  1. So heres the story, Im now 23, skinny, white male. Ive had acne since a teen and went on docycycline for about a year which barely worked after a month and when I stopped using it my back got really bad. So I went on accutane which was great and cured all my acne, however a few months after I started to get a few small pimples on my scalp which I never used to get and now its worse and gets really itchy. So anyway, I started using T/Gel for my scalp which kind of worked but pretty sure the coal
  2. I HAVE to share an experience that has been surprising to me but that I hope will help others. Please share with those you know who have ongoing acne on their chin. For YEARS -- perhaps, geez. 15? -- I have suffered from chin acne (BTW, I'm 51, female). Whatever it is -- vulgaris, adult, hormonal, nodule, cystic, whatever -- it has been so frustrating and ongoing that I have tried everything under the sun to manage it. If I couldn't get rid of it, I would be content with just covering it up
  3. I started taking Nizoral shampoo (active ingredient ketoconazole) a couple of weeks ago. I think around the 22nd of October. So it's been a couple of weeks now. I think it's an anti-fungal and anti-dandruff shampoo and i have been using it on my face and scalp after a shower. I remember seeing it being mentioned as somehow working for acne as well, i think it is supposed to be a DHT inhibitor, or something like that, it can reduce sebum production maybe. I have never bothered with it in the
  4. Hi there. I felt strongly that I need to share this information with anyone who may have had the experiences I've had with acne. Perhaps this has all been mentioned somewhere before, but the overwhelming information I'm seeing isn't including what I've learned, or at least not in full. I am a medical laboratory scientist, currently working toward postgraduate degree(s) in molecular & cellular biology and molecular pathology, respectively. Despite my initial disinterest in microbes during
  5. I have tried using BP constantly, several times a day at 2% even 10%. It helped, but ever got me clear, particularly on my forehead. I also had folliculitis on my chest (red bumps) where BP had no affect. After a lot of on-line research, I started to believe I had fungal folliculitis or "candidiasis". From what I read, if you drink a lot of alcohol like me, or have taken antibiotics (I'd had some for an STD), you kill off the good bacteria and the yeast takes over. This made sense, because B
  6. One day I woke up with these small forehead bumps all over my forehead, my temples and all the way up until my hairline. I have no idea what to do. I have tried almost everything in the past two months. Anti-dandruff shampoo (severely dried out my skin and didn't improve the bumps), cetaphil gentle skin cleanser paired with a lightweight oil-free moisturizer, the Kiehl's line (midnight recovery, Calendula toner, etc) manual and chemical exfoliating products (ie peter thomas roth glycolic acid pa

    Fungal acne !?

Hi So I've had skin problems on and off since I was 13 years old and now I'm mid twenties. Some days my skin is clear I'll have some blocked pores which never go away but in terms of actual bumps and pimples I can be clear most of the time. I'm starting to think I might had fungal acne, they can be small closed pimples that never come to a head but are red and not painful, or little whiteheads that always come in groups mostly on the forehead and cheeks but if you out pop one it Just spreads
  8. About 4 years ago I started getting these bumps on my forehead and ever since, nothing has worked for them except accutane. They never seem to go away, and I can no longer be on accutane because of the side effects. I have searched forums and such for help, but it seems like no one else's is quite like mine. Any ideas? Is this even acne? Could it be fungal? I've attached a photo, any help would be great'
  9. As you can see from the image I have these weird tiny bumps all over my upperlip and chin. Usually if i press them a thin white string substance comes out. I have been on acne medication and creams to get rid of them, but nothing works? I also went to a dermatologist who injected something into the big one that is red in the picture around 1 year ago, however it only went away for 2 weeks and then it came back. Sorry the pictures not great. Any advice would be great!

    Help!please!

what i want to know, desperately, is why am i suddenly have small but red angry white headed zits on one of my cheeks. some of them do slightly itch sometimes.not all. am also having teeny-tiny whiteheads on the same chick. and today i had a new one..the place itched for quite some time and then after a while i noticed i have a red head there. i anyway have many spots/PIH on that part of my face and now this. **it could be heat(i spent cooking hours one in the kitchen, its summer here)
  11. I'm 22 and I've only just started to get acne. I'm beyond frustrated. I've seen a dermatologist who told me I don't have a rash, just minor pimples. According to him, my redness on my cheeks and nose is "from being fair skinned". I know I have hormonal related acne on my chin, but these burning/itching dots on the sides of my face are completely new and I have no idea what to do or put on them. I'm terrified they won't go away. Does anybody know what this even is? is this fungal? I haven't bee

    Not Acne?

okay, I don't even know how to put this. I basically have been thinking that I don't have acne, or maybe I do but that I have this condition called Pityrosporum foliculitis. I have been researching it all day and alot of the pictures look exactly like whats going on with my face. But obviously I don't know for sure. I have thought this before too. My face is pretty congested. I have actually been using differin, this is my 5th week but I have noticed it now getting worse, and I am experiencin
  13. i get itchy raised red patches(almost like allergy ) ,which sometimes feels like red spread bumps or some other times its just a red skin area that itches..they remain for sometime and go away. they generally tend to happen in similar or same places.like the middle area of forehead, near the eyebrows, around my nose or so. i think they are fungal(many have suggested here that they might be fungal folliculitis)...i'm not sure as well. since they go away by themselves almost everytime ,its dif

What's going on with my face?!

