothes as those stain as well from your hands. It‚„s all worth it!!

I am going to keep up the paste for another week and see if the spots fade away completely!!

Lol, I'm glad it worked for you! No magic though, just science

I've actually never heard of anyone having a true negative reaction to it, though lots of people hated the yellowness.

I love the yellow tinge it creates on my face.It diffuses some of the redness. I just looks like a have a skincare cream on my face while temporarily hiding the fact I have tons of red marks.Ha!

I found a cute little Indian ethnic store in Seattle to buy it from. :ninja:

@jjmrpg04

Yes it will make your skin yellow... but only temporarily. Mine is gone after my morning shower!

I advise you try it when you don't have anywhere to go. I usually do the mask at night.. then wash my face.. then shower and wash my face again the next morning. You might have a slight yellow tinge left on your face though. Also, I've heard that you can remove the yellow stain leftover with milk on a cotten ball.

I get some pretty intense peels once a month...that's the only thing I can credit to really fading the old red marks.

I'm just a face mask addict.

i dont know about applying tumeric to the face (all though my parents told me to for acne, will it work as a spot treatment?) i have heard that curcumin (tumeric) is very good for inflammation (when taken orally). Anyone got any advice on this? Will it give an initial breakout?

Do you have pale skin? I'd like a bit of a warm yellow glow, but I'm afraid my pale skin will be stained too yellow.

Yes, eating anti-inflammatory foods, herbs and spices are good for acne. Do it. Eat lots of bright, colorful veggies, and especially the sulfur containing nutrient dense brassicas and dark greens like broccoli, spinach, cabbage, etc. And use lots of flavorful spices. Drink teas. Tumeric is in yellow mustard and yellow curries, btw. And eat fish for the omega 3 EFAs.

I am casper white.Like,I'm probably more white than you will ever be.

The yellowish tint isn't that bad.You put it on at night, rinse it off,and by next morning's wash it's gone. No biggie.

It's the same thing. There is an extract of turmeric called circumin, the main active chemical in the root, but I highly doubt you have that - its rarely sold in powder form. When you can find it, it's usually in capsules. More than likely its just a local name for the turmeric. Is it an intense yellow?

I am extremely pale and I've never had a problem with turmeric staining. I don't use as much as the OP did. I use barely a teaspoon (mixed w/ any combination of yogurt, honey, green tea, aloe), and just leave it on for 10 minutes. If it leaves behind anything it isn't obvious, and definitely not noticeable the next day. I'd recommend giving a small amount a try at night!

Yup, seems to just be another name for turmeric in certain areas (China in particular).

Giving this a try myself -- if anything significant happens one way or the other, I'll be sure to let this topic know. :P Would be great if others could do the same for future acne sufferers. :)

Hi! I just use plain home made yogurt. I leave it on for quite some time atleast an hour. Then I wash off. I put some yogurt onto my skin and let it sink in for a few minutes and then wash off as this helps the stain come off.. but still not completely. Then the next morning I take a hot shower and wash my face not with hot water thought just warm water.

I have also been drinking a tablespoon of turmeric mixed with water! I try to twice a day. I've only been doing this for 3 days so far hopefully this will help with breakouts!

I am not to sure if a tablespoon is too much : S ??
