    Week Four

Week four on Spiro/Retin-A! My intial breakout is finally coming to an end! The cysts I had are starting to heal and I haven't gotten any new ones since last week. I still have a lot of clogged pores and blackheads in my t-zone but they're starting to clear up as well. I have yet to notice a reduction in oil though. My skin is still very oily in my t-zone. For the side effects of spironolactone, I am not urinating as much as I did at the start, but still a bit more than usual. That's it for now
  2. Today was Day 20 on Spiro (75 mg), Benzoyl Peroxide face wash (PanOxyl 4%), and Atralin gel, aka topical retinoid (0.05%)! Overall, things are improving My face is doing so, so much better. The pink mark on my left cheek from that stubborn zit is fading and healing. There's a small pink mark on my right cheek that's fading. And there's a bit of a red mark healing on my lower chin/jaw from a pore that purged an acne seed yesterday. Right now, my complexion looks so much better! It's mor
  3. Hey everyone! So I'm doing pretty good right now (knock on wood. knock on wood. knock on wood). Summary of weeks 1,2, and almost week 3: Week 1 - Drying out. Skin shedding its top layer. Starting to get small bumps/ more zits. Week 2 - INITIAL BREAKOUT. Happened to forehead first, then in different sections of my face. Broke out on forehead, nose, chin, then right cheek, then left cheek, then chin again a bit, then right jawline, now left jawline a bit. Tons of small bumps, more zits, a
  4. To start off, I am going to try and start posting once a month at least, hopefully, more often than that. As for the update on my skin, it hasn't been the best few days. I think that is because I have run out of acidophilus that I pair with spiro, and my skin is not liking that. I forgot to call in the refill before the weekend. As a result of that, I have a few new spots on my cheek that are honestly really bothering me. I can't feel them, but my skin was looking good before this. It might also
  5. DAY 16 update. So the combination of YAZ and Spironolactone has resulted in my period being extended to the current 15th day. My menstrual cycle is usually painful, heavy, and lasts around 5 days. (So heavy that I have to go for iron infusions at the hospital.) Presently, my bleeding has ranged between light/medium. The combination of starting the birth control pill again (after a long while) along with spironolactone has resulted in my hormones going slightly unhinged. While my hormones are s
  6. So far, DAY 13 hasn't been great. I'm getting cystic acne in places I usually never have to worry about. For the past 2-3 days I've had a small/medium cysts growing on my forehead, hairline area and on my nose(!!it's big and red!!). Places I rarely have acne ffs! I think my hormones are trying to find middle ground (at least I hope) because YAZ has extended my period to 12 days. I will wait for my hormones to return from war. I've also started doing LED blue/red light therapy twice a week at

    1 month on spiro

So I can officially say that it has been a whole month of taking spironolactone. I've decided to keep my dose to 50 mg as I have noticed major improvements on my face - starting with forehead which was filled with cystic acne just over a month ago and now I have none. I still have a small number of breakouts on my cheeks and a couple on my jaw but it is not as worse as how it was before I started taking spiro. I am however left with a lot of scars and pigmentation which I know can be sorted out
  8. i recently stopped taking the Yasmin. It had never made an effect on my skin and was causing too many issues. I stress too much about possible side effects and I never wanted to take it in the first place I havent had any new spots in a week, and overall the past two werks ive actually been seeing a decrease in red inflamed pimples (still blackheads and zits under the surface that you cant really see) after increasing my dose to 100mg however Im now experiencing side effects that got so bad I
  9. Just checking back in. Almost 100% of the bad breakout from the meds and my hormones on my jawline and chin has resolved itself within the last 3 days which is great. I'm still super bummed out about the primer/makeup worsening my skin, though. Does anyone have any recommendations who is reading this? I think the cetearyl alcohol in the primer could have triggered me, too. The sunburn got way worse by Monday morning...rock lobster bad. Lol. My entire face has basically been peeling since Mond
  10. Today is my first full week of Spiro, 50mg/day with one 25mg supplement at 8:30 AM and another at 1 PM with lunch. I read here that dividing the doses with breakfast and lunch is best...anyone else agree this has worked well for them? I am sorry I am too embarrassed to take pics, but if I did it would probably really throw me into an emotional tailspin. OIL The overall oil decrease in one week is incredible. My scalp is not dry, but not so oily that I have to wash every other day. The oil on
  11. So it has been 5 days since my original post. I know it is still too early to really see a big difference, but I feel that my skin appears less oily throughout the day. I also think that my acne hasn't gotten any worse. I will say I had some new pimples come up, but they haven't been too painful or caused major swelling. Still frequently having to pee.
  12. Okay so - I wanted to share some before pictures. This is when I had hit my breaking point... I would have seriously burned off my face if it meant a beautiful new one would magically appear. I had stopped going to the dermatologist because the one I was seeing wouldn't believe me when I said everything I was dealing with on my face was totally hormonal and none of the stuff I had was working. I had been seeing her for about a year and a half. LUCKILY I found someone else but anyway... here's th
  13. I have been dealing with acne since I was about 14, and I am 24 now. I tried every antibiotic, topical, pill, gel, cream, facials and even accutane at age 15. Accutane worked WONDERS. I had beautiful clear baby soft skin in a matter of months. I never wore a drop of makeup. Then somewhere around the age of 20-21 my skin got dramatically worse. I began getting stubborn cyst-like pimples that wouldn't go away no matter what I did. I cut out dairy, became a pescetarian, took tons of vitamins daily,
  14. Hi! I'm dealing with severe acne since I was 13. 7 years later I have tried everything on the market for acne. I've also taken several antibiotics for acne, and tried many topical creams and nothing worked. The only thing that is left for me to try is isotretinoin. I was so happy when I heard about it, thinking it would cure my acne for good. But after reading about isotretinoin online, I have found out that it contains soya oil, and that patients who are allergic to nuts and soya can't take thi

