  1. So one month of the AHA and Retinol usage has come to pass. I haven't missed any applications and I'm feeling good about my decisions to do this. I'm still not sure what kind of results I'm seeing, nor am I confident I will ever be rid of the pitted/rolling acne scars or the occasional break out. But! I will definitely take softer skin, less turn around between pimple appearances, and a somewhat more even skin tone of that happens to be what I get out of it. My mother, who anyone can tell h
  2. I've seen lots of people say you should avoid shea butter if you have oily skin and I decided to try it out. I personally liked the feeling of it, but I still trust general consensus more. However I have been using topical retinol which has dried out my skin. I'm wondering whether that means I can use Shea Butter confidently now?

    7 Months

From the album: AHA & Retinol

So it's been about 7 months since I started my new skin chair regimen. The physical pitted scars are still prevalent, but so much of the hyperpigmentation is gone. So much better than where I started last year!

    Week 4

From the album: AHA & Retinol

One month has gone by and I'm seeing some progress here and there! I'm changing my regimen slightly, as mentioned in my blog, and hope to see continuing success and good results.

    Week 2

From the album: AHA & Retinol

Not much change to be expected after only 2ish weeks, but I am noticing some things. My face never has that grimey feel I used to get between physical exfoliating and it doesn't get dull looking either. I've noticed some backlash from using the products, but nothing serious at the moment. Minimal tone evening as well.
  7. Hello, We don't have tretinoid in my country in Europe so I'm wondering if I could buy it over the counter in Hong Kong? I'm here for a quick visit and I've tried everything else except for accutane and tretinoin without any improvements fit two years now (anti biotic, adapalen, ben per., clindamycin, Diane). Please advice if you know if I can get tretinoin in Hong Kong! :whistling:
  8. I starting using retinol 1.0 on my acne red marks/hyper-pigmentation and it seems to be making them redder. I only started one week ago. Are the marks supposed to get redder before the skin peels off? Has anyone had success with retinol for their reg marks?
  9. Hello acne.org, Does anyone else have enlarged pores/appearance of larger pores from using Tretinoin or any other retinol?
  10. I have had acne since I was 12, and after decades of OTCs, expensive prescriptions, dermabrasions ( three to be exact), and a face lift, I can honestly tell you what may be the best possible solution to rid yourself of daily erruptions. I won't go into the long details of what hasn't worked, just to fast forward to what I have found that does!! The very BEST over the counter products I have, and still do use, are Old Grandpas sulphur soap, Bye Bye Blemish (sulpur based drying lotion, not reall
  11. I first started getting severe acne over three years ago that only recently started to subside after I started making grass-fed gelatin a part of my diet. I eat a very plant based diet (no meat or dairy products), workout frequently, have a regular cycle, etc. - so my issues with acne were beyond me. My dermatologist put me on Retin-A that left my skin dry and irritated, and gave me horrible acne scars. I wound up going off of it (after two years) when my insurance expired, and then switched
  12. Hi all, I'm a guy in his mid 20s from the UK who has always suffered with mild - medium acne. However over the last few years (and months!) it seems to be getting worse, not better. I know it is winter, but I still feel like I should have better skin than this. I have a very corporate job and my skin can really get me down/drain confidence from me. Most recently I've been getting loads of white heads and redness on my cheeks and deeper, bigger, more painful spots along my jawline(nearer the
  13. Keratosis Pilaris - Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments

Symptoms of Keratosis Pilaris Keratosis pilaris may develop at any age but usually starts either before the age of 2 or in adolescence.1 The condition is very common: it occurs in up to 70% of adolescents and 40% of adults.2 People of all ethnicities are equally at risk. The signs and symptoms may include: Painless hard bumps 1-2 mm in diameter, which are often the same color as your skin but can also be red, white, pinkish, or...
  14. Hey guys, I'm here to share my story about Retin A damage. I used Retin A for 2 months (exactly 12 uses) and it destroyed my skin. I had very nice skin before this happened and was only given Retin A as a preventive against aging and for a few chin breakouts. It has caused huge pores, orange peel texture, dents, lines, cracks, dehydrated, dry, molted skin with a shiny film covering it. I'm extremely depressed about this, but I'm still hopeful that this damage can be fixed. I'm just short of 3
  15. 12 Week update: A couple of weeks ago I started using Cerave moisturizing cream (the one in the big tub). My skin was so dry I was putting on two thick layers before going to bed at night and one more in the morning. I stopped using aloe and any of the oils because honestly I just felt like they were making my breakouts worse. In terms of dryness and peeling the Cerave cream saved my face. It moisturized in a way nothing else I have tried has, better than coconut oil, aveeno, or the regular Cera

    I wish...

