Sorry guys, I'm in summer school right now so I will be able to reply only one time out of the day to everyone. I'm taking 6 hours a day + excess work so it's hard to get some time but I'll try my best.
😥
We'll miss you around here then! But I'm sure we'll have a stack of questions for you when you get back! Enjoy the summer school (if you can!).
Regarding fish oil for depression, in my experience the difference between how I feel when I'm taking the fish oil and how I feel when I'm not is almost as large a difference as the difference between how I feel when I'm taking my antidepressants and how I feel when I'm not. Seriously - it makes that big a difference.I take the fish oil for depression, so it was an unexpected bonus to learn that it's also helping my skin. 😀 And it is, too - oil production on my face is normalizing, so the T-zone is less oily and my cheeks are less dry, and I'm having less trouble with blemishes on the backs of my arms.
For anyone who's dealing with depression, I highly (highly!) recommend The Depression Book: Depression as an Opportunity for Spiritual Growth by Cheri Huber. It's the first thing I've encountered in 20+ years of struggling with depression that managed to change my relationship to the depression.
Thanks so much for that, it's very true. I am back to my normal self where I am always full of confidence now instead of like before, where I was always down (just a few days ago) when I was completely dead without it. How much are you taking? I find anywhere above 2 grams works well for emotions.
One thing I learned is that even though this may not clear acne, it will sure help clear the attitude that comes with it. Most people would say that's even better =)

Aw thank you! I am glad you are here helping out too, you guys rock! This is like a second family, a place where we all belong so to speak 🙂 I'll be here daily, just much less or less often till the end of june.
Well Ive started on fish oil, however I have a couple of questions.I've just started, so is it smart to only start with 2 capsules a day?
How do you recommend I up my dosages ?
By the way, the capsules I bought are 1000mg (300mg of EPA+DHA).
Is the brand I use good?
I'm not too sure about that brand (not sure if it's reputable), though, yes the best way to start is about a gram, then raise it up weekly (safe all around, adjust to your liking).
The success rating varies, also, because of our individual varrying diets. Be sure to figure out what you are deficient in.
Sign up to nutritiondata.com and then add your daily intake, it will sum up everything for you. It will list what your levels are for vitamins.
I can't stress enough how important getting a solid diet in. It's okay if you eat junk, as long as you can get your daily necessary intake in there somewhere, the rest won't hurt so much. If you had to eat only two veggies: it's broccoli and carrots hands down. If you want a supreme vegetable, it's spinach. But it's not a substitution, but an addition.
Remember, Vitamin A through E and K + zinc, and omega 3's! Most important are vit A and E, but make sure the rest are sufficient.

I was searching for what foods I should be eating to get those vitamins. As you said Romeo before. Broccoli, carrots and milk were some.
This site lists foods for A-K: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/stay_healthy/food/vitamin.html
The site looks funny and it says for kids, but I'm sure it's all the same 🙂
I'm going to be getting more milk (even if I'm lactose-intolerant 🙁 ) and buying some of the yummy fruits and veggies they have listed there 🙂
Im going through kinda a bad stretch here and im not sure what to do yet. Its funny on Sunday my face was really good, but I had cereal for breakfast, then went to the movies and had candy and popcorn, and had a burger for dinner. I know...god awful, but I did it...that night I started to breakout a little and I couldn't be too mad because I clearly did it to myself. But 3 days later im still breaking out a bit and its really frustrating. Would being bad that one day really still be affecting me? Ive been doing at least 2 or 3 tspns of ACV the last couple days and thats doesn't seem to have stopped anything so im feeling a little skeptical about that. ACV seems like it should work or it shouldn't...and ive been keeping it constant and having at least a tspn a day...I didn't have any on sunday but that shouldn't have made much of a difference.
I HAVE been taking a little less fish oil over the past few days, but not much less. I calculated and before I was taking around 5 grams of EPA/DHA, so taking a couple less pills shouldn't be that bad. Should it? Im kinda worried this is a poor brand...this is the only bottle ive had thats smelled fishy. Im gonna try to get a new bottle tomorrow...how much do you think the quality could be affecting me and how big of an indicator do you think that fishy smell is that its bad or low quality?
Yall can give me your thoughts if I want but I just had to get my thoughts out because im a little frustrated.

