  1. I am taking 2 Anti-Biotic pills a day, one in the morning and one at night. When I am in the shower,(usually an hour after I take the pill) I use a 2% salicylic acid cleanser. I also use Concealer sometimes when my acne is a bit rough, the makeup concealer has 0.5% salicylic acid in it as well. I would also like to note, right before I go to bed, I also take the prescriptive acne creme called Differin (0.1% Adapelene, probably some other stuff in there as well) RECAP: I take a pill when I w
  2. I've been struggling with acne since I was in middle school and now that I'm 18 I'm more than tired of dealing with my skin. I've gone to a dermatologist many times and my current one has prescribed me aczone and tretinoin along with changing my birth control from Orsythia to Sprintec. I had already tried Tretinoin in the past with no success, but we thought I would try it again as a last ditch effort before accutane. The first few weeks my skin has gone from having mild/moderate acne (black hea
  3. From the album: Ziana, Solodyn, Aczone. (& OCPs)

In reality, my face is not usually so red. I took these pictures immediately after washing so that I could photograph my hyperpigmentation scars when they're agitated. It makes my progress easier to track when I can see how flaming red they are now... and hopefully won't be in the future . Other than those few huge ones, I hadn't had any flare-ups in a while. The rampage was over and I was finally healing. However, I wanted to see a dermatologist to make sure I keep the crazy under control
  4. Hi, I’ve been taking spiro since November and was initially taking 50mg. At the start of January my skin was starting to clear up nicely and my oil levels had been slightly reduced, but from all the research I had done, I figured 100mg would be the boost I needed to clear my skin for good. But now it’s been a few weeks and my skin seems to be oily again and I’m getting more bumps and spots around my jaw. My regime and diet hasn’t changed at all, so I know that can’t be a reason. I
  5. Any help is greatly appreciated. I recently went to my dermatologist and she prescribed Epiduo for my cystic acne on my chin. And I used to use Clindamycin/Benzoyl Peroxide (1.2%/5%) on my nose/forehead. I started the peroxide again last week and only used it twice before it started making my skin feel like a lizard and burn like FIRE when I moisturize. It’s been about 4-5 days ago and it’s still not calming down. I’m not sure if it’s due to putting moisturizer on after I put
  6. I'm on a prescription of isotetrinoin and azithromycin .... I eat one pill on alternative days. So today I was supposed to eat isotetrinoin but unfortunately I'm not at home and I don't have the pill around me so tomorrow when I'll go home should I take the isotetrinoin pill in morning and azithromycin at night... Instead of just taking azithromycin that day alone as I am supposed to do ?
  7. My acne had started to get tremendously worse so I went to my doctor and he put me back on an acne treatment. As soon as I started it the next morning, my face turned bright red and was very warm and itchy later on in the day. I put on prescription clindamycin phosphate topical lotion in the morning and then 10% BP gel afterward and then proceeded to do my makeup. Later in the day, my face reacted like no other. I think doing my makeup right after affected my face in some way with the BP gel b
  8. I am a 24 year old black female who has been plagued with acne and all that comes alongside with it for 10 years. After a gruelling battle with the NHS, I am now on my second month of the elusive prescription medication Accutane, or Roaccutane as it is referred to here in Europe. I thought it it would be useful to create this blog space on such a large platform for fellow acne sufferes here on Acne.org so it may be of use to anyone. Plus, I thought it would be good to look back on. Ok th
  9. Hi everyone! I started taking erythromycin a few months ago to help with my acne (on my face, back and chest). It helped at first, but slowly the acne started to come back so I went back to my GP and got a prescription of lymecycline. This was about 3 weeks ago and right now I have had a really really terrible breakout not only on my face, but it's also on my back and chest. It's the worst it has been in about 4 years. I'm going to go back to my doctor about this, but my questions are: Do
  10. I'm going the visit the dermatologist soon for the first time after reading up a bit on prescription treatments. The best option I have seen is Retin A, but I really don't want to go on it since I heard the purge can be horrible for many months. I'm willing to go on it if it will help, but are there any other alternative the dermatologist can prescribe that does NOT have a purging period? I don't want to have to go through a purge since I don't want to still be broken out because of it by the ti
  11. Hi everyone, I visited a dermatologist today because I have been having some facial redness, and he said I could have rosacea, in addition to acne scarring. He prescribed a vitamin cocktail called Nicadan, which basically contains niacinamide and other vitamins & minerals (you can look it up for specifics). Apparently the combination and dosage is scientifically proven to work, so I'm willing to give it a go, although I'm not excited about some of the fillers in the capsule. Has anyone tried
  12. Hi! Yesterday I got prescribed a form of antibiotic called Lymecycline to help eliminate my minor-medium acne problem. I've been struggling with acne from around the age of 13-14 (I'm now 18) and so I thought that with university coming up, I should probably try and sort my acne out (as waiting for it to die out on its own hasn't done any good). 4 years ago -around the time my acne bombed my face and body- I was put on a liquid antibiotic that tasted a bit like paracetamol (I have no idea what
