  1. hi, i started spironolactone [50 mg, 2x a day], prescribed by my derm, for my hormal acne about 10 days ago. i got a little bit of an initial breakout [only whiteheads, none of those nasty cysts] that's actually already beginning to dry up. the acne on my back has seriously diminished. i like what spiro's doing for my skin. the problem is that starting last night, i started having debilitating nausea. i was woken up by nausea in the middle of the night and felt so bad i sat hunched over
  2. I know that others have asked about tanning while on Accutane, but I've never actually seen anyone mention anything about the beach? I've been on Accutane before, but it was during the winter so I didn't have to worry about the sun. However, this is my second trial and now I live in Hawaii, so I am always at the beach or in the ocean, though Hawaii is on the equator, so it's closer to the sun. Will I have to stop going altogether? Or can I just douse myself in sunblock? What will happen if I
  3. I'm going the visit the dermatologist soon for the first time after reading up a bit on prescription treatments. The best option I have seen is Retin A, but I really don't want to go on it since I heard the purge can be horrible for many months. I'm willing to go on it if it will help, but are there any other alternative the dermatologist can prescribe that does NOT have a purging period? I don't want to have to go through a purge since I don't want to still be broken out because of it by the ti
  4. Hi! Yesterday I got prescribed a form of antibiotic called Lymecycline to help eliminate my minor-medium acne problem. I've been struggling with acne from around the age of 13-14 (I'm now 18) and so I thought that with university coming up, I should probably try and sort my acne out (as waiting for it to die out on its own hasn't done any good). 4 years ago -around the time my acne bombed my face and body- I was put on a liquid antibiotic that tasted a bit like paracetamol (I have no idea what
  5. From the album: Ziana, Solodyn, Aczone. (& OCPs)

In reality, my face is not usually so red. I took these pictures immediately after washing so that I could photograph my hyperpigmentation scars when they're agitated. It makes my progress easier to track when I can see how flaming red they are now... and hopefully won't be in the future . Other than those few huge ones, I hadn't had any flare-ups in a while. The rampage was over and I was finally healing. However, I wanted to see a dermatologist to make sure I keep the crazy under control
  6. Hi After stalking this site I have decided to sign up so I can finally ask for help about what to do with my acne. Here's a brief history of my skin: At age 10 I started to get blackheads around my nose and on my chin which have never gone away. Age 11- started getting the occasional whitehead, had constant white spots on the apples of my cheeks age 12- got lots of red spots on my forehead, chin, in the summer I developed chest and back acne which still remains. age 13- went on tetracycline

    NICADAN anyone?

Hi everyone, I visited a dermatologist today because I have been having some facial redness, and he said I could have rosacea, in addition to acne scarring. He prescribed a vitamin cocktail called Nicadan, which basically contains niacinamide and other vitamins & minerals (you can look it up for specifics). Apparently the combination and dosage is scientifically proven to work, so I'm willing to give it a go, although I'm not excited about some of the fillers in the capsule. Has anyone tried

    Day 59!

So I just had a really bad breakout on the right side of my face but I think its from a new product. My skin is still really dry and other than this break out my skin is really starting to clear up. I wish I had more to update but unfortunately I dont. I have to go to the dermatologist Friday and I hope everything checks out okay. Ill update you guys soon but I meant theres really nothing to share cause I think this is gonna take some time. Haha. If only you took it for a week and your ac
  9. Just got back from my one month follow up at the dermatologist. My dermatologist is pretty drab and to the point so not much discussion. She asked me my side effects, any mood changes, etc. After taking my contacts out last night, my eyes were so bloodshot I think from the dryness so she recommended liquid tears so I'll have to check those out. Other than that, I just answered my iPledge questions and just have to wait for my prescription to be filled and it is on to month 2! I hate to rush
  10. I am a 24 year old black female who has been plagued with acne and all that comes alongside with it for 10 years. After a gruelling battle with the NHS, I am now on my second month of the elusive prescription medication Accutane, or Roaccutane as it is referred to here in Europe. I thought it it would be useful to create this blog space on such a large platform for fellow acne sufferes here on Acne.org so it may be of use to anyone. Plus, I thought it would be good to look back on. Ok th
  11. Hi there. I'm an 18-year-old male who at the beginning of this year (January time) was prescribed an 8-week course of lymecycline for my moderate acne. This was the first time I had actively looked for medical help for my acne which I have been suffering from since I was 12. After about two weeks of using the drug (1 tablet a day) I began to notice a few more hairs falling when I was in the shower. I would say around 10-15 at first. I know that this is normal for many as we lose around a 100 hai
  12. Hi! I am new to Acne.org despite having acne for five years now. My acne started when I was 13 and I immediately started using salycylic acid and benzoyl peroxide on it. It worked to control my acne in the beginning but lost its touch after a couple years. Every year my acne got worse and I tried many natural treatments that I've pretty much exhausted. I didn't have good health insurance so it was hard for me to see a dermatologist. This year I saw one and he prescribed me Retin-A 0.05. I wear a
  13. Hey everyone. So I made an account after reading posts and topics for the past week. I got prescribed 2 different topical gels from two different dermatologists. One was benzaclin gel and the other was tactuo (epiduo). I am really torn as to which i should use. I have alot of black heads ( deep ones, small ones, inflamed ones) and once and a while ill get the occasional white head. But right now its blackheads and hyperpigmentation. I am a 19 year old black male. The dermatologist said th
