  1. Issue: Congestion on forehead/hairline Solution: Discontinue Shampoo & substitute baking soda as Shampoo(only on roots/scalp) 1x week for my curly hair.+Vitamins! This has immensely helped.I even went to the doctor to have my hormones checked, they turned out to be "normal".I also stopped using aloe vera gel in my hair and continued with my Bain De Terre smoothing gel avoiding hairline. I am extremely surprised and happy with the results. I wish i had done this sooner. I also use tea t
  2. Yesterday i noticed some horrific large spots in my scalp - almost cyst size - 3/4 large, inflamed, inflamed, painful to touch spots. Today they are significantly reduced and on way to fading but i did sleep a good 9 hours for the first time in ages last night. Things to note: Last 2 nights i have used a shampoo i don't usually use, normally i would use somekind of dandruff type one but i was somewhere else so had no choice - one i used: Dove Hair Therapy Intensive Repair Shampoo
  3. Hi, I'm a long-time reader, first time poster. I've been on a pursuit to cure my acne without Accutane. I've had acne since I was a teenager (I'm 38, Caucasian, female), and the only reprieve I got was from going on Accutane in my early 20s. My acne came back during my first pregnancy in my early 30s, and I have been battling with it ever since. I've been reading many forums on acne.org for several months now, and I have many of people's suggestions: I'm taking Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5 (in l
  4. I started taking Nizoral shampoo (active ingredient ketoconazole) a couple of weeks ago. I think around the 22nd of October. So it's been a couple of weeks now. I think it's an anti-fungal and anti-dandruff shampoo and i have been using it on my face and scalp after a shower. I remember seeing it being mentioned as somehow working for acne as well, i think it is supposed to be a DHT inhibitor, or something like that, it can reduce sebum production maybe. I have never bothered with it in the
  5. Hello all. I made this thread to question what I should do about the rest of the skin on my body since I started treating the skin on my face with utmost care. I am currently using some run of the mill mens body wash and am beginning to think that I can do better. I have been checking out a line of products called "Yes To" and they seem to have a good reputation and from a consumer standpoint they seem reliable with a quality product that isnt expensive. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D42C9H8/r
  6. hello everyone i have recently gone to my local supermarket and bought myself a big bottle of head and shoulders shampoo, after seeing a topic that was posted on this site some years ago saying that it cleared their mild acne, so i though maybe it will clear mine!? it seems to dry my skin a little and it feels tight asif maybe its tightened all of my pores? today is day 3 of washing my face with it once in the morning and once at night and i have had no new breakouts so far and my skin is soo
  7. I have had severe adult acne for years now. Acne on my back, shoulders, chest, around my hair line, and severely painful cystic acne on jawline and neck. I tried prescription strength acne face wash, washing with natural oils, changes in my diet, etc. To make a long story short - I was given a new shampoo and conditioner to try and my acne immediately started to clear up! I still have scars, whiteheads and pimples that are drying up and are in a healing state. But since I stopped using Pantene P
  8. BEFORE accutane, I already had a quite bad dandruff problem. Almost my entire life. Oily hair, dry scalp. I've learned to live with it, though. I use T-Gel extra strength a couple times a week, after releasing all current dead skin, and I'm great at resisting head scratching. When I was younger my mom would do mineral oil treatments on my scalp which would help for a couple weeks, but my hair would obviously be extremely oily. I've only been on accutane for 1 week, and my scalp has gotten s
  9. Hi guys, Another day, another dollar. I'm currently at work on a Friday afternoon and thought hmmm I haven't updated my "blog" in a while. Obviously when we have a breakout, we jump onto google/acne.org in the hopes of finding an answer. I'm just going to paste my skincare routine from my prev blog entry & then add some notes. This is less boring then reading paragraphs. Just to update you though, my acne has now shifted from my cheeks (relieved not to have to deal with constant cysts) -
  10. Hello guys! I need help its been a year since I finished a 6 month round of accutane I was on 60 mg and I've been left with really really dry hair. It just looks dead and lifeless I only wash it once a week! Does anyone have any advice. What can I use shampoo conditioner wise?? Thanks
  11. This post is related to an experience my 21 year old daughter recently had. She started using Ouidad products at the advice of her hairdresser. She has always had relatively clear skin, with an occasional breakout here and there. The last few months I noticed she was starting to break out pretty badly, but only in places her hair touched (forehead and side of cheeks). I mentioned to her on many occasions that it might be her hair care products and shampoo. I had a horrible experience in the past
  12. Hey everyone, I just decided to go SLS free with my shower products. SLS free shampoo, body wash, facial cleanser and toothpaste. However, I noticed that the shampoo and body wash says "sulfates and paraben free" but still contains Sodium Olefin Sulfonate. Does anyone know if this is as bad as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or using this won't be an issue? Please let me know because I spent quite a bit on these products and don't want to use them if they are useless. Thanks
  13. I've been on accutane for 13 days now and I feel like I've already seen a difference, which is amazing. I hope I don't get the big bad initial breakout some people talk about. But I've already been experiencing pretty bad dry scalp and dandruff, I've been using the Garnier Fructis anti- dandruff shampoo which doesn't seem to be working at all. Whats the best anti-dandruff shampoo people have been using?
