  1. Hi, I'm 25 and still getting acne. When I was 16 AND 21 I did Accutane. The first time, I had pretty clear skin for about a year or so, and in college the second time, I saw almost no satisfaction after a few months being off it. Anyone else have less than satisfactory results from Accutane? I'm back on an antibiotic (Doryx/doxycyclin). I can't be on coventional birth control pills anymore because of a migraine correlation, but I'm on the implant/Nexplanon. I'm really anxious to clear up my jaw/
  2. Hello fellow acne strugglers, This is my first post as a new member. I really just want to find a place to track down my daily struggle with acne and how it changes with the new medication I am on. I am currently taking 100mg of Spironolactone. I'm sorry if I start venting as I really have no where else to speak about my problems because no one seems to understand. Some background: Just like many members here, I have been struggling with acne at a very young age (13). I remembered that I was

  4. I have been using Tretioin for over a year now and for the most part it's been pretty great. I started out with the 0.25%, then the 0.05% and stayed with that for a while. I recently went through a whole winter always getting random big pimples (this never happened before) and believe me it was horrible. I went to the dermatologist around two weeks ago and he gave me the 0.1%. The first week was great, but then the purge started again. So, basically my questions are... 1) Have any of you exp
  5. So I decided to start a sort of log of my doxcycline experience, and also where I can get some help/advice. I have only been experiencing moderate to severe acne this past summer (for the past 3 months). I am 19, almost 20, and used proactive throughout high school. It kept my skin average, I never had perfect flawless skin but it was never that much of a problem (not nearly as bad as it is now). So at the beginning of June I decided to go off because my results weren't awesome and it's pric
  6. Hey I just joined acne.org this morning so please don't shout at me if I do/say something wrong. Please someone help me, I am using a prescribed topical solution called Zineryt and also some products I bought from boots by Clinique, La Roche-Posay Effaclar and Freederm. I cleanse and tone my skin then apply zineryt to the affected areas at least once a day. I am also now vegan to see if that helps my skin (most of my acne is on my chin/lower portion of my face so is apparently hormonal, while I
  7. Hello everyone! I have joined these forums just to talk about accutane! I'm an 18 year old female who has been avoiding accutane for as long as I could. Basic History: I basically have very oily, acne prone skin. I have especially larger pores on my cheeks near my nose. Throughout the day my makeup never last because my skin will get oily within a few hours. Anyways, my first bad break out was when I was in seventh grade nearing eighth grade. I had pimples mostly on my cheeks and forehead,
  8. I am compiling a list of doctors who prescribe spironolactone for acne. If you have received a spironolactone prescription, PLEASE share their name and the state/province they are located in. The only reason I was able to get spironolactone prescribed is because I happened to know someone already on it and went to their doctor. We really need to get the information out there so it is not such a struggle. If you don't want to publicly announce your doctor, PM me the doctor's name and loc
  9. I have just been prescribed 10mg Accutane for 3 months & Spironolactone (not sure how many mg's) as well and ongoing after I finish Accutane to control hirsutism/hormonal acne. Could anyone share their experiences on using both of these medications at the same time?
  10. I have been on the antibiotic minocycline for about three months now. I am fifteen years old and had terrible acne on my forehead. I have had this acne for about three years and it has seriously affected my self esteem. The Minocycline has produced fantastic results and after about two months my skin is 90% clear. My self esteem is incredible. I don't have to spend ten minutes trying to cover up my acne with makeup, only to wash it off and stay home. I don't even need to wear makeup anymore
  11. Hello everyone. Basically my situation is this: I have grown up jumping around to a bunch of different dermatologists, and I've been prescribed just about every topical and antibiotic medication in the book. I always used to have pretty bad acne on my face, but I've gotten that cleared up except for the occasional pustule, and blackheads on my nose. My biggest problems are my chest, shoulders, neck, and back. These areas of my body still have pretty big and often times painful pustules and c

  13. Hi everyone, I am a long time lurker and one time poster. I’ve so badly wanted to share my success story on here for years but things usually deteriorate right before I can. I feel like I have finally stumbled across the combination of things that are keeping me clear and I really hope it will help someone else. This is going to be big but I’ve broken it into chunks so you can jump to the info that interests you J Background: I started getting acne in seventh grade. My acn
  14. Hi I was recently prescribed clindmycin 1% twice daily and tretinoin 0.025% every other night. I've been using them for three days now on my really bad breakout(2 big cysts, a bunch of pustules on the temples, jaw, and forehead). So, I am wondering how long will it take until I can see some of those pimples go away or even for the purge to begin.
  15. So I had acne for 20 years. In that time I must have visited 9-10 dermatologists. I started suffering from acne when I was 14 and cured it on my own when I was about 36. And I swear each dermatologist gave me the same treatment, over the years and whatever age I was at. The treatment never varied, in spite of me telling them again and again that this did not work last time. I still remember driving back from the derm when I was 26 with my eyes full of tears because she had been arrogant and gi

