Background: I am 33 years old and have been struggling with some form of acne for as long as I can remember. I have a family history of acne on both sides. My Mother's acne was a mild form and was cystic in nature, but well managed with birth control and antibiotics. She was/is beautiful and I really never noticed she had a problem. She said it finally subsided when she went through menopause. My Father is in his 60's and still has blackheads and enlarged pores on his nose and consistently
  2. i have rosacea and horrible [closed] comedonal acne almost all over my face and also my entire face but mainly cheeks and jaw are covered in irregular red spots, these are not from acne (i almost never have pimples, the only ones i am getting, rarely, are little whiteheads and that's all, for me everything is pretty much under the skin and mostly on forehead, nose and chin, cheeks are p clear) it's more like a rash but i had it for so long i don't even know when exactly it appeared, it looks so
  3. I am creating this log (also created as a blog entry) in hopes that it helps others. I was blessed with nearly-perfect skin my entire life, until the age of 23. I began having occassional breakouts, mostly on my chin around my mouth, and visited my first dermatologist. These minor breakouts seemed like a big deal to me at the time, since I had never experienced this before. I was prescribed Duac. Within 1 month, my face was crystal clear once again. Using duac as needed kept me clear for almost
  4. So I'm using Tetralysal/Lymecycline again now and my GP wanted me to stay on this and Finacea for 4-5 months. Its been a month and I don't think any major changes have occurred. What are your experiences with Finacea, Lymecycline? What product (any product that you used for acne) do you think worked the best and how long did you use it for?
  5. I've been dealing with acne since I was twelve. I recently just after my wedding started to break out pretty bad... (thank god for clear skin on my wedding day!!!) I started to break out on my honeymoon in Cancun. I was preparing myself to break out because I was in a humid climate and I come from a very dry climate. Usually I get red bumps and cysts but on my honeymoon they were white heads Ever since my honeymoon I have had deep dark red spots that remained after my zits (and ongoing
  6. I started having mild acne around 12 or 13 years old that slowly progressed into unbearable, painful, ugly cystic acne. No makeup helped (only made it worse) and my self esteem was abysmal. I'm not selling anything (you can look back at my posts from YEARS before), and I'm not even saying this will work for everyone, but I wanted to post what is working for me. Maybe someone has the sam kind of acne as I do, and this might help. But before I tell you what has FINALLY worked for me, let me show y
  7. If you haven't seen my first post** A blog documenting my returning cystic/nodular acne after 2 rounds of accutane. Considering a third but hopefully I don't have to get to that point again. Makeup tips for the ladies. Hopefully reading my posts helps you get through your acne struggle. _________________________________ After a happy derm appointment this Monday who noticed my cheeks were looking much less inflammed at the end of the week - things kind of did a 360 when I felt my c
  8. Hey everyone, About a year and a half ago I finished a 6 month course of low dose accutane (10mg/day at first, 20mg/day later on) which left me with severe, debilitating flushing. I had cyclic flushing which would occur every single night from around 7 pm to 12 am for around a year post accutane. It would also occur out of this time period if evoked (warm rooms, anxiety, etc.). It was extremely debilitating and affected every waking moment of my life during that year. Luckily I study bi
  9. I have been told by my doctor that although there is no evidence that using azelaic acid during pregnancy should harm the foetus/breastfeeding child (especially in comparison to things like retin a etc) that she thinks I should stop using finacea if I chose to get pregnant.... just in case. I was very distressed by this as I have just found out that I have endometriosis and so I won't want to leave pregnancy for too long if I decide to have children (I have booked in to see a counsellor to d
  10. From the album: 5 Months with Ziana & Solydyn

5 month after using Ziana at night, Finacea in the morning, and Solydyn once a day. I didn't use Ziana nightly because it irritated my eczema. I used Finacea even less, and Solydyn almost daily.
  11. Hello everyone! I first registered here back in 2008 -- this is a new username, I forgot my old one and I'd only posted with it a few times. I lurk here several times a year to see if anyone has found a cure for their oily skin issues. My moderate-to-severe acne, severe oily skin, and excessive facial sweating issues started at the age of 17 and a half. Before then my skin was perfect in every way, so because my only sibling had been experiencing acne since the age of 15 I was convinced
  12. Hi all I have been suffering with acne since I dropped BC in april. I’ve been prescribed Finacea a month ago, and I have been really happy with it until I realized, that it made my facial hair a lot longer and more visible! I have always been a hairy girl, so I’m really sad, that it has gotten worse! I’ve stopped using Finacea, so I hope, it will go away again. But have you got any experience with it? Will the longer hairs disappear, once I’ve stopped using the Finacea gel?