  14. Some Leave-in Hair Products May Cause Acne

Leave-in hair products include pomades, oils, gels, sprays, mousses, conditioners, brilliantines, and jellies that are applied to and left in the hair. These products may contain ingredients that can be irritating or pore-clogging to already sensitive, acne-prone skin. When you apply products to your hair, you can inadvertently get some of the product onto your skin, especially at the hairline. You can also transfer them to other parts of the face if you touch your hair...
  15. what i want to know, desperately, is why am i suddenly have small but red angry white headed zits on one of my cheeks. some of them do slightly itch sometimes.not all. am also having teeny-tiny whiteheads on the same chick. and today i had a new one..the place itched for quite some time and then after a while i noticed i have a red head there. i anyway have many spots/PIH on that part of my face and now this. **it could be heat(i spent cooking hours one in the kitchen, its summer here)
  16. So I have always had a somewhat dry scalp, but it seems to be worse due to being on accutane, even for only a week. What are some good moisturizing conditioners that would help combat the dryness and flakes? Whats weird is that it really only is dry around my hairlines, like right above my forehead, my back of neck hairline, and my upper side burn area. I hear olive oil is great so I tried that, but it made my hair feel very oily with the flakes and itchiness still present...plus it was
  17. Now that I've done away with commercial facial cleansers, I need some suggestions for shampoos/hair cleansers for long hair that will not aggravate acne. Thanks!
  18. Hey guys, so ive been on accutane for roughly 3 weeks and can see a noticable amount of dandruff or what i believe to be dandruff. I went out and bought neutrogena T-get shampoo and a nice moisturizing conditioner but it doesnt seem to be working too well. My hair was oily before accutane but i can see a huge difference in less oil production in my hair. I was wondering if any of you have had this same problem and would like to reccommend some shampoos that will do a good job moisturi
  19. Hey so I thought I would actually start a little blog, I like to express myself through writing. The reason I have started today is because I have a new treatment cream - Azelaic Acid. I went to my doctor a few weeks ago pretty down about my acne and she gave me a wee booklet to read over, it had a list of alot prescription treatments. A few I have tried and found that I either got impatient or they just did not work for me. For a long time I was using a topical gel called Adapalene? Im su
  20. I just don't get it! The only thing I do get is that people with tiny pores, are kind invisible cause nothing can get in them, but I don't get it. Are molecules to big to clog pores, and then jus the right size to clog pores? I mean people say vaseline doesn't clog pores..or castor oil... I mean if you have excessive skin cell production then oil could trap skin cells…and people with normal skin growth won't have excessive skin cell build up I guess How long does a product have to
  21. When im taking a shower and getting ready to shampoo my hair i usually do this before i wash my face with dans cleanser.. But when i wash my hair with shampoo and it runs down my face does it affect acne in any type of way like i wash my hair with head and shoulders for men and when i rinse my hair it runs down the sides of my face and stuff.. Does it matter or no? i Was just curious would it have any affect?
  22. A friend of mine has really pretty, healthy-looking hair, and my dried out mop needs some love and attention (not to mention my scalp), so I asked her about her hair regimen. Like me, she just uses a simple, non-harsh shampoo (Head & Shoulders Classic Clean for me, Tesco Value store brand for her). The bit where it gets interesting is her "pre-conditioner": she massages sunflower oil into her scalp and hair and then rinses it off before shampooing (3 times a week). So I thought, "hey, why
  23. I have been on Doryx and Doxy for a year when I realized it has led to horrible allergic reactions to products I used to be able to use with ease--salicylic acid, dandruff shampoo, zinc in sunscreen. I'm off the antibiotics, I went through a one week course of Diflucan that was hell to get through (night sweats, body odor--still have it), and just to test whether I was in the clear, I used a tiny amount of Neturogena Coal Tar shampoo because I have bad dandruff. Breakouts on scalp, ch
