Many people can live with body acne, since you can always cover it with clothes, but what really destroys people's self esteem and self image is facial acne, this is because your face is always exposed, and it represents everything about you, whether we like it or not, we live in a society were looks are extremely important, especially facial looks.
You are constantly judged by your looks, mainly your face, every single day. Your face is your main identity. We human place a huge value on the face, is the first thing we look at.
Having facial acne is so embarrassing and crushing because what it shows to the whole world, is that you have bad genetics.
When you see a person with facial acne, you don't think its their fault, everyone knows it just happened and its something they cannot control, like who would choose to have acne, in other words, is genetic, caused by factors outside of your power, your acne was not caused by your own actions. or bad decisions.
If you think about it, facial acne is just a cosmetic problem, you will not die from it, and it will not cause any health problems.
The reason why you are ashamed is because you are afraid of being judged negatively, to be considered less of, as in having bag genetics, since you and everyone else, know acne is not caused your own actions, but simply genetics/hormones.
This is why society hates on fat people, because in most cases is caused by bad decisions, it is the person's fault, but they usually tend to have more compassion for those with facial acne, you are not criticized since it was not your fault, but unfortunately both groups are quite often ridiculed by immature people
Let me add on...
We are in a generation where education and how smart you are doesn't matter. We live in a pixalated generation.
This generation is all about Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, etc. It doesn't matter how smart you are. It matters how good your selfies are, what you wear to school, how many followers you have. All of these easily obtained with having a gorgeous face with flawless skin. Our world is virtual now, and us acne sufferers cannot compete with these gorgeous looking people. We constantly compare ourselves to other people, and by doing that we become ashamed of ourselves.
Back in... 1970's, acne existed. But people back then were no where as ashamed to have acne as we do now.
This is why I think it's SO important for us to remind each other that SO WHAT if we have bumps on our face? We can't help it, we are trying to heal it, and it doesn't make us any less attractive just because our faces don't cooperate with what we want. Everything in this world is filtered or photoshopped anyway. Acne is normal.
Yes! There are people who say things like "wash your face more" or "stop eating chocolates". On a related note, I just saw this video today by a YouTuber with acne who does make-up tutorials and I had tears in my eyes. Something I could relate to so much. Really shows how with social media today, the psychological effects of having acne have become so much more complex. =/

This is amazing - absolutely amazing, brought tears to my eyes as well. It's so unbelievably difficult for most people to understand how painful this disease can be. Thank you for posting!
Yes sadly we live in a world where looks is everything and we have to remind ourselves how everyone photoshops everything and the pictures they post online vs how they look in person is not the same thats how self obsessed our society has become. It doesn't even matter if you don't have acne people still are not happy with themselves and photo shop their pictures on social media. Its really hard because when you meet people and interact the first thing you see is their face. I can say though I do have acne on my back. Accutane "cured" if for many years, but it has come back with a vegance and I am actually super insecure about it as I live in a hot area where I wear tank tops all the time and always worried people can see it and definitely don't want to wear a bathing suit because I don't want people to see my back. We live in such a different world today like one commenter said about 70's. People had acne back then but people didn't care the focus of life was not only on looks. I mean there is the term now "instagram models" lol Some girls aspire to be that to get a ton of followers based on the photos they post which are all photoshopped.

Are you sure about that? I don't see a difference between how I am treated now and 20 years ago. Maybe it was less visible.

Very powerful and moving video!
Most people don't understand what it's like. They don't think it's a big deal. I remember this one episode of this show I can't find where they did this experiment doing a makeover on a good looking person to look like their ugly family member. They then had to walk through a mall. Many of them broke down crying and couldn't finish.
Many of them initially thought it wasn't a big deal, and that their family member should stop whining and complaining about it for attention.
