I need your help....

My immune system is turning on me...... This all started about a month ago. I got a UTI, tried really hard to treat it with cranberry juice (sometimes this does work). When I got that all too familiar pain in my back and on my side, and I realized I had a fever I went to the doctor and got a precription for an antibiotic. I'm allergic to a few different classes of them so I'm always worried something bad will happen when I take one. Well this was no exception.... After taking Agumentin (a
2. hi, i came off roaccutane at the end of september. id developed a small patch of eczema on my eyelid, and i was given hydrocortizone to get rid of it. this didnt clear it up however, and it spread to my lower eyelid and a small patch below my mouth. i was then given eumovate (a stronger steroid), but it persisted and spread around my mouth/nostrils and to my other eyelid. i went back to my dermatologist on tuesday and they said that apparently the steroids they'd given me to clear it up had ac

This doesn't make sense.

I know a few guys who do tons of steroids year round and never get acne. If it is hormonal, then why don't all the extra androgens in thier system cause them to break out? I've used things like saw palmetto extract and finasteride to help combat dht and help my acne, but they didn't work at all. I don't believe the excessive androgens is the cause of acne. Maybe it's our bodies' ability to process hormones that can make it worse? What do you guys think? I don't believe hormones themselves ar

Dry Skin/Breakout

Hey everyone, I recently had a severe case of poison ivy (eyes swollen, face entirely covered) and I was put on a steroid called prednisone. I read that a side effect was acne..great..well I took it and about the 10th day of my 14 days I seemed to have little tiny pimples that seemed to right away have a little tiny whitehead, they appeared EVERYWHERE. Chin, nose, forehead, cheeks, beside nose, above mouth. They are scattered and in groups, I've never had this many before and on top of that my f
5. Age 42. Have been seeing a derm for the past year, trying to get my skin under control, rather than give up on it. She started me out on sodium sulfacetamide wipes and Solodyn. Solodyn cleared me up around 90%. My neck was starting to feel smooth instead of lumpy, which was so nice! Solodyn made me itch really badly. I lasted 4 months on it, and then couldn't take it any longer. Derm put me on Ziana (retin A). My skin couldn't tolerate it. She wanted me to spot treat, not use it all over as p
6. Basically the last six months of my life have basically driven me crazy. I had severe acne from around the age of 10 but finally managed to get rid of it by July 2009, thanks to a treatment of accutane. And that's where i'd assume the story would have ended. It was my final year of high school and I no longer lacked the confidence which I lacked for years. But then in July of last year after having what was my best year of my life to date. Fate seemed to turn on me. I was ill for about 3 weeks a
7.
I just finished my Accutane yesterday, and I just had some fatty food [cheese, butter] and it started itchiness on my cheek and nose that starts 5 min after and persists for about an after the food . I used to have similar experiences [before accutane] that would result in cystic bad severe acne.

Accutane: 80mg for 5 months

it was okay while I was on accutane

i just applied little bit of steroid cream over it, its not
8. I'm a 50 year old male, but suffered from cystic acne during my high school years (1974-1977) and college (graduated 1981). In 1982 I found out about the new drug called Accutane. I insisted that my dermatologist prescribe it. Previously, I had been prescribed megadoses of Tetracycline, Minocin, retin-A, sulfur solutions, benzoyl peroxide solutions and even prednisone (steroid for swelling). I had injections to reduce the size of the cysts and even had ultraviolet light treatment (pre-blue lig
9. Just like the title says. I will fast for 22 hrs and eat for 2 hrs every day and also try to abstain from jerking off but will not turn down sex if i have the opportunity. My acne is fairly mild right now but i've had it for a long time and i really just want it to be gone. I will be avoiding milk and will also try to keep my carbs low. I just got off a 10 day cycle of testosterone propionate and am now taking 20 mg of nolvadex for another 11 days to restart my HPTA. I will not be doing any m
10. I have battled with intermittent acne for much of my teen and young adult years, and have finally found a regimen that keeps me clear (Alpha Hydroxy Acid + Apple Cider Vinegar). However, my face and back are extremely oily, a problem that is exacerbated by the fact I have used anabolic steroids in the past. Though I am off cycle and have let my body return to "normal" (Whatever constitutes normalcy ), the excess oil remains. I have tried a plethora of OTC treatments, coupled with some presc
11. Hello acne.org users! I was a fifteen year old girl when I went on accutane, and I thought I would just let people know the terrible effects accutane had on my eyes. I had had severe acne, and went on accutane after trying several topicals and anti biotics. Accutane worked wonders on my skin. I had a five month course and it totally cleared my skin. I've been off accutane for ten months and my skin is still mostly clear. Anyways, My eyes were so insanely dry while I was on accutane. They were b
12. My history: 1.) Acne started @ 13. Currently 28 2.) Been on 3 cycles of Accutane @ 6months each - acne goes away during regimine but returns a few months after. 3.) Tried multiple sessions of Photodynamic Therapy - acne is burned off, but it doesn't last. 4.) Have tried Dan's regimine My findings: 1.) Acne prone. A daily regimine and vigillant habits will prevent new acne flares. No "quick fixes. 2.) Dan's regimine wasn't enough for my face. Didn't do enough to prevent. Caused issues: a
13. I've been seeing this derm for about a year now to treat my keloids. I have something like 30 of them, mostly on the chest, some on my shoulders. We've done about 5 steroid injection sessions and 5 laser sessions throughout the last year. The lasers haven't done jack shit. No redness improvement what-so-ever. On top of that, the flattened scars appear to be re-raising. As a result, the derm said that's it, there's nothing that can be done. No other treatments exist. No more laser since the t

