I was a very happy teenager until i hit puberty and got acne. That was 6 years ago.everyone else around me had clear skin while i felt like an outsider . Since then i have become obsessed witn getting my skin clear. Finally my skin has cleared up but i still look in the mirror and see that girl with acne. i get a pimple and unlike normal people its all i see and think about. even when people tell me my skin looks good, i just cant see it. Its consuming my life.if i have a breakout i feel depressed and dont want to leave the house and i feel happy only when my skin is clear.i know my problem is in my head because my skin isnt nearly as bad asit use to bebut its like the acne has left a permannet scar on my mind.Does anyone else feel like this?

I Tina I totally feel you. I'm turning 21 in two weeks and I'm been battling acne since 14. It went away for a year but it came back full force 6 months ago after I switched my birth control to a "generic brand." Now my face is covered with cysts and hyperpigmentation. I cannot look into people's eyes when I talk to them, especially people with good skins. I'm sure that they would judge me secretly and be happy that their faces are not nearly as gross as mine is. I know exactly how you feel because I'm experiencing it right now.

Hey Harley

Thanks for replying! Getting a breakout is the worst, especially cysts, I've been there but as hard as it is just know "nothing lasts forever ",they will go away.i met a girl about 2 days ago with really bad acne but there was something different about her,she didn't care to all! She didn't try to wear makeup to cover them up,she spoke with confidence and after a few minutes I didn't even notice her skin. She really inspired me to not care as much anymore and try accept myself. Have you tried going back to your original pill?

Wow that girl you described really was amazing. I don't know what was going through her mind, but I would very much like to be just like her. Thank you for sharing her story with me. I've been back on my old birth control pill for a week now. I haven't noticed any positive change yet. I've got a few more breakouts on my forehead but I'm sure they were caffeine-induced - I'm a senior in college and I could not live without my morning coffee. Guess it's time to quit now.
I guess we are our own worst enemies. Can't let those negative thoughts beat us. Hang in there. It will go away with proper treatment. Stay strong and healthy girl:).
