I want to begin with mentioning that my problems go far beyond my skin, but I can't help but notice the damage on the surface when I look in the mirror. Having said that, I try to alleviate my depression (in regards to skin problems) by viewing people's images online that have similar circumstances as my own. It temporarily relieves the sadness I feel knowing that I'm not alone, but again, it's a very short lived comfort. Anyway, the reason I mention viewing other's images is because I came across a person named Sonny Moore. He goes by the name of Skrillex. He's a well known D.J., according to what I read, and I noticed his skin is similar to mine, and it felt good knowing that someone with skin like my own could become hugely successful. But I noticed some of the comments that have been left by his fans, and I guess, it's my fault because I was hunting for these negative remarks because I knew that there had to be some negativity about his appearance, and lo and behold, I found some. They're of course the typical negative remarks, but what really grabbed my attention was the compete ignorance. How ignorant does a person have to be when they confuse acne scarring with cancer? I'm not trying to say that I'm removed from ignorance, but to me, the comments about Skrillex having cancer due to his scarring or is a heavy drug user and his scarring is the effect of it, is completely absurd. It makes me wonder what people think when they have to interact with me. Now I understand why people think I don't take showers, complete ignorance, but I also understand that a person has to experience something in order to completely comprehend the affects. I just needed to vent, thank you for listening.

Those comments were probably written by insecure, misinformed, punk kids. I wouldn't think any more of it.

As Lucas said, one of the biggest and most frustrating misconceptions is that your skin has acne because it's "dirty". My own family, one of which used to have acne, thought that I have acne due to my skin being "dirty".

It occurs because of clogging the skin, which increases sebum, and the sebum has fatty acids in it which P acne feeds off of. It's more complicated than that, but educating people helps get rid of misinformation.

I never realized that Skrillex had any scarring O_O I don't really listen to his music, but I always thought he was kind of attractive (I like long haired guys...lol) Anyway, I saw what you meant. I looked at one of his videos on YouTube and saw people saying crap like "stop smoking", but then I also saw many people defending him, explaining what the scars were from, and saying he is perfect. So not everyone is horrible at least. I then read that his haircut, that so many people copied, was a result of him trying to be more confident in his skin and shaving off a portion of his hair so that he couldn't hide behind it any more. I kind of like him more than I did now :P

Anyway, I think most people know what acne scars are and what they look like. It seems like it is probably mostly kids that are ignorant and don't realize that scars like that are caused by acne. There will always be ignorant people. Whether it is about skin or something else. It can be hard to just try not to care what people think, but unless we want to explain to every person we see why our skin is the way it is, there will be people judging us. Personally, I am more concerned about accepting myself, than I am other people accepting me. If I could get over that fact that I have bad skin, it wouldn't even matter to me any more. To Hell with what other people think.

You will find comments on youtube about EVERYthing. There will be comments about people's skin, sure...but there will be the same amount of comments on people's weight (too fat, too skinny), hair, teeth, nose, eyes, voice, speech, actions, movements, gestures.

The internet will pick on anything and everything that a person is -- we just tend to notice the comments on skin because it applies to us. It's ignorant, yes, but that's just how people are. Sure, the person commenting and posting those remarks may have better skin than you or I, but they may have a worse body, or dreadful teeth, or have an annoying voice, etc... :) Everyone's flawed.

Yeah, being informed and educated on something is key. I totally agree.

I saw how people were defending him too, and that gave me hope. The reason behind his haircut kind of inspired me in a way, and to think that other celebrities and fans want to mimic his hairstyle too. It's awesome, and I'm also trying to accept myself. It's just difficult sometimes. So many thoughts that I don't know how to control.

This is true. The comments are really harsh, and I guess it doesn't help when I relate to the person that is receiving the comments, but you're right. Every single person has their flaws and some can be concealed better than others.

Thanks for the feedback.

I don't think it's just people who have never had it. I was having a really good mood day yesterday when a woman walked right up to me at the gym ... A busy gym.. & said "don't worry I used to have acne too. It goes away .. although I was young an it wasn't really a severe as yours" I cried and literally ran out of the place.! Finding it tough to get motivated for today now I just want to hide!

That's harsh, but it seems to be a sticky situation. Hopefully, and I'm sure, the person didn't mean harm and just wanted to give you encouragement and hope, but it's very tricky on how to approach the situation. The person should have took a moment and remembered how sensitive the topic is before approaching you, sorry you had to experience it. But you make a good point, you would think a person that has experienced something would understand, but I guess it just depends on the individual.

There's always someone who has it worse than you, such as if you google severe acne and look at the pictures. That's not the point though, since that would implylooking down on people with worse acne. I'm just saying that because you aren't the only one who has it. Millions do, and they are all goingthrough the same thing. The point is to forget about what others think and keeppersisting until you found something that gets rid ofyouracne.