  13. Hello everyone I have an interesting question is anyone can help me. Every single time I start getting into weight training I break out in pimples. Not bad acne just more pimples. Well I started lofting more and I mean every day that I love I will find 2-5 new pimples on my legs or arms. They are inflamed hair follicles and its not bad but I mean every time I lift weights my skin breaks out more. No change in diet. No protein shakes or dairy so nothing changes but I get pimples on my neck arms l
  14. For 8 weeks, I took Minocycline 100mg pills twice a day everyday. I followed my deremetologists orders as well as using a prescription facewash and creams. I also looked into Minocycline on the internet. I saw that one of the side effects were teeth discoloration. Throughout my entire duration of taking Minocycline, I noticed my that my teeth had slight discoloration and it increased as I continued the pill. My skin has became better, and some of my acne went away but I still have scarring. I de
  15. Hey guys! This is my first post so sorry if i don't get terms right. Basically I am a 16 year old male so it is expected for me to get some breakouts. It all started about 2 years ago when I first started taking care of my skin, I noticed my spots got worse and it turned into one or two spots a week to one new spot everyday. I don't know if these spots are called whiteheads but I mean the ones that get a head and you can pop them! Obviously after I noticed I was getting more spots I started to t
  16. Hey all! I started having moderate acne at 13 years old, and at 16 until now at 19 it has turned into mild but very persistent acne and bacne. I find a new pimple every day, get the occasional whitehead, have lots of small red bumps on my forehead, cheeks, and jawline, and have tons of acne scars. My face has been super oily and rough for the past couple years. I am also Asian, who are apparently very prone to hyper-pigmentation (just my luck). For about 1.5 years I have been on Epiduo presc
  17. Just got back from my one month follow up at the dermatologist. My dermatologist is pretty drab and to the point so not much discussion. She asked me my side effects, any mood changes, etc. After taking my contacts out last night, my eyes were so bloodshot I think from the dryness so she recommended liquid tears so I'll have to check those out. Other than that, I just answered my iPledge questions and just have to wait for my prescription to be filled and it is on to month 2! I hate to rush
  18. Anyone taking using sodium sulfacetamide 10% wash (aka Re-10 wash)? I want to ask my dermatologist for it, but I don't know how to ask my derm or how to bring it up.
  19. Hi! I am new to Acne.org despite having acne for five years now. My acne started when I was 13 and I immediately started using salycylic acid and benzoyl peroxide on it. It worked to control my acne in the beginning but lost its touch after a couple years. Every year my acne got worse and I tried many natural treatments that I've pretty much exhausted. I didn't have good health insurance so it was hard for me to see a dermatologist. This year I saw one and he prescribed me Retin-A 0.05. I wear a
  20. Hi there. I'm an 18-year-old male who at the beginning of this year (January time) was prescribed an 8-week course of lymecycline for my moderate acne. This was the first time I had actively looked for medical help for my acne which I have been suffering from since I was 12. After about two weeks of using the drug (1 tablet a day) I began to notice a few more hairs falling when I was in the shower. I would say around 10-15 at first. I know that this is normal for many as we lose around a 100 hai
  21. Male 23. I took accutane for about 4 months at 50mg a day. I have about 2 and a half months worth of medicine on my night stand still. The problem is that I quit early because my skin was really clear, but now I'm breaking out a little on my face. If I restart accutane after being off for about 3-4 months will it continue where I left off?
  22. I have been prescribed MInocycline by my derm. and after a week Im broken out in hives and my face is not clearer in fact i have red spots all over. School starts tomorrow! Anyone else have this problem?
  23. I know that others have asked about tanning while on Accutane, but I've never actually seen anyone mention anything about the beach? I've been on Accutane before, but it was during the winter so I didn't have to worry about the sun. However, this is my second trial and now I live in Hawaii, so I am always at the beach or in the ocean, though Hawaii is on the equator, so it's closer to the sun. Will I have to stop going altogether? Or can I just douse myself in sunblock? What will happen if I
  24. hi, i started spironolactone [50 mg, 2x a day], prescribed by my derm, for my hormal acne about 10 days ago. i got a little bit of an initial breakout [only whiteheads, none of those nasty cysts] that's actually already beginning to dry up. the acne on my back has seriously diminished. i like what spiro's doing for my skin. the problem is that starting last night, i started having debilitating nausea. i was woken up by nausea in the middle of the night and felt so bad i sat hunched over
  25. Hey everyone. So I made an account after reading posts and topics for the past week. I got prescribed 2 different topical gels from two different dermatologists. One was benzaclin gel and the other was tactuo (epiduo). I am really torn as to which i should use. I have alot of black heads ( deep ones, small ones, inflamed ones) and once and a while ill get the occasional white head. But right now its blackheads and hyperpigmentation. I am a 19 year old black male. The dermatologist said th