Non-food allergies

We all know that food allergies can aggravate acne, but what about the other allergies? I'm allergic to something but I don't know what that is. I just sneezed over 10 times when I opened the window + I get a runny nose or nasal congestion many times everyday (year-around) and I have itchy eyes. Since allergies cause inflammation in the body, they could possibly cause/aggravate acne as well? I've tried nasal steroids but they made me break our a lot around my mouth (steroids mess with hormon
15. I was supposed to go out w/ someone tonight but I developed a HUUUGE cyst on my nose. I took a very high dose of e-mycin and sulfur lotion and topical steroid and NSAID gel... to no avail. So I called her and made up some dumb excuse why I was not able to go out. I think the cyst is from the accutane IB. Even after 15+ years, I'm still in acne prison. What excuse do you guys use when you have to suddenly cancel a social event due to acne? let's hear your creative ones

Always listen to your doctors first and random internet strangers last. This is a story meant to thrill as well as inform; please enjoy the show. About 2 or 3 years ago, I had acne. It was mild-moderate acne, with maybe a few pimples a day. It did not respond to any over-the-counter treatments or clea

Has anyone ever taken....

Clindamycin phosphate lotion? I was given it by my derm in place of the steroid cream I was using for my scarring.... Anyone ever used it who can tell me how it worked?

I'm late for work right now but felt compelled to make a login name after years of reading this site. I'm 18 now and have had acne since i was 13. Back then it was different, I'd get cysts 2 or 3 at a time on my face along with bad back acne. sophmore and junior year my acne subsided and i decided to take accutane to polish the rest of it off. It's been a nightmare since. I have a question for helthoid because i think i have a similar problem as you. I don't know how the accutane would mak

My Story

Hello All, I've been reading through the message board a lot this last month and finally decided it was time to participate myself. I'm a 30 year old male who has been suffering from adult acne since my early 20's. I had great skin until my sophomore year of college when I just exploded with acne. I initially tried Proactiv which did not help and eventually saw a doctor who prescribed me Benzamycin. The Benzamycin worked wonders for me and I continued to use it for several years. Eventually I
20. I am on my "final" month of Accutane and i have been getting a few new pimples. I had a whitehead on my hairline; a variety of zits along my forehead that wouldn't go away - my doctor gave me some lipid steroid shots..or some kind of medicine, i am not sure what it was, and still that didn't work -- whatever it was, it was meant to decrease inflammation. i have a large pimple forming on my right side of my face...when i hold my cell phone it sort of hurt - so it is the painful kind, i also have
21. Hi, I was just wondering if any of you have been prescribed other medications with your accutane to help with the IB? I asked my derm about it before I got my first prescription and she just said they can give steroids and she wouldn't give me that, not that I want to take steroids!!! Is there nothing else that you can take to deal with the initial breakout? Thanks K X
22. Does anyone know the effects of cortisol and hyperpigmentation of the skin? Does too little cortisol or too much have an effect in how well your skin marks fade? I have a lot around my abdomen. I am on the low side of cortisol and other adrenal production. Can this situation be helped in anyway without the steroids?

Articles on milk

I know milk is terrible, so do you. I was wondering if you could post any articles you had on it, or even clinical studies (those would be the best) on it's effect on the skin, and acne. Or any ones in general, showing how bad it truely is. One reason being is to show people who just don't believe as well, and another reason being to just have a good collection of articles on dairy in this country especially. I like this one a lot http://www.formerfatguy.com/articles/dont-drink-milk.asp
24. If anyonw knows the answer to this question, could they please answer it. Every time I try to do a search on the internet it doesn't follow thru...it must be hung up or something. Also what does TCA stand for. as I see some people talk about TCA peels.. please advise. Thanks
25. Hey ladies and gents, I'm new to this forum as I just found out about this today. Just a forewarning, this is going to be a long post because i'm going to run through my medical/acne history, so if you guys can bare with me that would be awesome! I have a good amount of questions as well. Well to start off, i'm a male and 23 years old (going onto 24 next month). Thinking back to middle school and high school, my acne was never really severe, but I did have moderate acne up until freshman year