Hi, I used to have cystic acne but really smooth supple soft skin. Went on doxycyline for about 10months in 2012. Over the years I started to develop weird texture on my forehead with small spots. This has spread over to both my cheeks, in particularly the nasobial fold areas. My skin used to be very oily, it still can get oily during mid day. However, my skin lookss very dehydrated I also have sebum plugs too which I never used to have. I literally have small tiny spots all o
  15. For the past 2 years I have had continued bouts of fungal acne/folliculitis that I manage to clear up using Head & Shoulders shampoo. It usually starts out on my neck and moves to my face or chest. Once I clear it up with the shampoo (for some reason Lotrimin hasn't worked as well as the H&S) it goes away for a few weeks or a few months, but it ALWAYS comes back. It's so frustrating! I assume this means I need to be taking some kind of supplement to keep it from returning, but I don'
  16. Hi, I've been applying Nizoral cream on my face to treat pityrosporum folliculitis for a few days and it seems to be working well. I understand the result is not permanent so I have been wondering how to maintain the result? How many times should I apply it per week when the result is satisfied? Is it safe to apply Nizoral cream on face continuously?
  17. If I understand correctly, acne is caused by a bacteria (P. acnes). Right? So... why do we say "everyones skin is different"? While I'm sure we all vary we're not THAT different. In fact, it seems the only thing that really varies between us as individuals is our sensitivity to dryness and irritation. FACT: Benzoyl Peroxide kills P. acne by creating oxygen where bacteria can't live. ANYONES skin. It can't not work (at killing the bacteria). FACT: While bacteria can develop res
  18. Hello, I have been a long-time acne sufferer, although most of my cystic acne has cleared up now. I recently developed these tiny papules (no whitehead, though) on my forehead and chin. These flared up almost simultaneously after a canoeing trip (it was very humid there). I continued to use topical antibiotics that I was using for the last ~6 months, but it did not get better. I tried steroid (1%, OTC), but that didn't work either. Here are the pictures of my forehead and chin: Could

    Hello

Hello everyone, just introducing myself and why i'm here. i am a 40 year old woman who has suffered with spots since i was about 11, I went to the doctors when i was a teenager and had lots of different lotions, washes and creams. nothing seemed to work. Then in my twenties they did seem to ease up a bit and i just lived with it. about 7 years ago i got a strange spot on my cheek which wouldn't go away it took about 9 months for it to heal and left a red mark on my cheek. Then about 18 mont
  20. Okay so, I have pityrosporum folliculitis(fungal acne all over my face) is there a way to cure and get rid of this forever? I havent had this problem before and only got it after putting on topical antibiotics on my face for a few months. Do you think that folliculitis will go away if I leave my skin alone? What if I use nizoral twice a week, will it go away? Probiotics, do they cure pityrosporum folliculitis? Also, is dehydrated skin normal for fungal acne? I would rather be more thankful if my
  21. Hi there, my name's Jane and I'm a 24 year old female. I have been battling acne since I was a teenager. It started out with some red spots and over time, it has slowly gotten worse to the point where not only is my face always inflammed, but the texture is bumpy and uneven. I have a feeling my skin is as bad as it is now because of a combination of things: hormones, from picking at my skin, overuse of products, usage of well water as I live in a rural area, and perhaps some sort of fungal t
  22. Firs of all, I don't know if this is the right forum topic but I didn't know where else to put it so sorry If I'm in the wrong place haha. So here is my long and frustrating story. I have had fungal folliculitis on my chest for more than 2 years now. The first few months I tried all kinds of home remedies such as body washes, tee trea oil, dandruff shampoos etc. Everything seemed to work a little but never enough to clear it up. After all that, I went to a GP and over the course of almost a
  23. I have battled with less than perfect skin for years and never really knew what was wrong with it until I quite recently diagnosed myself with malassezia folliculitis and sought to treat it following some thorough advice on the internet. It has been responding to my current regime of a Nizoral shampoo face mask that's left on for 10 mins prior to washing off, Avene tolerant moisturiser then Lamisil and Ketoconazole cream on top. It has been two weeks and although marginally improved I feel
  24. so I had a really awful breakout in August- whole face was covered in cystic acne, literally my whole face in just two nights. I panicked and read about Hibiclens, an antibacterial wash used in hospitals. it worked very quickly to rid me of all the cysts and inflammation and I was just left with red marks. in order to clear the the cysts I washed my face with hibiclens about 4 times a day at times leaving it on for an hour then washing it off with NO MOISTURIZER. (I know, awful for my skin) now
