  1. If someone knows about a fragrance-free lip balm(poweful enough to be used for accutane induced dry lips) , that does not have camphor or phenol or menthol, then please let me know. All the famous brands (carmex, blistex) do not fit this category. If there are some lesser known brands that fit this bill or if someone knows how to make one at home, please let me know...
  2. I am looking for something to add to my green smoothies I make in the morning. I purchased the Supergreen Powder from Trader Joe's for 19.99 and am wondering if the ingredients are good for skin, or if there is a better green powder you may know of out there! Prop. Antioxidant blend - 2010mg organic barley grass juice, chlorella, spirulina, alfalfa concentrate, ioinic trace minerals Prop Antiox blend 2000mg Organic carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, parsley powdered juices Prop
  3. So the more I'm looking into my own sensitivities to phenols and amines as they relate to other issues, including acne, the more I'm learning about their relationship with broader health problems (nevermind that salicylates, phenols, and amines are in practically everything). Having gotten nice and comfy in a place with my diet as it is, looking into these particular sensitivities was kind of alarming. Giving up tea and spices? A lot of fruits and vegetables? Coconut oil?! I haven't undergone a
  4. I thought I'd make a list of products that work best to fight acne and the cause of acne. Preventing Acne: Sebum Production Inhibitors/Suppressors: Topical: - Head & Shoulders Classic Clean Shampoo - No conditioner - HydraZinc: Zinc Carbonate & Zinc Pyrithione 1% Apply to areas and leave on for 5-10 minutes. Then rinse off. AM/PM or 3 times a day Note: You may wet skin prior to application. Reviews - DHS Zinc Shampoo - No Conditioner - Zinc pyrithione 2% New Heavy Artillary for our acne
  5. Hey guys, Just had a phenol peel. MAJOR downtime...around 9 days before you can really do anything. WELL worth it, though. Got rid of about 85-90 percent of crater like scaring which is mostly what I had Highly recommened, if done with the right doc. I went to the *moderator edit*!! Thanks
  6. We seem to have no area for things concering acne peels, more specfically AHA or phenol peels. Im going in for one tomorrow and dont know what to expect. Ive got some active acne on my upper lip and just one on my cheek, along with some scarring on my lip too. Should I expect good results? Id like for the peeling and redness to be gone by Friday, and the acne gone by Saturday.
  7. I just read this "chemical Bisphenol A (BPA) - a compound used in the production of plastics that damages the endocrine system," from a magasine. and Have looked it up it turns out drinking from plastic bottles can screw up your hormones and your thyroid function! I just can't believe we are being fed this poison, i drink from plastic almost daily! And now that i think about it, whenever i've gone on holiday where the tap water is undrinkable and i drink bottled I have big break outs! From now
  8. Hi acne.org. Yesterday while at the health store I picked up a box of roobois tea, because I've read about it's health benefits: "Pronounced "roy-boss" and means "red bush" in Afrikaans. Studies have shown this tea is comparable to green tea in the amounts of polyphenols it contains. It shows anti-mutagenic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral activity. Rooibos is totally pure and natural. It contains no colorants or preservatives. Rooibos helps delay the aging process! The
  9. Has anyone tried the exoderm peel? It is a phenol-based peel, so very strong. I'm considering seeing a top PS in Costa Rica who performs this peel on acne scar sufferers for 2,000 as opposed to 5,000 in the states. I have read very mixed reviews about this peel from past members. Anyone?
  10. Hey peeps, my name is Michelle. I have just turned 20 not too long ago. I used to have super amazing complexion that my friends always talk about. They always ask me: Michelle how do you get such nice skin? Well, truth is, my skin has not been that nice. When I was 9, I had tonnes of blackheads on my nose. For a 9 year old, that's pretty scary. My mom felt strange that I had blackheads at such a young age! So, I used clean and clear products up until I turned 14, when I first got my period. I s
  11. I just had a "eureka" moment, pondering HOW my body could have become so toxic that I would end up with all these hormonal problems... and suddenly I realized that I endured over five years of retainers, braces, etc. as a child -- ALL made from various types of metals, plastics, resins, epoxies, cements, etc. I remember breathing and swallowing so much weird dust and cement from all the gluing and drilling. Did anyone else have this experience as a kid? I would bet money that the materials us
  12. my doc does the tca peel, but not the cross. what is the difference, and is the peel still effective for some types of scarring? Also, how is it that the peel is safe for your face, but the cross shouldnt be put on the healthy skin due to possible more scarring? I read that if the doc gets some of the tca cross on the outer edges of the scar, it can cause more scarring. So does the peel do this too, but maybe it's less noticable? I forgot to ask, is a phenol peel more effective than a tca peel?
  13. There is currently a lack of enforcement and regulation by the FDA. And it's not just makeup! Its overall skin care, hair care, eye care, nail care, baby care, and oral care. Hundreds of ingredients that are proven to cause or influence diseases as serious as cancer could be in your everyday products. This is a cause for concern. You, as a consumer, have the right to know what kind of products you are using. Just what are those long-named ingredients, and more importantly, what do they do? Fin
  14. Hi everyone, I used 50% TCA from Loganwood to do a CROSS 2 days ago and I still don't have any scabs. Every scar frosted white, though... I wanted to ask for educated opinions on this because I've had CROSS done by a derm 4 times using 35% and my face always looked like there was a small cyst on each scar crossed for about a week. I was wondering if she mixed something in with the TCA like Phenol or A Jessners peel without telling me, and if this means that my scar tissue is now immune to a

