  1. So I had acne for 20 years. In that time I must have visited 9-10 dermatologists. I started suffering from acne when I was 14 and cured it on my own when I was about 36. And I swear each dermatologist gave me the same treatment, over the years and whatever age I was at. The treatment never varied, in spite of me telling them again and again that this did not work last time. I still remember driving back from the derm when I was 26 with my eyes full of tears because she had been arrogant and gi
  2. Hi I was recently prescribed clindmycin 1% twice daily and tretinoin 0.025% every other night. I've been using them for three days now on my really bad breakout(2 big cysts, a bunch of pustules on the temples, jaw, and forehead). So, I am wondering how long will it take until I can see some of those pimples go away or even for the purge to begin.
  3. So my dermatologist finally prescribed me Accutane, and I have moderately severe acne that scars. My medicine is supposed to be ready to be picked up tomorrow after 3 pm, but I'm worried because my derm prescribed me only 20mg/day and i'm 17, 5'4.5, and 117 pounds (female). Do you think if I call him in the morning and ask for a higher dosage that they will change this month's from 20 to 40? Or is it too late? I don't want my acne to come back once the course is over, and my derm said I will be
  4. Hi everyone! Thank you for reading my post. I would like to share my experience with prescription retinoids and hear yours as well. I have been using adapalene 0.3% (Differin highest strength) for about a year. It helps to reduce the number and severity of my breakouts, but not as well as I would like it to. My dermatologist is switching me to tretinoin 0.025% (Retin-A lowest strength). If anyone has tried both, would you please kindly share your experience, comparing and contrasting the two? I
  5. Hello everyone! This is my first post on acne.org and I'm looking forward to joining the community! I'll give an overview first but my main questions I need help with are numbered below! Feel free to have a nose at my story but if you want to get straight to the point its clear too... I'll give a brief (if I can, I have a tendency to ramble!) overview of my skin history; so I'm 23, based in the central area of the UK. I've always suffered from minor breakouts that never bothered me throu
  6. Hello, so I am absolutely fed up with my acne. It is literally ruining my life - I cannot make eye contact anymore, I don't like having to go to school or any public places, and I'm just pleading for it to be over. I'm a 17 year old male with what some people would only call mild to moderate acne, yet it has destroyed my confidence (I apologize to those who have worse acne, I do not mean to offend you /: ) I have had bad acne for about 5 years, I first started off on a bunch of acne kits, and t
  7. So I just got Epiduo, and I'm a little confused. They say only use a pea size drop, but how is that supposed to work for my whole face? do I use drops for every part (forehead, nose, cheeks)? please help!
  8. My acne just keeps getting bigger and badder and the scarring is simply getting more vicious by the day, even if I refrain from popping. I have a short temper so when I see peoples' eyes wandering from my eyes to drill into the aberrations, I snap at them and I'm not even embarrassed at all for my outbursts because I'm still too angry to begin to feel any shame. :/ One thing that bugs me is the fact that I never seem to get simply "small" pimples. At the moment, there's simply several large
  9. Hey everyone, so I've had this tube of Retin-A (tretinoin cream) for a while now (about a year) but haven't really used it. When I first got it I used it for some time but not long enough to see it work. I don't remember an initial breakout, but I do remember dry skin. I've been off it for about 6 months (maybe a little less) and have decided to use it again. However, I'm probably going to start using it with antibiotics and vitamins. What should I expect? How long will it take for things to cl
  10. Let me preface my post by saying that I had been suffering through near-continuous acne for a pretty long period of time before I was prescribed Ceftin by my dermatologist (probably since the last few years of junior high school), and in fact, this antibiotic was the first one prescribed by the dermatologist because I dropped my last one after years of almost zero results thanks to his prescriptions and advice. When I say "advice," I'm being generous... it was more like "talk for two minutes abo
  11. SKIP TO THE BOTTOM IF YOU DONT WANT THE STORY AND JUST WANT TO START THE LOG Hello, my name is Jon and I'm a 16 year old teenager that is on Accutane (claravis) 60mg daily. I am going to use this forum to provide updates of the good and bad effects of the drug. I will list some important information about myself so anyone can see if they relate - Have moderate acne only on cheeks (some white heads, more cysts) - Senior in high school - Run intense long distance workouts 5 days a week
  12. My derm started me on Retin-A Micro. I've been on it for six days, and it's basically already worked miracles on my skin. Derm told me that if I can stand it I can use it morning and night, which is what I've been doing (though I'm allergic to certain chemicals like BP and SLS and anything wheat, my skin tends to be pretty much as tough as elephant hide). I've skipped maybe one or two mornings but other than that been really consistent. I wash with Hibiclens that has a few drops of extra glyce
  13. Hello! I have been on Retin-A 0.1% for almost a year now. For the most part I've been very happy with it... but, I guess I'm feeling frustrated. about two months back i was getting foundation matched at the counter and the lady used what seemed like an alcohol makeup remover... or something along those lines. Anyways it gave me a chemical burn for a good week and I suffered from rashes all down my chest. So I kinda had to taper off the Retin-A to every other day so my face wouldn't hurt so bad
