Frustrated With My Mom's Advice

No matter how much I talk to my mom about all the research I've done on acne and hormones, she keeps repeating the same things over and over again, like it completely goes over her head. She keeps saying I have to drink more milk, which is actually bad for acne prone skin, she keeps saying brightening products are just for "old people" and not for red marks. That lasers are also just for "old people" when she knows absolutely nothing about what exactly i'm talking about. That I need to fix my diet (which is true, however, my acne has always been hormonal and she can't seem to be able to acknowledge that). She keeps arguing with me about things she knows nothing about, while I on the other hand have done a tremendous amount of research on, and I can't help but feel infuriated whenever she gives me advice. Unfortunately, she's the only person I have to talk to. Sigh.

Diet actually can influence hormonal acne. I've got hormonal acne and what I eat makes a HUGE difference in how my skin looks.

I feel ya, just got back from the parents house and they keep asking me if I'm washing my face enough or using things like proactiv. It's like wtf guys, cant you see after seven years of battling this it goes a little deeper than topicals and washing my face. I do extensive research everyday on the acne subject and try to figure out a way to combat it. From what I have been noticing, the common person that hasn't had to do deal with acne day in and day out for years really still thinks that all acne is caused because your not washing your face properly or that proactiv will clear you up because it worked for that adam levine guy. They also say browisng through this site as much as I do is unhealthy, which I agree with to a certain degree. I guess I would rather spend my time on here where I know people like me are working on cures than sit around all day and do other unimportant things.

And I agree diet so help A LOT. Was fairly clear so when Christmas came around I pigged out and have not been able to get a firm grip on my healthy diet since. I am now starting to see if i don't change it soon im going to be in trouble, have a cyst brewing on the outer edges of my cheek close to my mustache area and a few small whiteheads halfway on my lips and the other half on the skin above. I was starting to think my diet didnt have anyting to do with my acne lately but now its pretty evident that it is a huge contributor. The only thing is when im really really into the healthy eating I still breakout so the food isnt the cause directly, but the food is influencing whatever is causing my spots. I did just start taking antibiotics though so I could be that, regardless shitty diet + antibiotics just cant be good man.

Well all I know is my diet never affected my acne. I'm sure it can be a great contributor to some, but not me.

Well she has her views and is sticking to them. Because she didn't have the internet back then and she probably didn't suffer as bad she probably will not believe you no offense. Her personal experiences tell her otherwise which in this day and age from what you state she says, is wrong. But do not beat it into her, she just doesnt understand how important it is to you and how passionate you are about helping yourself. She probably doesnt see this or views your motivation differently.

I think you need to just keep trying and possibly talk to someone else who will listen and not tell you the wrong things. Yes milk from a cow is bad for most acne suffers i need not list the reasons.
