  1. So, my skin has been pretty bad for a while now, but the last few days it has gotten significantly worse. Then today, I got my period and now I'm laid up in bed with the WORST cramps, possibly an ovarian cyst. A little backstory... my mom and several other female relatives have PCOS. I'm pretty sure I do as well, though I've never had an x-ray to prove it, but my last OBGYN always referred to me as having it, and I've experienced (very, very painful) ovarian cysts a handful of times in the past.
  2. New blog so I can post photos! Duh! For your reference... this is me: Meet Natalie! Today at work...I'm dead. I'm so sleep deprived I have no idea how I'm still functioning. I ate and I feel sick. It's about 4pm. I'm ready to go home and sleep. I had to start this blog because my other one ran out of MB??? I don't even know. Ain't nothin' changed...Drinkin' tea...Workin'...YOU already KNOOOOW. photos with my hair down are last night and today with my hair up at work looking like death hah
  3. Sup! So im breaking out again, yeah im clueless as to why. I thought i could power through before, just by being on a strict diet. Yeah so i did everything, don't want to go into cause it's long and complex. Just rest assured i've tried it. Anyway i am on a diet now and yes i've been on it for a long time, yes i've seen good results. Lately however i've realized the acne horizons are broader and are unbelievably, a bigger, better, more complex pain in my bottom! (ass). So im not eating g
  4. Basically what the title says. Does Accutane cause PCOS? Has anyone developed PCOS after taking accutane? Or is PCOS caused by birth control? Is there a link of Accutane to PCOS?
  5. Hey guys, So I have been thinking about this for a while and I had an interesting thought..I came across posts where people claim that excess glucose in your blood leads to more insulin secretion which in turn gives you insulin spikes and thus acne. What if this can be controlled by deep breathing? Because when you breathe, doesn't the oxygen which is inhaled react with glucose in your cells to release energy? This would mean lower levels of glucose in your blood since you are breathing a lo
  6. After suffering from acne for many years, and trying everything, paleo diet, antibiotics etc etc, I am having success with a new diet, that treats insulin resistance properly. We know diet effects blood sugar levels, which in turn effects insulin levels and this effects androgen production, which effects sebum production which effects how bad our acne is etc. I tried to treat this using paleo, limited carbs high fat. It was too hard for me, I felt bad all the time, no energy etc. It was only unt
  7. Last night was the same mask as usual-- I tried the rosehip oil out finally, after the Argan and before the aloe. It's 5:55am right now and it's time to punch today in the face haha!! It's 10:25am right now...Work is KA-RAZZZZY. I'm going on my walk after I eat a snack. Yayyyy. its almost 8:30pm I'm going to lay down and rest I'm dead I'll deal with life tomorrow
  8. Hey y'all. Same ish as usual. Just working my butt off. For the past week or so, I have been taking my walk around the lake in the mornings usually at 10:45-11:45 or sometimes 11:45-12:45. Depends on how work is goin and if shit pops off. I've been getting good sun. The morning sun is the BEST. It's currently 93 degrees where I'm at. AND NO BREEZE LOL. I have not been putting argan oil on my face in the mornings-- just at night before I put on my aloe. So my routine for the past two nights ha
  9. Hey y'all, I haven't been posting as frequently as I used to because, well, you know how it goes. Hope you all had a happy Holiday & New Year's! I know I did. http://www.acne.org/messageboard/index.php/gallery/image/48231-new-years/ ("Get a room!") A lot of people I've asked aren't really into New Year's Resolutions. Actually I don't think I've heard many. I'm guessing either people don't want to be held accountable for promises they make to themselves or they prefer to resolve to mak
  10. Hi! Its been a while since i posted here. I went 2 months without eating any sugar or dairy and my acne stopped completely. I eat some fruit to see how i would react and 2 hours after eating fruit, my forehead would itch like crazy and i would get acne the next day. i know only eat sugar once a week. Its doesn't matter what type of sugar i eat-fruits, cane sugar, carrots, refined sugar, honey, etc.-sugar always break me out in acne. The supplements i am taking now that are helping somewhat
  11. Insulin resistance can contribute to acne, but I just found out that everyone may be more insulin resistant in the morning. It's called the dawn phenomenon. The dawn phenomenon, when blood sugar rises during the night, is related to the Somogyi effect, where blood sugar falls during the night. http://www.ncbi.nlm..../pubmed/6368151 That study says: "The observed increase in insulin in the early morning hours despite stable levels of glucose indicates a temporally increased insulin need in non
  12. Hey guys, so I'm new here. I'm kind of at my wits end with acne. I want so badly to be 100% clear all the time, not 99.9999% SOME of the time. Let me fill you in on my acne history: Acne reared its evil head(s) sometime shortly after my first menstrual period during the summer of my 12th birthday. Middle school was absolute hell, both for my face and my social life. The acne was, I'd say, mildly severe, mainly localized on my cheeks, forehead, and around my lips. It remained this way through m
  13. I haven't posted here in 3 years, so I thought I'd share what I've discovered through reading, research, personal experience/anecdote and testing. I really believe and hope this post will help some of you, or at least give rise to new perspectives and ideas. Anyway, as we know, an overproduction of sebum is the beginning of a chain of events that can lead to acne. We also know that diet can elevate insulin levels which can also cause an overproduction of sebum. So the question is, what diet is
  14. hello diet-dwellers! i am sure u're aware of the effects of cinnamon on our insulin level and blood sugar level. i would thank sleptember ,for i 1st got a fair idea about the results cinnamon has on us. i searched a lil' more and what i understood is "cinnamon acts as insulin inside and thus, doesn't allow an insulin-spike and also, takes care of the sugar in the blood. what i am concerned about is the side effects of cinnamon(or negative effects). i can talk about it causing ulcers/sores et
  15. Hey y'all. Happy thursday! I did not take my N-A-C this morning. And I'm going to be taking a break off taking that, for a little while. I ate like 10,000 calories today. Not really more like 2700 but I walked over 5 miles for sure because I charged my phone so I didn't have it on me for an hour and I still walked almost 5 miles today. Plus most of those calories are from nuts lol, deeeeez nuts. im looking into what it takes to be a paralegal. So yeah, that's what ya girl Natalie is do
  16. I've been lurking for two years, but finally decided to make an account because I've got something to say: I'm clear, finally. After 12 years of struggle, I now know how to control my moderate acne. In October 2011, I started eating a strict paleo diet and it cured anxiety/depression, improved my general well-being, and minimized acne. Paleo minimized but did not stop acne completely because I was not addressing an important underlying health issue: insulin resistance. Typical symptoms:
  17. A log to keep track on my progress with inositol (myo-inositol). You're welcome to follow and give inputs/questions. Starting a new thing for my mild hormonal acne, that has been quite persistent lately, after I've started purposely skipping periods (I got an idea from my gynecologist who claimed it could help me balance my hormones), but acne has been increasingly worse ever since I started with continuous bcp throughout the whole cycle. Other side effects been breakthrough bleeding, obviousl