  14. What are all the acne treatments that do not cause an initial breakout? I know antibiotics and non-retinoid topical creams usually dont; and accutane, birth control, spiro, and retinoid topical creams usually do. Am I missing any other non-over the counter treatments? I am currently on my 2nd month of amoxicillin 500 mg twice a day and klaron lotion + benzamycin gel. I've experienced a horrific initial breakout on epiduo (bp + retinoid) that lasted 2 months and stopped when my dermatologist
  15. So in a couple of days, at the ripe ol' age of 25...I will be going to my FIRST EVER dermatologist appointment. I am on BCPs, so I am not going to be taking any antibiotic pills. I'm not a fan of too many pills. I will, however, be looking for a prescription topical acne medication. So when I talk to my dermatologist, what are some topical prescriptions he might throw at me? I am 25, like I said, and just recently started breaking out due to hormones (we suspect). Skin apparently lik
  16. Hey guys im Mae! newly joined in! For once i finally get to say: FINALLY ON ACCUTANE WHOOHOO! Had been waiting for this since awhile now.. So for my Stats: Around 100lbs. Going in for 115-120mg/kg perhaps.. Mild-moderate superr-persistent acne history. Tho on/off but very unpredictable, painful, inflamed, resistant, & sucky. :/ So actually before going on accutane doc started me on some anti-androgen therapy (started spironolactone on Jan 21st).. since my testosterone levels were hig
  17. I quickly would like to mention what helped me with my acne. I'm 22 (female) and have had acne since I was a freshman in high school. After trying and failing with EVERY OTC medications avaliable (and very strong retin-a cream my general doctor gave me [it dried my face up SO bad I couldn't use it]), I decided to go to the dermatologist. They put me on atralin, acanya, and amoxicillin. After having major results I was SO happy. However, I still was having trouble with my chin acne. For my follow
  18. well the title says it all i have a derm appt tomorrow and i really do not want to start taking antibiotics because of everything ive read about resistance and when you stop taking it it comes back.. also i do not want any topicals because almost all have a bad IB.. which is why i really dont even use moisturizer.. plus almost all antibiotics take FOREVER to work from my readings on the org... so does any one have any advice for me they could spare.. im going to tell my soon to be new derm th
  19. I have had mild to moderate acne for a long time, occasionally cystic. It's often triggered by hormones, but not only. I'm 31. After all these years, I finally made an appointment with a dermatologist. I was expected (or hoping?) to get a retinoid prescription, since it's great for aging skin and it has really helped a few of my friends with acne. However, the dermatologist right away prescribed me Clindamycin as well as a daily oral antibiotic, which he said I would have to take indefinitel
  20. Dear all, I have been breaking out lately, for a month or so. I won't say it's anything severe but according to my dermatologist the acne I have is known as comedones. They're also not obvious unless clearly analysed. I went to visit my derm today and he prescribed me an antibiotic called Tetracycline, in 250mg. I am supposed to take 1 capsule during the day and 2 at night for a month. He claimed that I won't receive any side effects from this BUT when I did my research online, I re
  21. Okay I'm tired if hearing about this so called miracle pill, accutane, that supposedly gets rid of acne fast, and i see more negativity than success stories from it. Why are people turning to this kind of treatment for their acne? I see it as people being naive and wanting everything to go perfect when at the end it doesn't. If you're on this website aren't you supposed to be using the regimen? Please explain this to me.
  22. Hi, so I've been taking doxycycline 100mg twice a day for my acne. This last Thursday I started week 6, and there's still no improvement and I'm still getting breakouts. Could it be that doxy just isn't for me or does it take longer to start working. Oh and I was also using Tazorac as a topical but I didn't help so I switched to Retin-A that I had left over. It seems to be a little better THanks in advance
  23. I've been using retin-a for a about a month and twenty days. It did make my skin better, the texture of my skin and I don't really have any zits. But I have red marks from previous acne on my cheeks and temples, and this medication hasn't helped with that at all, it hasn't helped with acne scars either.. Do I just need to give it more time? Is this stuff going to make me have clear, smooth skin, with no redness or marks? Because that's what I want. Also, my skin only gets bad on the right side o
  24. Okay, I've tried everything and I'm getting really discouraged. Here's my current regimen: Wash my face in the morning using Purpose liquid cleanser, followed by Neutrogena's sensitive skin moisturizer, and then Epiduo as a spot treatment. I've been washing my face with this regimen for years. I just stopped using birth control and Spironolactone because they made my skin actually worse, not better. Before that, I've tried antibiotics, Differin, retin-a, clyndamiacin, many different washes, Proa
  25. So I've only been on a low dose of 25mg Spiro for 16 days now and for the past couple of days I've experienced sore and tender breasts on the under side of them, more than I usually would during PMS. I've heard that spiro can cause breast growth so was just wondering if this might be the case? I barely fill an A cup, always had oily skin and moderate acne since 10y/o and when I gain weight it always goes straight to my belly and face/neck. All of these are signs of high testosterone/androgens