Cool! As you can see, broccoli, carrots, and spinach fit almost each of those categories :). Also beans for vitamin B. Most B sources are high 06, so we can be deficient on that. I like beans for that reason.
If you are lactose intolerant, do not take it! Take vitamin D from other sources, and a calcium supplement (if you don't get enough from foods). But don't take anything you are alergic or sensitive to!

Bite into one capsule and do the rancid test, if it isn't rancid then it's fine :). I get fish oil burps sometimes, but rarely, it can also be due to poor digestion of the fats etc.
It is unlikely that it can keep affecting you a few days in. If you are also stressed out a lot, it can deplete your zinc stores and with minimal zinc in your system you can also break out. I learned the hard way. Remember that antihistamine trial I went on with H2 (zantac)? Well in a long term basis, it blocks zinc absorption and I broke out like I NEVER have before. I took it for a week, and after I stopped for a week, and supped with zinc, it all reversed. Perhaps in the next week it will actually make progress from the baseline. But the point is, there are two things that can be wrong... you can be sensitive to particular foods. Possibly a huge spike in insulin can cause a sebum increase (if I understood correctly), but I find that it's generally too little to affect much, but it still can. Next, is that you are deficient in vitamins your body needs, especially at our age when it demands it even more than some of our clear skin friends who do not have a high hormonal level.
Genetics are such a Bia!

I won't be drinking any milk then. lol. I was about to drink two cups later too
I will definitely be getting some broccoli and carrots.
Although for D, two of those three things you said not to take. They are: egg yolks and milk. There is still fish, would the fish oil count as that? Probably not 😛
Too bad you don't have too much time, a vitamin thread from you would be great. 😆
Without reading through this thread, is there anyone else who thinks taking fish oil may have made the acne worse? Or is it just the fish oil bringing all the dirt out of the skin or somethin?
There is NO WAY Omega 3 fish oils can make acne worse. Your break out is either a coinsidence or due to your diet.
does anyobody have any side effects from doing this regime for so long...I have stopped and not sure if its the fish oil but I noticed my wrists and legs and neck seem to have this constant dull aching pressure and its been frustrating me alot. Not sure if its tension and nerves that may be causing it or food allergies but yeah it could be the fish oil since I have taken it for nearly 2 years at a high dosage...
I also took roaccutane in 04 so not sure if its an after affect of this or just depression?
So many contradictions with EPA Vs DHA. I heard form many EPA is better for Depression and too much DHA inhibits EPA. But then they say the brain is made up of DHA which is essential. But most theories repon to EPA being more important than DHA.

I have the exact same problem >.< I thought it was only me. It's only on my face though, around the forehead and upper cheeks area. It started at the forehead when I was using Murad a couple months back, the moved slowly down to the upper part of my cheeks. At times it's not too bad, but it gets really annoying at others.
Any idea what it is?
i also do not know what i have done wrong, i was fairly clear last week and the week before last, even though my food choices were not the best ever. however, this week is a different ball game, i get at least six new white heads per day even though i upped my fruits and veggies to 5 portions/day. i'm still taking the same brand of fish oil at the same quantities, nothing has changed, so why then the breakouts for no apparent reason, its not even that time of the month, nor am i stressed more than usual. i nearly made an appointment with my derm to return to tane, he was fully booked-up, so i left it there. any thoughts? is the fish oil then maybe not the best quality? it does'nt taste rancid or anything. but you can get a different brand of fish oil that is a lot more expensive. also, stopped the zantac last week already...help.

how much did you take per day for the 2 year period and did it, at least, clear your acne? i think most people on the board is still taking O3, so its difficult to say.

