Hi I'm a 17 year old male and have been dealing with acne since I was at least 12-13 years old. My family has a history with acne with my mom having it until she was 18, and my father having it until his early 20s. At age 14 I was so depressed with my acne I went to a dermatologist and got prescribed doxycycline 2 pills a day with a cream called tretinoin. For at least 6 months my forehead was clear as baby's butt lol and also my forehead is the only place that I breakout everywhere else on my body I don't get acne. Anyway back in September of this year I decided to get off the antibiotics after researching how bad they were and that they lost its effectiveness of keeping my skin clear. Although the drugs kept my acne at bay, it still wasn't keeping my skin clear. So I got off them and for at least a month and a half things were going good I wasn't breaking out badly until around middle of October I started to get a lot on my forehead and I've been constantly getting new pimples every week since then. I have at least 8-10 active ones right now and I've tried everything to figure out the cause from changing my diet to drinking water. I just don't know what to do anymore I don't know if it's because I got off the pills or that I'm just a teenager going through a phase. I'm hoping that since my forehead is bad right now that soon it will clear up for good. I have also been depressed and crying regularly lately and my parents and teachers have noticed I'm more depressed. I don't go out anymore I just stay home when I'm not at school. I hope someone can tell me if I'm doing something wrong or that it gets better.
you say you're acne is only on your forehead, this means its more likely due to oils and stuff than hormones, this is a good thing. makes sure your hair is out of your face - this helps a lot with forehead acne. also, males tend to respond best to accutane if you wanted to try to give that a go and especially if its just your forehead it would clear in no time. also i think the worst of what you are experiancing now is your body coming off the antibiotics, i truly believe you have the type of acne that will get better eventually with time and a simple routine. acne sucks i get it, hang in there it will get better.
Dude I am in the exact same boat as you, I started getting acne around 12 and I'm 17 now. I'm pretty sure my case of acne isn't as bad as yours, but I have to deal with patchiness or dullness of the skin 24/7. I want to echo bellacat, try to keep your hair off your forehead. Whenever I have bangs or whatnot I always seem to get forehead acne much more frequently. Try getting a shorter haircut or even just get a hairclip to keep the hair off your forehead at home. I hope your condition gets better, and try not to pick at the pimples or touch your face! When it does get better you don't want to deal with scarring either. I wish you the best, and I hope you can also find a cleansing routine to follow sometime soon. And keep drinking water, its a good way to keep your skin hydrated. Just keep a bottle of water with you at all times, you will pick up the habit.
Hey update: currently my acne has subsided quite a lot actually. This week I only have a handful of "noticeable acne" I only have a breakout on my right temple, but they're dried out. The rest of my forehead is small and mostly clear with the exception of like 2 pimples. I've been just washing my face and showering and it hasn't prevented me from getting new pimples, but it definitely has improved quite a lot. I'm hoping this phase is almost over lol
