Ok so please can someone reply. I'm 17 and am graduating in less than 5 months. Acne has RUINED my life. I have horrible

Acne, like I mean absolute shit, pizza faced, ugly, disgusting acne EVERYWHERE. I mean dear god, it's on my neck, my back, my face, my hairline.

I'm cursed. I have been on epiduo for about a month and it had dried the shit out of my face. I still have acne or red sports everywhere. It's not better at all. My doctor want to put me on tetracycline but I don't want that bullshit in my system. He said if my acne doesn't clear up in a month he will put me on accutane. I don't want to go on that shit. I play sports a lot, and workout. So ya I'm gonna sweat. Yea I try to take a shower or wash up if I can. I'm pissed right off and am ready to run away because I hate it. Im an attractive guy, let's say I had clear skin, I would be like a 7.5 out of 10. And 5 is an average person and 10 is a model. And with my body working out I'm pretty jacked. I weigh 170...except it's useless because of my acne. I would go to the beach and have red spots all over so what the hell. I want to get bigger in hope that when my acne is gone I will have a smokin body and then I can be confident again and have my normal life again. If my acne doesn't clear up i will refuse to go on accutane but instead Would rather eat healthy and that's it (yes if you eat healthy it will go away) it's almost impossible for me to do that though because I have a high metabolism and I wanna be jacked so I have to eat whatever.

If I ate healthy I would never gain weight and it's expensive and my parents wouldn't buy me what I needed. Like

Honestly why does god not just cure me, he "loves" me so much but yet won't even let me be who I really am. Fuck the world. I used to be soooo social and always be with girls and I would be dating someone by now if I had no acne. God please somebody help. I already know what the comments will be. "Just wait it out! You can do it" or "go on accutane it will work" ugh my life is shit. Acne is a disease and the side effects are depression, loss of confidence, and unattractive ness :'(

(*Topic moved to emotional / psychological effects forum)

Acne can be incredibly hard to cope with because it can be so shattering emotionally and to so many aspects of life. I think everyone around here will be able to relate in one way or another - so you're definitely not alone in how you're feeling

I've never used epiduo but you should give it a bit longer before deciding it's not working for you. It seems majority of acne treatments are suggested to be used for at least 3 months to see how they work for you / to give them a good chance of working. If after 3 months of using it and you decide it isn't working for you, you can still go back to your doctor to discuss what you're next options are.

You don't have to take accutane or antibiotics if you don't want to. Doctors can't make you take anything but it's still worthwhile to hear their advice / opinions most of the time. You can still look into natural or diet approaches if you'd rather do that too.

And there are ways that you could still gain weight while doing it in a healthy way / while eating healthy - and I'm sure there are 'affordable' approaches to it too. maybe take a look at the diet / hollistic forum here as well.

And just because someone has acne doesn't mean they're automatically unattractive (even though to us it can really feel like there's no way someone would see us as attractive). I've met guys who are still very attractive despite having really severe acne. So don't dismiss the possibility of having someone find you attractive or the possibility of dating just because you have acne. Things like confidence go a long way.

Anyway... again, - you're not along in how you're feeling. Hang in therecomfort.gif

You're into sports, so I understand why you don't want Accutane, but why not try it out? Take it for a month or two and if you're noticing having any negative effects just stop.

That's assuming you're allowed to stop after starting, haven't done much research on Accutane.

The working out part my be contributing to your acne break outs, teens at your age are still growing therefore their hormone levels are not at the stable level of an adult. Add in the fact that you are working out, building muscle, and toning your body (great job on it wish i had the motivation to), but this could be a driving force being your acne related to testosterone levels and glucose intolerance. I do not happen to know the exact science on this and how the body regulates it[testosterone], but i will say that increased levels lead to acne and increased body hair.

The reason i say this is from something i read about a growing trend in working out. Its classified as an addiction under certain circumstances, but more importantly are the signs. They describe that excessive working out leads to acne breakouts specifically on the chest and back area. If this is you then its something to consider.

Besides great hygiene practices of washing your hands before touching your face or just in general, eating noninflammatory foods, and foods that don't spike your blood sugar- these together might help. For the initial battle and winning the current breakout you have antibiotics might help while giving your body time to rest and build back its defenses i.e better fight the bacteria that cause acne. If you are down, stressed, ill, or just experiencing a huge breakout then your body cannot fight back effectively. I would take the antibiotics as prescribed and see what happens. Accutane is a big step and i wonder if it is the right one considering the information i just typed. It may or may not help. I don't know your whole situation.

Wow perhaps you should try something else like medicine. You sound too negative and I get that but my god, you're like Holden from The Catcher in The Rye. Try and see what you are lucky to have in life. I'm sure many people would trade what you have for what they've got.

Hi, trust me I know how exactly it feels to be you right now. I used to be in the same situation. I would not go out of the house for days for the way my face looked and hated that gross image everytime i looked at the mirror. I was depressed, and not feeling like doing anything. I refused to go to class, and back then I was still in college.

Honestly, I would really recommend you to use Dan's products--cleanser, treatment and moisturizer (also jojoba oil is great in keeping the side effects of benzol peroxide) and keep one thing absolutely in mind: your acne is only temporary. Stick to the regimen out for a month, and you will get your life back, social life and self-esteem. Forget about how other people think of you or their reaction seeing your current state of acne. Once your acne cleared up, you will know those people dont even matter that much. However, do keep the side effects in mind--peeling, purging and redness, irritation. However, give it a month, and your skin will be normal again, and you can go out and party all night long without worring about pimples any more. Sincerely, Feebie.