  16. A lot of people on this board suggest that whole grains aren't good to eat. But this article seems to suggest otherwise Health-Promoting Potential Equal to or Even Higher than that of Vegetables and Fruits Research reported at the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) International Conference on Food, Nutrition and Cancer, by Rui Hai Liu, M.D., Ph.D., and his colleagues at Cornell University shows that whole grains, such as buckwheat, contain many powerful phytonutrients whose activit
  17. Right firstly i have mild to moderate acne scarring (supficially depressed) and extremly red . On a daily basis i use retin - a , this keeps the skin thinned, and pretty much gets rid of all signs of the dentted scarring , apart from about 5 of them. i could continue to do this for the rest of my life however i find it extremly drying, and some days im genuinely to busy to apply it (i get to tired and fall asleep). Id love a phenol peel - but im a big scarey cat, so opted for a TCA peel , as m
  18. Has this come up before? Anyone on it/tried taking it. I'm halfway through a "course" which i was taking for other reasons (oral/digestive system bacteria/infections)
  19. I have tried for 11 years to correct scarring. Some scarring is mild, other is moderate. I have tried the following: 2 dermabrasions phenol peel exoderm with dr rullan 5 blue peels about 6 tca peels 3 co2 laser treatments over the counter and prescription topicals: retin A, protein drops, vinegar, etc. collagen injection filler with dr. abergel bioalcamid filler after 9 years of working on this diligently and spending tens of thousands of dollars , wasting many weeks of my life from downt
  20. Even though I just started accutane I am intrigued by green tea extract's potential as an acne fighter. For those who don't know, the chemicals in green tea are known to inhibit dht, decrease imflammation (probably through cox/lox inhibition) and even have a slightly moderating effect on ppars (some research is contradictory on this point). I know you are not supposed to take fish oil and green tea at the same time since green tea directly inhibits the absorption of fat in the intestines. I woul

Coming Clean About Soap (and other personal products) Soap is one of those things we take for granted. But what is soap, anyway, and how does it work? Who invented it? Does it matter what kind we use? The answer to the last question is yes, it sure does matter, and that makes it worth knowing more about soap, as well as about the ingredients in our other personal products. HOW SOAP WORKS It all begins with water. Why won’t water just wash away dirt? Water molecules are made up of one oxyge

  24. I found this fermented Chinese Kombucha tea at Whole Oats and it is awesome! It's three dollars a bottle (!) and has a slight amount of alcohol in it but it tastes really good and is filled with probiotics (2 billion organisms), active enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants, and polyphenols. In addition to the raw organic tea it has blue-green algae, chlorella, and spirulina. It only has 35 calories per serving, 7 grams of carbs, and 2 grams of sugar. It also has 20% of daily intake per serving of V