Perhaps since you upped your fruits and veggies, your body is now going through a cleasing/detoxing period, therefore toxins are now purging through your pores. That's my best guess. I know my skin purged when I first went on a very cleansing diet of fruit and veggies. I also think with any good acne treatment your face will purge at first, bringing new zits to the surface. I don't know--but this fish oil just keeps getting better and better for me. No cysts anymore just very tiny pimples. My skin is totally smoothing out...I would take a look at the better qaulity fish oils....From what I understand there is a lot of fish oil supplements out there that are of very poor quality and full of toxins, like mercury and other crap.

thanks, you may be right, in general i eat 1 to 2 portions of f & v and hardly ever drink any water, i will also try a different brand of O3 (hopefully a better quality). i was also very enthusiastic about O3 until this last setback that was a bit disheartening, to say the least.
How much vitamin E are you guys getting through diet?
Here's a good reason to take Vit E with o3
One last note about essential fatty acids concerns their relationship with vitamin E. Some studies have reported that there is a significant correlation between vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acid supplementation. Findings suggest that an inadequate intake of vitamin E results in a decreased absorption of omega-3. Hence, some experts suggest that vitamin E supplementation may be helpful in conjunction with omega-3 supplementation. (Wander, et al.)
One thing I want to emphasize is that after taking fruits and veggies, it will take 30 or so days to fully show the benefits. Reason being is that the new cells formed will be based upon what you are eating today, which lie under the older skin on top. The skin cycle is about a month, so do not be disheatened about no immediate results with fruits/veggies till one month. Your skin will improve gradually. Same with omega 3, since the skin cells on top are not affected as much as the new skin being formed, the time it takes to see results for what you take in today will be about a month in.
Keep on pushing!

yes, even though i did not not have breakouts while eating poorly (a week ago), it could be impacting negatively on my skin now that i'm actually eating better. i thought that if you consume bad foods you get acne between 1 and 3 days after eating it, not like seven days later after you had already changed your diet. i'm going to also try a different brand of O3, capsules this time, i don't always feel like taking the liquid oil, especially if i feel a bit fragile  will also try some digestive enzymes, vitamin e + zinc. hoping for a better week. thanks for the tip on carrots, i now take a few carrot balls to work every day.

Found this:
VITAMIN E AID. This antioxidant is a strong anti-inflammatory, says Mahadev Murthy, Ph.D., of the Nutraceutical Network of Canada. Also, when you consume lots of fish or fish oil, you need extra vitamin E for proper immune functioning, say Tufts University researchers. The daily dosage: 400 IU vitamin E.
I think I'll be picking up some Vit E today. :o)

B vitamins are totally awesome for moods--but I have heard/read that an excess of B-12 can actually cause acne. I think if you're eating a healty diet with plenty of veggies your fine on B vitamins, unless you drink a lot of alcohol which depletes B's. I'm sure that a lot of you already know that if you decide to take a multivitamin that you should find one w/out iodine. I learned the hard way a few years back. As I mentioned before, I'm in school for holistic health and nutrition. A lot of my teachers are practicing nutritionists and one has worked in the vitamin-making industry. In her opinion, she thinks that most vitamin supplement brands use very poor quality ingredients. It's best you get your vitamins from real food whenever possible. But if you do decide to go with supplements, I can't stress the importance of the quality of the brand enough.

A good idea: carrots with some milk, broccoli with cheese and salsa. That's what I generally do. After these, I take my fish oil supps and the rest. I take 1 vitamin E with fish oil too
So it's like this:
Breakfast: carrots, apples, milk, egg whites (fish oil, vit e)
lunch: yogurt and salad (with some ranch for fat to absorb the salad best) and fish oil. I get these at wendy's at school. The healthiest options I can find.
meal: pinto beans, cheese, salsa, some spinach (b complex, zinc, fish oil).
dinner: whatever, most likely lentils and white rice.
then last meal: broccoli and cheese (multi vitamin, fish oil).
In there, I put some fatty foods like ice cream, cookies, brownies... mmm lol!
That is how i avoid gluten. Before it was like wheaties for breakfast, oatmeal squares for dinner, pasta for lunch, apples for snacks. Healthy, on paper... but reality nope.