    Sebrem Mr (Minocycline)

I was put on this tablet by my GP after a particularly bad breakout over August this year. I haven't much to say other than I was thoroughly disappointed. Pros: None. Cons: Did not clear spots. Made breakouts even worse. Recommend? No. This tablet made me breakout badly with cystic acne and worsened the already existing acne! Although I stuck to it for weeks in hope of improvement, there was none. I would definitely not recommend this.

I've been using retin-a for a about a month and twenty days. It did make my skin better, the texture of my skin and I don't really have any zits. But I have red marks from previous acne on my cheeks and temples, and this medication hasn't helped with that at all, it hasn't helped with acne scars either.. Do I just need to give it more time? Is this stuff going to make me have clear, smooth skin, with no redness or marks? Because that's what I want. Also, my skin only gets bad on the right side o
  18. Hello, so I am absolutely fed up with my acne. It is literally ruining my life - I cannot make eye contact anymore, I don't like having to go to school or any public places, and I'm just pleading for it to be over. I'm a 17 year old male with what some people would only call mild to moderate acne, yet it has destroyed my confidence (I apologize to those who have worse acne, I do not mean to offend you /: ) I have had bad acne for about 5 years, I first started off on a bunch of acne kits, and t
  19. Hello! I have been on Retin-A 0.1% for almost a year now. For the most part I've been very happy with it... but, I guess I'm feeling frustrated. about two months back i was getting foundation matched at the counter and the lady used what seemed like an alcohol makeup remover... or something along those lines. Anyways it gave me a chemical burn for a good week and I suffered from rashes all down my chest. So I kinda had to taper off the Retin-A to every other day so my face wouldn't hurt so bad
  20. well the title says it all i have a derm appt tomorrow and i really do not want to start taking antibiotics because of everything ive read about resistance and when you stop taking it it comes back.. also i do not want any topicals because almost all have a bad IB.. which is why i really dont even use moisturizer.. plus almost all antibiotics take FOREVER to work from my readings on the org... so does any one have any advice for me they could spare.. im going to tell my soon to be new derm th

    Ideas For Retin-A Micro Dryness?

My derm started me on Retin-A Micro. I've been on it for six days, and it's basically already worked miracles on my skin. Derm told me that if I can stand it I can use it morning and night, which is what I've been doing (though I'm allergic to certain chemicals like BP and SLS and anything wheat, my skin tends to be pretty much as tough as elephant hide). I've skipped maybe one or two mornings but other than that been really consistent. I wash with Hibiclens that has a few drops of extra glyce
  22. Hi, so I've been taking doxycycline 100mg twice a day for my acne. This last Thursday I started week 6, and there's still no improvement and I'm still getting breakouts. Could it be that doxy just isn't for me or does it take longer to start working. Oh and I was also using Tazorac as a topical but I didn't help so I switched to Retin-A that I had left over. It seems to be a little better THanks in advance
  23. Dear all, I have been breaking out lately, for a month or so. I won't say it's anything severe but according to my dermatologist the acne I have is known as comedones. They're also not obvious unless clearly analysed. I went to visit my derm today and he prescribed me an antibiotic called Tetracycline, in 250mg. I am supposed to take 1 capsule during the day and 2 at night for a month. He claimed that I won't receive any side effects from this BUT when I did my research online, I re
  24. Hi Acne.org Community! I'm new to the website and forum, but I'm seeking some advice here. I know most of you are experienced with the condition or have had some tremendous success working around it; hopefully you can help. Here's my story: I am 16 years old, I have type 1 diabetes, and I also have moderate acne. I get most of my acne on my cheeks, jawline, and body. My body acne, which actually was nonexistent until a few months ago, is crazy on my chest and shoulders (back area too). And
  25. Okay I'm tired if hearing about this so called miracle pill, accutane, that supposedly gets rid of acne fast, and i see more negativity than success stories from it. Why are people turning to this kind of treatment for their acne? I see it as people being naive and wanting everything to go perfect when at the end it doesn't. If you're on this website aren't you supposed to be using the regimen? Please explain this to me.
