  1. I’m a bit late updating as not much has really happened. Just over a week ago my doctor upped me to 40mg, he warned me that because I had such a good first month my skin would likely get worse for a while when increasing my dosage. My skin has actually stayed the same, I haven’t had any breakouts, the only think I’ve noticed is that other parts of my body are starting to get really dry now too like my arms and knees. One thing that did surprise me is the price of the Isotretinoin. 20mg onl
  2. A month later, drained cyst had refilled slightly so I ended up taking co amoxalave 302mg x3 a day for 14 days and augmentin 250x3 for 14 days. These antibiotics where pretty strong and so helped clear up the rest of my acne pretty effectively. Although It being a quick fix I was pleased with this. I found a warm compress helped fluid drain internally and much of the inflammation was just fluid and not pus. all the smaller marks are just red marks and purple marks, not actual acne. I had d
  3. So i went to my GP for acne problems. its nothing severe but its VERY persistent. i've been going to him for years and getting different antibiotics which just do not work. He's just referred me to the hospital and the appointment is the end of october and i just dont want to wait that long ESPECIALLY if at the hospital he says he cant do anything. its got the point where i wont go into shops because all of them have massive mirrors and I HATE seeing the inflammation and redness and the spots, i
  4. A Bit About My Acne: I started getting mild acne at the age of 13; as I got older I started getting under the skin cysts and my acne became more moderate. I’m 20 now and my acne severity has lessened with the help of the pill and creams, although my skin is still not where I would like it to be. My First Dermatology Appointment: After a bad break out last month I begged my Doctor to refer me to a dermatologist. The waiting list in my area to see a dermatologist is 8 months, so I ended up
  5. The epiduo at first made my skin very red and painful. My condition worsened at first and then I saw a huge reduction in my small "zits". My face remained slightly oily however. The antibiotics where fine and i had no side effects. The first photo is poor quality however it does show how my cysts are still coming thick and fast despite the reduction in the yellow head spots. its like trading the pus filled nasties for more serious acne that will later look 10 times worse. I finished my summer ex
  6. I returned from holiday to have my condition get progressively worse for the next 3 weeks. I had multiple gp visits where I was essentially freaking out. My triple cyst had full on ruptured and burst and I could feel it painful and pulsating as if it had a life of its own. It was over an inch wide and 2/3 inch tall and puffy. Now this is where I lost confidence in the Nhs in treatment of non life threatening issues. The story; After my 3rd gp visit I was in despair, they had given me a
  7. It's been a few weeks since I last updated this blog, so be prepared for a long one! Right now, without hopefully jinxing it, I have no actives on my face!! It's by no means clear however, unfortunately still some quite persistent lumps from previous spots that just won't go down . I also have A LOT of hyperpigmentation and a few scars so definitely not looking clear by any means. But I honestly can't believe this right now, after just 4 weeks I've reached a point where I am going a good few
  8. I finally visited a private dermatologist. The initial consultation was £200, the blood work was £200 and the medicine was £50. I could have had the blood tests done on the NHS but I felt like I had waited long enough. At this point I would say my acne was very red and my face was very greasy. The derm prescribed me antibiotics for 2 weeks before starting accutane to prevent a bad initial flare up. was then given 40mg a day for a month and told to have another checkup then. For the first 2 w
  9. I'm on month 1.5 of accutane however ill be backtracking with the photos i have to show the extent of my acne and what worked for me. and highlight some issues with the nhs. This photo if one of the only ones i have and is me in my summer exams revising sending a stupid selfie to my mates. I had just lost a friend in an accident had glandular fever and had my summer exams approaching so it definitely points my condition to have been caused as an response. As you can see this is where my
  10. Hello everyone! This is my first post on acne.org and I'm looking forward to joining the community! I'll give an overview first but my main questions I need help with are numbered below! Feel free to have a nose at my story but if you want to get straight to the point its clear too... I'll give a brief (if I can, I have a tendency to ramble!) overview of my skin history; so I'm 23, based in the central area of the UK. I've always suffered from minor breakouts that never bothered me throu
  11. I went to Thailand for 5 weeks as a reward for my hard work at university and working as a control engineer intern at a local factory. This brought to me a few issues. Sun, alcohol, and food. I enjoyed my holiday a lot with lots of drink and other various things. This do doubt put a strain on my system. However I love scuba diving and snorkelling and I spent around 50% of my time on the beach playing football (not the american boring version! (ruffle some feathers ) or swimming or just
  12. Hi, I've had moderate acne since the age of 17. I'm nearly 22 and sick of it now, I've put off accutane for as long as I can and now think it is honestly the last resort. I keep getting large spots that take weeks to disappear and its getting me down. My question is if I start the course privately in the UK with a derm, is it possible to transfer to the NHS once this has began to reduce costs? I don't mind spending but don't want to be broke due to my skin. Any thoughts?
  13. Hi guys, I've had acne for a while now (around 2-3 years but it got worse this last year) and of course, have tried everything in my power to treat it e.g. monitoring diet, changing sheets everyday, fasting, steaming, natural remedies, PanOxyl, BP, Duac, RetinA, Adapalene, Lymecycline, Oxytetracycline to no avail. I had an appointment on the 17th February with my GP and he finally referred me (here's referral pathway http://www.18weeks.scot.nhs.uk/downloads/1292945067-acne.pdf) to see a
