  1. Hi everyone, This is my first post after many months of curious lurking. In January of last year I went on 3 weeks of board spectrum antibiotics and after my course was completed, started noticing strange itchy pinpricks that would come and go without rhyme or reason across my chest. This went on for a year before my GP suggested fungal folliculitis and gave me 3 weeks of Fluconazole at 100mg per day for 3 weeks. My PF started getting immensely better and I was overjoyed. I was very excit
  2. Well I finish my second course a couple months ago and recently started breaking out on my chin and neck so I went back to my derm today and he looked at me and said I want you on another month of Accutane. I dont think its the answer for my breakouts but then again I dont know what is. I also think I have pityrosporum folliculitis on my chest and forehead but my derm kinda blew that off because he said my breakouts on my chin and neck are too deep to be fungal. Anyway I guess Ill see how this g
  3. This is going to be a long post. A little background info, I have had acne since I was 10 years old, and I am turning 20 this year, finally with clear skin. I call the past 10 years the "decade of hell". I think we all encounter some kind of moment where we go, damn, I've had enough of this crap. And thus began my last ditch efforts to salvage my skin, which I am happy to say has finally become beautiful. Having lurked on this forum for years, I feel like its time for me to give bac
  4. I just finished a Z-pack antibiotic course last week for a mild bronchitis infection and started noticing a bunch of whiteheads and a mild rash pop up on my forehead, jawline, and neck earlier this week, but it seems to have gotten worse now towards the end of the week. I Has anyone else experienced this type of reaction from antibiotics use? I haven't made any recent changes to my diet or skincare regimen. Any feedback/insight would be appreciated - thanks!
  5. I have had these disgusting looking bumps for a month now and I'm desperate for them to be gone! The bumps started to appear after I used this cleansing oil. I've stopped using it for a month already but my forehead doesn't look any better. In fact, it has gotten worse! It doesn't look like regular acne to me since there's clumps of them and taking antibiotics/retin A for two weeks has not helped diminish the bumps. My bumps used to itch but now they don't really itch anymore. So, does it lo
  6. Hello. So I've had these bumps on my forehead ever since September so for about 4 months. I've tried everything. I thought they were whiteheads. I tried salicylic acid, chemical peels, epiduo, tazorac, turmeric masks, exfoliation, etc. NOTHING seems to get rid of these bumps. Like it's helped with my acne but these bumps are horrible. I read up a bunch on pityrosporum follicutis and maybe was wondering if this was the situation? Note: The reason why I have a bit of pimples on my f
  7. Hi, So I’ve had these skin coloured bumps for about 2 yrs and im yet to find a cure . They are not itchy like Pityrosporum folliculitis, they’re not usually red and they’re pretty small. I’ve never had other acne before, just this. The bumps are all over my forehead and some on my cheeks and chin. I’ve tried apple cider vinegar, salicylic acid, Glycolic acid, tea tree oil products, oil cleansing method, witch Hazel, even salt water, lemon juice and my latest hope was nizoral 1% shampoo whic
  8. All- I'll keep this short and sweet. Basically I just want to know, for those of you who have experience with/have seen it before, if you think this looks like pityrosporum folliculitis. Unfortunately I don't have insurance right now so I can't get it formally diagnosed by a doc. ;-/ If so, please help me out with your best treatments... I've heard Nizoral and H&S work well, but I'm worried that these might be too harsh for me skin. Anything gentler/quicker out there that you've t
  9. I was prescribed oxytetracycline for about 6 months 2 years ago for my acne on my forehead. It did clear my face at the time, but it just came back a few months later. Since then I have tried lots of topical treatments (decided to stay away from antibiotics as the last time it had severe impacts on my immune system) but none of them really worked completely. Now that I think of it, my condition doesn't look like the typical acne cases. Yes I do have pimples on some areas, but the thing that anno
  10. Hello, I don't really ever post, but I've been avidly reading everyones posts for a couple years now. I'm in serious crisis. I have attached a pdf that I sent to my last dermatologist that includes a detailed description of everything I'm going through, it also contains pictures. Please read the pdf and let me know if you have any ideas...my current derm still thinks I have pitryosporum folliculitis as did I but my mind is starting to change it has not responded to Ketaconazole 200mg 1 weekly
  11. Since about a year ago, I started to get off and on acne on my chest that would not respond to ANYTHING. It was so bizarre. I've had acne for 9 years even the most severe kind of acne (10 months of accutane didn't even help) but never did I get acne on my chest. So, I was doing some research and trying to rule out causes. The one potential cause that I've been over looking is fungus. How could I get a fungal infection? On my chest? Then I stumbled over pityrosporum folliculitis on the internet.
