My cystic acne won't go away and it makes me really sad. I've had acne since I was 13 years old, but I didn't begin getting intense cystic acne until I was about 16 or 17 years old. That's more than 5 years that I've been dealing with cystic acne. I went to this esthetician who did acne extractions and she extracted all of my cystic acne. Come to find out you're not supposed to extract this type of breakout. So now I'm left with this huge patch of scarring on my cheek from her extraction. I told her that I have a patch of scarring on my cheek because of the extraction and she said, "well that's why I also provide a laser treatment for the scars. It'll only be an additional $1,000 for 3 sessions." I felt betrayed. I felt like I was getting conned out of my money. She created a bigger problem and now she wants me to pay more so she can fix it. Now I get severe and painful cystic acne where the scarring is, probably because the skin is really weak there. I'm not sure.
I have one supportive friend who sees past the acne, but everybody else seems to call me out on it. My mom points it out every time she sees my face. My dad as well. My grandma tells me that it's the "poisonous American air" and that if I were back in Armenia then my face would not be this way. I have other people telling me I need to wash my face more, and others telling me I need to wash it less. I don't want to leave the house without makeup yet makeup seems to make my acne worse.
I just feel hopeless at this point.
Oh jeez. Terrible. Have you tried the regimen? That should get you clear.
Then, in the meantime, since you are female (I think from your name), it's also a good idea to get your hormones checked to make sure you don't have PCOS or anything.
No one should live with acne and there are treatments. You can get clear.

you need to see a dermatologist for cystic acne. they can provide medications strong enough to combat it

This isn't always the case but foods like dairy (especially milk) have been shown to cause cystic acne for people. In my case my acne was caused purely by dairy and nuts.
Maggie I'm honestly so sorry you have to go through this, including with that doctor that presumably negligently made it worse.
Eating really well doesn't hurt but every time I read cystic acne warning signs go off to me because of my own life. I don't take strong medications lightly, but people who have had significant cystic acne should not wait and play games while it could/does cause scarring. The pain it causes throughout one's life is not worth it while Dermatologists play games. That's just my opinion.
Maggie there are improvements and solutions that help scarring so don't be too down on things. Even the worst scarring I've seen improved 80-85% at times, even my own was improved like 85% seriously. So you have to keep positive and do tons of research and look for decent doctors and good stories etc.
The unsupportive nature of your parents is really hard. I know because my parent was the same way in many respects. It feels like it sucks the soul out of you when loved one's do things like that. But in some ways they may just be ignorant to how much it hurts you, not that it makes it better.
Listen, If nothing is working and you have or face scarring, Accutane is always an option once you weigh the risks. I truly wish the best always keep your head up, things get better you just have to keep striving it's hard.