I wish I was able to find my ancient acne.org profile. My problems then, at 14 years old, paled in comparison to what I'm currently dealing with at only 25. Random, ugly scarring on one side of my face only. It all started about a year ago but I brushed it off as one bad zit but to be quite honest I was in denial. Acne had not been a problem for years and I honestly could not recall having a zit where this new scar was forming...but I digress...and at that point in time, I let it go. This pa

    Turning Point

So, in the past two weeks I've and two really defining moments for my skin. One happened late last week at work. A coworker came up and asked what I was doing to my skin because it looked so much better. Needless to say this meant a ton to me. Especially as I knew it wasn't empty as it was unprompted and from someone I'm not close with. I considered this a win. And then there was today, also at work. I went to the bathroom and as I was washing my hands I actually LOOKED in the mirror. I a
  18. So I'm about to finish up my second week of application tomorrow (today is a rest day) and I thought I'd make note of what I've noticed. For one thing, my face constantly feels soft. I no longer get that grimey feeling of dead skin sitting on top of new skin. Even when I used the Neutrogena exfoliator I would have days between using it where I would notice a huge difference. I also feel like my skin looks less dull and tired. Makeup goes on more smoothly, but I will say that it seems to want
  19. Okay so 4 years ago I was prescribed isotrexin gel and I used it for about 2/3 months. However i went from having small pimples to having cystic acne all of my forehead because of it. Although my skin has calmed down since (fewer cystic pimples), i still break out every week and the scars/hyperpigmentation marks stay for a very long time before they fade. The isotrexin gel has basically ruined my skin. My entire forehead is a different texture. It is constantly dry and no moisturizer helps. I on
  20. Hi. I was suffering from inflammatory acne for a while however my dermatologist prescribed me epiduo and doxycyline and I have noticed huge results within only a month. However I still have this strange scaly texture on the left side of my forehead. (Pictures show on your right) It's like a patch or cluster of slightly raised bumps. It's the same color as my skin and sometimes itchy (not really) and much more noticeable in the light. It doesn't look like acne to me plus it's not going away with
  21. So I started using isotrexin gel (isotrexin gel 30g Erythromycin 2% + Isotretinoin 0.05%) and a retinol cream (Retimax 1500 30g 0.25%). What I would do is in the day I would apply the retinol cream then before I go to bed I would wash my face with a cleanser then apply the isotrex gel and go to sleep. Am I damaging my skin by using both of these? There's no damage/side affects that I could see besides the usual initial breakout. But I still would like to know just in case sh*t gets worse! (A
  22. To cut to the chase, I had bad acne from 1994-2003. I went on roaccutane from 2003 for 6 months which helped. My skin has been quite clear lately except a pimple here and there and red marks from them. But...I really can't stand my pores. It's like they have a really dark shadow, maybe because they are clean, open and deep. I don't think they are blackheads...unless the dark bits are under my skin but I have been told they are open pores and it's smooth so it isn't clogged( ironically they l
  23. Hey Guys, Veteran member here. Ive been battling acne since I was a teen, cant remember how young now. I've had 2 courses of accutane and tried numerous topicals. Around 26-27 yrs of age, my acne became very mild and manageable. I've just had my first child, and my skin has steadily gone downhill since giving birth. I am 11 months post-partum and my skin looks the worst it ever has. Over the last 6 months i have tried proactiv, PC BHA 2%, PC BHA 4%, (no BP as this is too damaging to my
  24. Have any suggestions..? the PUREST you know of. no added unnecessary ingredients that may exuberate acne. thank you (:
  25. Hey all. I'm not really sure what to say, just that I am feeling really low again lately about the condition of my skin. Some days I think it's fine, other days I feel like a monster with the ugliest skin ever. I don't know what to do. It's hard to talk to anyone that I actually know in real life, because I feel like people lie to make you feel better. Sometimes, it would be nice just to hear some true honesty. I guess that's kind of what I'm looking for. I don't want to be unrealistic about the