  12. Hi people, Okay so I'm really fed up with my acne. I try to stay positive but it's hard when all of my friends have clear skin or are just stopping to have acne while I have more pimples than ever now that I am 18. Lately I've been thinking my acne could be a fungus(pityrosporum folliculitis) , since I sweat a lot in my everyday life. The acne looks like small red bumps all over my chest and back, sometimes pustules. On my forehead, it's mainly flesh colored bumps and tiny pustules. I tried wa
  13. I started getting these small skin colored bumps about a year ago. They don’t go away and they’re like impossible to get rid of. I’ve tried everything and nothing works. Does anyone know what this is? I use all gentle products and i dont know what triggered this. hopefully someone can help
  14. About a month ago I started to break out, mostly with what looked like closed comedones. Before that it was nice and clear. I just used my salicylic acid wash and Lush tea tree toner. My skin has been fantastic for a long time except a couple pimples near my period. This recent disaster kinda happened while I was spending some time outside in the humid weather all day, sweating to death. By the end of those days my skin was oily as a bucket of slime and dry and flaky - yikes. Before I knew it, c
  15. From the album: Pityrosporum Folliculitis

Yes I did cure this! After 3 months of trying everything in the world, I discovered that this was Pityrosporum Folliculitis. It can be fixed by washing your face with Nizoral, an antidandruff shampoo. I saw results in 3 days. Read my forum post for my story.
  16. Hello I'm trying to treat my pityrosporum follicutilis with Nizoral shampoo applied daily. I am also taking a probiotic and oil of oregano daily as well. Does anyone know how long it will take the Nizoral shampoo to take effect? And does anyone have any suggestions of what else I can do? Thank
  17. Hello! I’m a 15 year old teenager with (sometimes) very dry, eczema prone skin, and oily mainly on my t-zone. I’ve had these small spots on my forehead for about three years but now my skin has hit an all time low. A couple years ago it used to be very small pimples on my forehead, which progressed be red and increased in number on my forehead (as seen on the photos, i miss my old skin so much). My spots tend to itch sometimes and looked a bit like whatpeople with pityrosporum had which is what
  18. I'm a 16 year old girl who has been suffering from mild-moderate acne for around a year (I know it isn't that long and that it's completely normal to have acne as a teenager because hormones but it is seriously wrecking my self-esteem). Around a year or so ago, my skin was completely fine. It was slightly oily but I suppose that is normal and I had a pimple or two on my face every now and then from eating greasy/oily foods or because of hormonal factors. I didn't use any facial cleansers and I o
  19. Hello, I have been a long-time acne sufferer, although most of my cystic acne has cleared up now. I recently developed these tiny papules (no whitehead, though) on my forehead and chin. These flared up almost simultaneously after a canoeing trip (it was very humid there). I continued to use topical antibiotics that I was using for the last ~6 months, but it did not get better. I tried steroid (1%, OTC), but that didn't work either. Here are the pictures of my forehead and chin: Could
  20. Hi, I've been applying Nizoral cream on my face to treat pityrosporum folliculitis for a few days and it seems to be working well. I understand the result is not permanent so I have been wondering how to maintain the result? How many times should I apply it per week when the result is satisfied? Is it safe to apply Nizoral cream on face continuously?
  21. Hi there! Lately my face has started itching along my hairline and chest. This could be because it's dried out from acne products (my skin is super oily but also dehydrated). Does this look like acne or is it possibly Pityrosporum Follicutlitis? I tried Nizoral but it didn't really help, neither did an anti fungal cream. The acne on my chest is also resistant to EVERYTHING and if I try to pop a spot it gets SUPER red and inflamed. If I do manage to pop any of the spots on my face, a white string
  22. I am so grateful for this website! Without it, I may still be dealing with one of the worst skin conditions I've ever had. I wanted to write this in the hopes that someone else can benefit from my situation. Starting in the summertime, I suddenly got hundreds of tiny little bumps all over my forehead. Assuming it was because of my bike helmet (I am an avid mountain biker), I washed my helmet and made sure to keep my skin clean. It did nothing to help my skin. Then, the bumps made the

  24. Can someone tell me what I have? Could I possibly have pityrosporum folliculitis? Because my acne treatment (1% Salicylic acid wash and moisturizer with some tea tree oil) doesn't seem to be improving it. It got really bad after going to a beach. I also use the Very Emollient Sunscreen from Alba botanica a lot which I don't know if that makes anything worse. Pics below. The oilier looking ones are my skin in its natural state and the other ones are from just after washing. Pls help. Peep the
  25. Hi Everyone, I was giving 3 weeks of fluconazole (Diflucan) at 100mg per day to treat my malassezia folliculitis. It all seemed to be working very well and I was maintaining it with Selsun Blue as a topical 3 times a week and a bit of tea tree oil in neem oil as a carrier. I had a couple days of antifungals left when I woke up this morning to find my chest completely flared and now (oh no!) my upper back has now joined the party. I had used Selenium Sulfide as an overnight treatment (an old
