  1. Just checking back in. Almost 100% of the bad breakout from the meds and my hormones on my jawline and chin has resolved itself within the last 3 days which is great. I'm still super bummed out about the primer/makeup worsening my skin, though. Does anyone have any recommendations who is reading this? I think the cetearyl alcohol in the primer could have triggered me, too. The sunburn got way worse by Monday morning...rock lobster bad. Lol. My entire face has basically been peeling since Mond
  2. Pimple update: I've had two other small pimples that have come and gone - one by my hairline on my forehead and one on my jawline. Then, two days ago I started getting a pyodermic faciale big cyst. A BIG ONE. Dark read and throbbing. It is smaller today and still closed because I no longer pick at my face. Ever. Acanya: I'm still putting Acanya on pimples when they surface. I'll do this until my skin becomes too flakey. I think it helps them go away quickly. Accutane Side Affects: Sun-se
  3. Hi everyone! I am currently on my 5th week of the Acne.org Regimen. I use water to cleanse my face, then use a 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide and moisturize with 2-3 pumps of Cerave Moisturizing Lotion+Jojoba Oil. My face is starting to really clear up now, but I was outside yesterday and got sunburned. I applied the Regimen as usual last night and this morning but was wondering if this is ok since I am sunburned, or if I should take a day or two off from BP. Thanks for your help!
  4. Okay so I might sound like a douche with this, but bear with me because I know there have to be others like this. So naturally I'm very good looking (again not trying to be a tool) but i've suffered with acne and it almost makes it worse because when I look in the mirror and know that I could be good looking again if I could just clear up the acne (btw I'm an 18 yr old male freshman in college). I feel unlucky because I walk around college and think, "Great, no one in college has acne, it's a hi
  5. As many of us do venture out into the sun in these hot summer months, the use of the regimen products can severely burn and damaged our skin; especially if you are active and tend to absorb the sun's harsh rays for 8 hours or more each day. Is any one aware of any helpful sunscreens that: -Have an SPF 15+ -Non-comedogenic -Non-greasy
  6. Does this medication cause increased sensitivity to the sun and/or prevent one from tanning?
  7. Do Topical Retinoids Increase Sensitivity to the Sun?