  13. Since becoming pregnant and having my son the sides of my chin have gone nuts, from my hormones being all over the place. Now I am mostly dealing with small whitehead bumps, some of which are flat, that sit on my face forever and then become inflamed and come to the surface, or rarely, dry up and flake off. My question is, how do I get rid of them? I've been using Finacea for a week, but don't know if it works on clogged pores as I read conflicting reviews. My derm also gave me samples of Ac
  14. I have had acne since freshmen year of high school and not just acne BAD cystic acne. Freshmen year of college I used benzaolyl peroxide with a moisturizer and tanned a few times at my local tanning salon and ALL of my acne was gone. I was acne free for aboout 9 months until the summer when it slowly came back when I tried a new regime. I quickly tried to go back to just using the benazoly and it did not work and my acne came back more and more until around decemeber 2013 when I started using a
  15. I wanted to tell everyone about my results with my current regimen, and see if anyone can give advice from here. I tried a lot of things, including BP, clindamycin, doxycycline, tretinoin, differin, sulfur sulfacetamide wash, etc. This is what I've used for the last year: AM: Purpose Face Wash Duac Cerave Moisturizer (SPF) PM: Purpose Face Wash Differin Clindamycin Lotion Cerave Moisturizer Before: I started with moderate acne, and typically had ~10-15 active spots, with a mixture of whiteh
  16. I have been hovering in these boards but decided to take the plunge and join. Brief acne history- had acne since 15, now 31. Went on Dianette at 18 which worked for a few years then in mid 20s got really bad acne all over my chin and jawline. Went on Oxytetracycyline with Dianette which worked wonders very quickly. Took this for 4/5 years. Everytime I tried to stop, jaw would break out in cysts. Then when I hit 30 in 2013 I started to suddenly get cysts all over and around my nose. Never had thi
  17. Okay, here goes. All my life, I've had great skin up until about the age of 20 and began having on again off again periods of hormonal acne. Usually going on birth control would clear it up completely and I haven't had acne for about three years. So around this time last year I developed an itchy bumpy red rash around my nose and was diagnosed with perioral dermatitis. Easy fix! Doctor gave me Finacea in the am and Elotone and night and the rash was gone in less than a week. Fast forw
  18. Hello all, I’m new to acne.org. I’m so excited I found this community that offers help, support, and advice from people experiencing the same issues I am, I’m so glad I’m not alone in this. I have suffered from acne since my late twenties and the last two years my acne has gotten worse. It has taken my confidence away. All I want to do is hide in my room, so no one can see me. I have been suffering from cystic acne along with blackheads and whiteheads all along my jawline and forehead. My derm h
  19. I was so anxious and stressed for no reason. I forgot how wonderful my derm is. I feel like she actually listened. Because my skin is so sensitive and she didn't see any active pimples today (I'm having a good day), she prescribed me Finacea, a natural ish cream to help with redness, which is really my main problem. She said it can take up to 4 months to start to see improvement, but as long as its gentle, I really don't mind. I asked her if it could be hormonal because its just so strange
  20. Hi all - First, a little background: I'm currently a sophomore in college and never had too much of an issue with acne except for a moderate breakout here and there until my freshman year. I began to have acne on my forehead, a place I had never struggled with before, about a year ago. I had been on Minocycline throughout 11th and 12th grade which worked great, but it was this time last year that I began to have some nasty side effects. I then went on Doxycycline from last spring until this
  21. From the album: Isolaz+Laser Genesis

I'm currently taking Minocycline 100mg. The doctor gave me Finacea. It made my skin worse, it gave me pimples on the area where I didn't have pimples before. And it's too irritating for my skin. So I had to stop. I just got Isolaz consultation today and they said I'm a candidate since I'm taking antibiotics and I'm not using anything that is making my skin sun sensitive. (the skin would burn if you are using accutane, benzoyl, acid, retinol) http://pimpleapocalypse.blogspot.com
  22. I'm currently using Doxycycline and Aczone as antibiotics, and I was on Atralin until I realized it was exfoliating to the point of digging up previously healed atrophic scars! Therefore, I stopped using it. I told my derm, and she said she couldn't see the scars too well and they should 'fill in' nicely. Whatever there. But she prescribed me Finacea instead. Gathering from what I've heard, it's good for rosacea and acne...but it sorta does the same thing as a retinoid, right? It exfoliates the
  23. First a little background information · Girl, currently 19 years old · Started getting acne around 14 years old · Dry, sensitive skin + large pores (the most ironic combination) · Few big ones on my forehead or near my mouth / chin, never my cheek, often pretty deep with no head + ooze for a really long time · Doctor prescribed me clindoxyl(Benzoylperoxid/Clindamycin), did not do much but irritate my skin · Dermatologist who put me on lymeceline pills (two years ago), helped with the infl
  24. Hello, I was just prescribed Finacea. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this? I'm worried about if it will clog my pores or cause purging. I've attached photos of my current condition