    Week 5 Of Spiro

Hey guys so this hasn't been a good week for me! I've been under a lot of stress, have a major exam coming up in a few days and a whole lot else going on. And I feel like it is taking a toll on my skin. I've broken out quite a bit in the last week and a half. My skin has really dried out, but I feel like its dried out too much and my body is reacting by producing oil. So it looks slightly flaky but shiny. I'm still trying to figure out how to work around this. My forehead was clearing u
  16. This week I finally saw noticeable differences in my skin at least. My current blemishes went away and my skin started to almost have a glow to it. I had maybe two pimples, but the overall tone was much clearer. The side effects were all gone, except the occasional trip to the bathroom. Insomnia completely stopped, and I finally felt as if there was hope to ending all of the annoying blemishes and pounds of make-up to help me appear "flawless". My skin was also less oily, and I felt like the bla
  17. I actually ended up deciding to take half of my 100 mg pill to start off with and work my way up to a full 100 mg pill as I took spiro a few years ago at 100 mg and found it made me quite dizzy (which caused me to stop taking it altogether). So far I have not been dizzy yet, but I do pee more than usual (this could also be because I'm forcing myself to drink more water). My skin does not seem to get as oily though out the day and I have noticed a slight decrease in the amount of new cysts formin
  18. I just started on 100 mg of spironolactone today. I have had acne of some form since I was around 13, but back then it was very mild, a few small pimples on my chin periodically that would come and go. However, when I graduated high school and started college, my acne became cystic and painful. It started along my lower jaw line and spread up to my cheeks and forehead. I have dealt with cystic acne now for about three years. You can take a look at my spironolactone gallery to see pictures
  19. So I have been on spiro a little over a month. 50 mgs for the first three weeks, and for the past week and a half, I've been on 100mgs a day. Before I started spiro, my acne was not under control at all, yet it was not all over my face or anything. It was just stubborn. When I started taking doxycycline, I thought it would help, but I kept getting progressively worse. Then I added benzaclin and that made it worse, but it's because it just made my skin dry, yet also broken out and red and di
  20. Hey all! Just wanted to share my experience on this board in hopes that it may help others with their acne. I’m 26 years old and have been struggling with acne since my senior year of highschool. Throughout my teens my skin was pretty great for the most part, I was on Benzaclyn and Differin to help with a few small pimples here and there, but i never really had skin problems until i went to college. This is when my oily skin, pimples, and chin hair started to get bad. I had no idea that it was a
  21. Hi guys, about 6months into Spiro it finally started working and my acne cleared, but my hair started shedding like CRAZY and I'm losing my hair (it comes out with the bulb). Has anyone experienced this? Is it temporary? Please help it's the only treatment that worked after Accutane relapse and I'd be devastated to lose it....
  22. I’ve had it. My face is literally destroyed from breaking out in the past few months. Still have some cysts but not as many... still have some closed comedones but way less... scarred horrifically from the cystic acne. Indents and hyperpigmentation. I feel like under the light I look like a burn victim. I’m just washing with a salicylic acid wash now. Had to stop the BP again because of the irritation and burned skin... peeling and flaking and it just wouldn’t stop. My face wouldn’t just get us
  23. Can't believe it's been 6 months! I started taking spiro back on October 23, 2012. Time flies. I've had ups and downs, and here are my latest thoughts: -- Spiro is great at keeping hormonal levels in check. In addition to a birth control pill that is low in androgens, I 100% think spiro is a great option for women who struggle with acne brought on by stress, PMS etc. -- Spiro does not make miracles happen. Don't get me wrong, it helped A LOT, but I also learned that there were other underly
  24. My skin looks the best it has ever been in the last 5+ years. I have maybe 2 spots that are totally minor. No cysts at all! And I'm getting my period this week, so normally this would be the worst my skin looks throughout the month. I'm so happy and so glad I stuck with the spiro. I saw my primary care physician yesterday and she said I can stop the doxycycline completely. So I'll just be taking the 100mg/day of spiro and my birth control pill. I'm still using the tretinoin cream 0.025% at night
  25. Hello everyone. I was wondering what was the difference between the effects of Spiro and Estroblock (and/or other similar "holistic" alternative, DHT Block etc.), and I decided to ask here since I couldn't find any answer to my question online. - Can something like Estroblock/DHT Block help with PCOS acne? - If Spiro works for someone (by decreasing androgens, and oily skin etc.), will Estroblock work the same way? I have been on Spiro for some time and while I *FINALLY* see results, I'm
