Hello everyone
I've been visiting this site for a while now and just recently made an account as I have a question of my own and also because I'd like to talk to people on here.
The question being, is acne worth dying for?
it may sound like a strange question but lately I've been thinking about how much acne restricts me from being who I want to be and the life I want to live. I avoid the love of my life because I don't want her to see me with how my face looks and I don't think I can have the job of my dreams because of acne.
So now I ask should I risk dying to get rid of it. I know it's extremely rare, but there has been reports of people dying from a direct result of Accutane and I'm not just talking about suicide but how it can mess your body up completely.
So should I accept that acne is a part of my life and live for the little things or do I go all out and try and cure this once and for all. Sounds like I'm being dramatic and that's probably because I am being dramatic lol but we all know how acne can destroy a person especially when you have it really bad. Anyone who can talk sense into me or just help in any way would be really appreciated. Thank you
lecus
The title of this post made me think you were talking about something a LOT more drastic than just taking accutane. Where have you heard of people dying as a direct result of taking it?? I swear, the internet is dark and full of terrors if you search hard enough... Lol.
Anyway, if acne is affecting your life to such an extent and nothing else has worked for you then I would certainly go for the accutane. There are risks and potential side effects, but the majority of people that take the medication don't suffer them. I am one of those people! As long as you discuss it with your doc & follow their instructions throughout the course of treatment you should be fine. They monitor you closely month-by-month anyway.
The way I see it is it's all about weighing the pros and cons. The major reason why people take accutane is because the risk of taking the medication is so overshadowed by the depression and misery that they are currently dealing with daily due to their acne. There are going to be side effects with any medication that you take. Just listen to all the drug commercials on TV where they list all the potential side effects at the end! But, for the majority of people they take the medication with no problem at all.
Anyway, I don't mean to push accutane so much, I just think that the internet causes a lot of unwanted fear in people sometimes and don't want others to be miserable because of it. Literally if you googled "X causesY symptom" for anything you would probably find some horror story hidden in the dark corner of the internet lol.
Hi! Thanks for your reply
yeah haha it is quite a dramatic title but it's just a sort of worst case scenario question I've been asking myself. I sometimes think I can live life with acne and other times not so much.
I know what you mean about the internet being full of horror stories about pretty much anything lol but for some reason there still seems to be more surrounding accutane than most other things.
I'll give it some more thought but you're right in saying that most people choose Accutane because they can no longer deal with the misery acne brings.
I struggled a lot with acne and anxiety at university. If I'd known about the Accutane option I would have pursued it without hesitation, regardless of the potential side effects.
In terms of acne treatment I'd consider it to be the nuclear option. If all else fails and you genuinely can't "live" with acne you should go for it.