Recommendations for Retinoids and Sun Exposure Retinoids are a class of topical prescription medications that are proven to be somewhat effective in the treatment of acne. They work to clear acne by clearing clogged pores and reducing inflammation. The three approved retinoids used for the treatment of acne are: Tretinoin Tazarotene Adapalene [0.1% strength is now available over-the-counter] All three of these retinoids have caution and warning sections regarding sun exposure printed on their package inserts. These warnings state that...
  8. Hi there, I'm a 24 year old girl who has had persistent mild/moderate acne for around 12 years. I have about 3-10 active papules and pustules on my face at any given time, many large blackheads on my nose, and will occasionallly get deep, painful hormonal cysts around the time of the month. Most of my acne is concentrated around my chin/mouth and sometimes on my cheeks. It's also on my shoulders and a little on my back. The thing is, this is actually an improvement over my skin as a teenager,
  9. Well right now I'm using Epiduo along with ampicillin and its working great, but about a year and a half ago I was using Ziana gel and 6 months into the process I had seen only about 40% of my acne clear up. Although I was advised to stay out sun, I ignored this and began tanning in the highest level tanning bed for summertime. Miraculously, my skin cleared up almost 100% after just two weeks of consistent tanning! I knew this was bad for my skin so I stopped but only 3 weeks after I did I broke
  10. Day 13 today and the dry lips properly kicked in this morning. They aren't just dry they sting too. So I guess the full effect of that took 2 weeks really. My nose is peeling all the way up now and it looks silly, make up can't cover the dryness! My back pain is here today but is worse the more I exert myself so I'm going to take things easy and see if it improves with rest. I was out in the bright sun this morning early for half and hour walking the kids to school, my face is now red q
  11. The spiro helped reduce the inflammation and irritation from a lot of the makeup breakout overnight. I still have active spots but at least it gets better faster than it did. I have another tiny papule like bump on my left cheek that was super tiny but the cosmetics made it big. Hoping that Spiro will reduce that before it leaves nasty PIH behind. Unfortunately I got a mild sunburn on my face and neck after falling asleep outside. Be warned that apparently Spiro makes you more likely to burn,
  12. Hi! I am a 14 year old girl and I've had pretty moderate acne for about a year now. I've been to a few dermatologists and after trying a few treatments, I decided to go pretty gentle and natural for treatment since I have extremely sensitive skin. Now I don't really get whiteheads anymore, except for a few around my period. I've had small, flat, red marks covering my cheeks for a few months now (Not really anything in my T-Zone). They have their good days and bad days, but they are a pain and th
  13. Hi everyone, First time posting here about a concern I had and if I can get any feedback that would be great! Have been using epiduo and taking the solodyn pills for about a week now. The results were amazing my skin was clearing up in a few days of taking it but me being a irrational forgot to put on sunscreen... I never go outside but the day I chose to go outside I forget sunscreen and as many of you probably know acne medication + sunlight don't go hand in hand. Long story short my left chee
  14. I have been on Dan's regimen for about five weeks now. Everything seemed normal at first and although there was extremely bothersome peeling and flakiness (and there is still a lot now), I've managed to control it using Cetaphil's Moisturizing Lotion combined with Aveeno Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer with SPF 30 during the day, and Cetaphil's Lotion by itself at night. I did use up an entire 8 oz. bottle of Dan's moisturizer for the first three weeks and although it is very moist
  15. I've been using Acne.org products for two weeks now. A few days ago I noticed something strange. The side areas between my forehead and my cheeks (I believe they are called temples) and the area around my mouth look like I went to a solarium for a whole day without using sunscreen - red, itchy and flaky. I thought that was normal since I read on this site that my skin needed to get used to the products, but then I saw that my skin was also hardening and even worse - it was getting much darker th
  16. My son is 6 weeks into Accutane. He had to do some community service stuff for scouts today and I wanted to dose him up with sunscreen first. The stuff I had said not to put it on skin that was damaged. My son has a lot of open sores on his face right now and I can't even imagine how much it would have stung to put on the sunscreen. Anyway, he was outside for about two hours and we had to bring him home. He sort of swelled up and got a big of a burn on his arms. He is supposed to be going
  17. I am 17 and I have dealt with acne ever since 6th grade. It got so bad in 8th grade that I started using Accutane, which cleared it all up within 6 months. Now I am a junior and my acne has been an issue for the past year or so. I take cephalxin daily and I use retin-a every night as well. My acne is not very bad, (maybe a few new small pimples once every one to two weeks) but the real issue is my scarring. The pimples I get usually leave scars that can stay for many weeks at a time. Now to my m
  18. Hi, so I'm on my 17th day (going into week 3) of the acne.org regimen and I am freaking out!!!! The first week I was fine, my schedule in the morning was cleanse, bp (half of the first line of my finger), and moisturizer. I did the same thing at night, but WITHOUT the bp. AFTER week 1, I increased my bp dosage. my schedule in the morning was cleanse, bp (from tip of my finger to the first line), and moisturize. I also did the same thing at night. Then I started realizing my face was getting dry
  19. Does the Sun Burn/Tan Your Lips, and Do You Need to Protect Them?

The skin on the lips, just like the skin on the rest of the body, serves as a protective barrier to the tissues underneath. However, the skin on the lips has some major differences that make the lips: More prone to sunburn Less prone to suntan More prone to dryness Little to No Melanin - More Prone to Sunburn, Less Prone to Suntan Melanin is a pigment in the skin that gives skin its color and protects the skin from...
  20. This is when my lips began to peel Hi! Im on a week and a day of accutane (generic brand)... and the first layer of my lips just peeled off ! Like completely... my lips are BLOOD BRIGHT RED and swollen... I feel like this is even worse than super dry chapped lips? I have tried a million chapsticks Dr dans.. everything. My derm even prescribed me 2% cortisone.. but I think he thought my lips were dry because they aren’t flaky or peeling anymore they are just super uncomfortable and it’s h
  21. I've been lurking on the forums for a while and finally decided to make an account because I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to. First here's a little background on my skin: Started breaking out when I was 17 (I'm 19 now). Close to a year ago I went to a dermatologist, and was put on bp, clindamyicin (sp?), and tretinoin .025. The combo got me almost 100% clear in 6 months, but was still irritating my skin, so we switched my regimen to differin (.1%) and minocycline

  23. Does the Sun Help or Hurt Acne?

The Sun's Effect on Acne Is Still an Open Question There is limited and conflicting scientific evidence to support the use of sunlight in treating acne. In fact, partly due to the fact that it is difficult to perform studies on sun exposure, there are no reliable studies that look directly at the effect of sunlight on acne. For this reason, to get an approximate answer to the question of whether the sun helps or hurts acne...
  24. Does Wearing a Baseball Hat Cause Acne?

Anything that rubs against or puts pressure on the skin will lead to physical irritation, and physical irritation can lead to acne. This is such a well-known problem that dermatologists have given acne that forms from physical irritation a name of its own: acne mechanica.1 Since baseball hats rub against the skin and put pressure on the skin, there is really no way of avoiding physically irritating your skin when you wear one. But this does not...
