  1. I started developing severe cystic acne when I was 20. They were huge red cysts with three heads each that would grow on both cheeks (almost symmetrically), and wouldn't stop being inflamed for two weeks at a time. It was ugly and really painful, and they left marks that would not go away for atleast three months and scars that are still on my cheeks. As I went from acne-free to covered in horrible red acne and scars on my face I became depressed and lost five kgs. I also started to *lose m
  2. Hello, to my fellow victims of this terrible plague called acne. I’m not new to acne.org as I have stumbled across these forums on many occasions in the past, but this will be my first ever post. I am a 22 year old guy who suffers from moderate to severe acne specifically and almost exclusively on the chin. Picture someone drawing a triangle from the corners of your mouth down to the sides of your chin. I do occasionally get 1 or 2 above my mouth as well (maybe once or twice a month) but they he
  3. Hello i am wondering if anyone has gotten acne since starting thyroid medications?? I started armour thyroid 30mg august 6th and brokeout a week later then it went away (also on minocycline at the time) then i got pregnant at end of august and the acne continued to get worse... then when i was 12 weeks pregnant they increased my dosage to 45mg and the acne got put of control and terrible cystic nodules and oily... then the acne got a little better when lowering my dosage again but still very muc
  4. Hello all! I feel like such a fair weather friend here. I've been a member for a long time, but I really only visit when I'm having a horrible time with my adult acne. Now is one of those times. It's not that I'm not grateful for this very helpful website...it's just that I'm a mom, a wife, a college student, and I work! Whew! Right now, I don't feel like leaving the house, my acne is so bad. My latest acne remission was my being on Epiduo for about a year. When the Epiduo stopped
  5. (Ugh, second time writing this out as I refreshed the page by accident. Sorry this is LONG!) Female, 26 Medications I take YAZ - for about 3 years now Vit D3 Spironolactone (100 mg 50am/50pm) I'm on day 5, with little change. A quick summary of what has happened: The beginning of this year I started breaking out badly in cystic spots along the jawline. previously I had been perfectly clear on YAZ and topicals. (Trentinoin .025%). I just attributed the breakout to stress a
  6. I'm trying to avoid spironolactone due to IBS issues and the fact that it definitely made me feel off. I may end up going on it but I'm still trying to cure my hormonal acne through diet and natural means without going on medications. I'm also starting to suffer from hot flashes so I feel like I'm sweating or cooking from the inside frequently... But apart from the right side of my face (cheek and chin) being covered in hard small cystic bumps that are painful (my forehead and left cheek are 9
  7. Hello I am posting about some topics which may or may not be relevant to adult acne, but i want to see if other people have any similar symptoms or thoughts. The topics covered are: acne, thyroid and adrenal hormone issues, over active immune system and poor fertility. My wife is 34 and has only had acne since her 20's when work started. This is obviously a stress connected issue and we have also found out she has a slight under active thyroid issue as well. To boost her adrenal
  8. Tests you can do yourself, things you should monitor yourself, what/how to interpret/use info from tests, etc. Because you need to take charge of your own health care. And always get and keep copies of anything your doctor has done. First of all, you can get quite a few things on Amazon. And some things at your drugstore. You can check your blood pressure at drugstores. And you should be monitoring your blood pressure. Home tests: I got this one in a newsletter today: www.canaryclub.org/h
  9. I discovered I have Hashimoto's, which makes your TSH and T4/T3 ratio out of whack. Low T3, interestingly enough, has been linked to inflammation and cystic acne...which I've suffered from. My doctor said to try Synthroid even though I asked for Armor, saying it's the better of the two [doubtful!] and I'm worried because many people say it can cause hormonal or abnormal bouts of ACNE. I've been on Accutane for 4.5 months now and after a severe breakout, I'm 90% clear, so I'm really, really wo
  10. I've been off Accutane for about two weeks. I know when they take your blood, they check a few different things, but I'm not sure if they check your thyroid. Does anyone know? I just looked up all the symptoms of having a low thyroid problem, and I pretty much have all of them. I know if they checked it, they would've told me if mine was low, so I shouldn't even worry about it. If they don't check it, though, I should probably go to the doctor.
  11. http://www.medicaljournals.se/acta/content/?doi=10.2340/00015555-1013&html=1 Another reason to not take Accutane- it screws up your hormone levels and causes problems later. This was just a 3 month study too. Most people use Accutane longer.
  12. Hi everyone, I could really use your help... I've suffered from hormonal acne off and on for about 8 years now. The last 18 months constantly. I've tried everything I can think of by now and would love your opinions on what else I could try. I'd prefer keeping it fairly natural and avoid prescription medications though. Here's a brief hormonal history that might illustrate the problem: Because of my many problems with the pill, I've been totally off it for 18 months now. I've been on about
  13. I am 25 years old and I have been trying to figure out my acne / breakouts cause for almost 2 years now, I give up because I cannot find the exact cause, I would really appreciate any ideas, connections, tips... Here are some details that may help you help me: My symptoms appears within 24hours or less after I eat certain foods, there are 2 main symptoms that bother me, one is red signs that appear on the skin and they form into whiteheads slowly and eventually come to the surface within
  14. Hello! I haven't been on here in quite a while. I first posted on here about two years ago after getting off Ortho Tri Cyclen which caused an extremely bad breakout after I discontinued it. For the most part before birth control, (which I was only on for a year and a half), I had mild but manageable and controllable acne. After birth control, which I got off due to weight gain, horrible constant migraines that caused vomiting, and just overall not feeling like myself, I had a terrible initial br
  15. I have very bad acne mainly on my forehead and it has been this way since I was about 11 years old (I'm 16). I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism when I was 7 and from that point on I developed a few pimples every now and then. Then when I was 14 I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease as well and my acne has gotten worse. I eat a healthy gluten free and dairy free diet, get enough sleep, drink lots of water, and exercise regularly so the only thing I can guess it is caused by is the thyroid pro
  16. Hello, I have been struggeling and trying to figure out the causes of my breakouts / unclear skin for years now... Lately, I have tried to go on different diets like, dairy free, gluten free, low carbs, and I verified that diet connects directly to my issue because every time I start eating standart soups, vegetables and salmon my skin clears up totally.. These are the latest foods that caused bad breakouts on my skin around 12h+/- after eating them, please if anyone can see a connec
  17. I'm a 46-yr old female hypothyroid patient struggling with an acne vulgaris/rosacea combo. The acne started as soon as I started T3 (Cytomel) to deal with a thyroid metabolism dysfunction and has remained fairly consistent for 5 months while I increased my T3 dose to a level sufficient for thyroid health. I had problems uploading an acne photo, so here's a link to a screenshot of it http://screencast.com/t/CFQ85QJj8 . My acne is characterized by reddish facial skin, red spots, as well a
