  1. Hi everyone thank you for taking your time to read this. In this article I will keep saying me because it worked for me. We are all different. But this might help you! so let's start! Little background first: I am 23 years old. My skin had lots of acne from the age of 20 till the age of 22. I lived in Florida. This is what helped me to get rid of my acne. There are 3 factors that played a roll in my acne. 1. Food 2. Products 3. Stress Food is a big part! what you eat, is who you are. Do eat: green leafy vegetables (try to add them to your diet) (Broccoli, kale, spinach, salads etc.) When making a salad use Olive oil and Balsamic) do not use creamy dressings most of the time they contain dairy. When cooking food use Olive oil instead of butter. Do not eat: Dairy, try to avoid any dairy! (cheese, milk, ice cream, yogurt, butter, cakes, Cream cheese, sour cream. ( especially the last two!) Instead of using Milk use soy milk or almond milk, great substitutes Do not eat : greasy foods like (fried Chicken, French fries, chips anything fried) Avoid big chain fast food restaurants. No dairy No greasy food Products: Clean your face 2 time a day. Don't over do it. Morning and night Try not to wear any make-up this will irritate your skin, If you do clean before doing this. What you might already have / what you need: 1. St. Ives apricot scrub (sensitive version) around $2,99 2. St. Ives timeless skin moisturizer around $ 4,96 3. Alcohol free toner around $4.00 4. Cotton pads $1,99 5. Aveno sunscreen 70 SPF (since I lived in Florida) $ 10,99 6. Clinic liquid face wash for men or women. $16,50 Morning: Clean your face with the scrub in the shower with warm water. Use the scrub once a day. Pad dry with clean towel. After that use the moisturizer. done! For the morning Night: In the shower use Clinic liquid face wash, pad dry, moisturizer. Done for the night. When going in the sun: use sun block Stress: Try to take moments of relaxation! In this busy world make time for your self! Drink a cup of green tea! (Lots of antioxidants). Take a stroll down the park or go for a early walk on the beach. (go in the ocean sea water is good for your skin). Relax relax and be positive. Please take it slow. You have probably tried everything! Like me! Try to stop eating dairy and fried foods. See if it gives any improvement. Stay on track because clear skin will not happen over night. I will give it 2 weeks for improvement. One other recommendation is buy only good foods. So when you are at home you don't have the temptation of the bad foods, because they are just not there. As of today I still do not eat any dairy. Best of luck, hope to hear some reactions soon. And reviews in a minimum of 2 weeks. Let me know if it works for you
  2. Okay so I got this cluster of tiny pimples by my nose (as you can see in the picture, sorry gross!) How do I get rid of these within a week!? I have a music festival to go to and it's going to be really hot so i'm hoping to not have to wear makeup :/ Some appear to be whiteheads but they're impossible to pop. They just keep filing up with more gunk after I attempt to pop them because I cannot get everything out. I just want to dry them out so I can put on moisturizer and they can go away! Some of them are just inflamed without heads. Should I try to bring them up by steaming or something? Most pimple treatments that I usually use aren't working on these tiny stubborn whiteheads. Helpp!

    Picked skin!

I had a pimple, which i popped. I picked the skin around the pimple and kept picking it! 2 weeks later I let it dry out but it wasnt my skin tone it almost looked purpley so i picked the skin hoping it will grow back normally but it hasnt! One of the splotches will not seem to heal fast and the other will never dry out. Please help, anything i can put or use to heal it please!
  4. So I have what I would consider moderate acne. Certainly not nearly as bad as some people have it, but I definitely have trouble skin. I also have mild to moderate eczema, usually mild. Been struggling with acne for about 4-5 years. Went vegan because of it 2 years ago and have been eating about 80-90% raw for the past 2 months or so. Although my skin has improved, it is far from perfect and I am quite insecure because of it. Recently I decided to do some grape fasting (went about 2 days, broke it, then went for about 4.5 days). I finally got fed up when looking in the mirror that I decided I need to do a water fast and be serious about it. I am also interested in seeing what this will do for me mentally and spiritually, but the drive behind this water fast is to nearly or fully eliminate my stubborn acne. I just finished my 50th hour of the water fast, I feel I need to go at least 14 days, and I am aiming for 21 days. I have been avoiding the mirror during the fast as I believe it will only get me down looking at my skin. I just got home, and decided to look in the mirror and my skin has gotten a lot worse (I also have redness around and in the corners of my lips). It's more aggressive than my regular breakouts and is on parts of my body where I am usually or nearly acne-free. Just a few days ago I recall looking at my chest and remarking on how clear it was, and right now it is breaking out. It is odd but I actually embrace this for the most part, as I truly feel I am in the beginning stages of detoxing. Although it has only been 2 days, I think the detoxing had began to start before the water fast because of the grape fasting I did, combined with the 50 hours of water fasting so far. I am drinking spring water (bought in 5 gallon jugs from a spring 3 hours from my city, tested with a ph of 7.95 and an overall great source of natural water, unlike tap or bottled water). I am hoping for any testimonials from people who have water fasted to clear their acne, I would love to hear your story. Especially in regards to detox breakouts like the one I believe I am having. If there is anyone currently on a water fast to clear their acne, i'd love to know how it is going!
  5. hello friends! holistic living and healthy diet is known to have a positive effect on us,acne sufferers. so having a balanced diet and having an active life(both physically and mentally) is important. also eliminating food items that cause u problem is a must.(different people seems to have different intolerance..so don't go by what others are following.check for yourselves what suits you and what doesn't but make it a point to share your unique experiences and ideas/concepts.it'll not only help others in practicing the better routine and gaining inspiration but also give you the due encouragement and thumbs-up. personally,i feel very relieved and at peace when my fellow bloggers/members here discuss and suggest things or approve of what i'm up to.) now, here comes a tricky(am not sure if it's a grave issue to discuss) question! but i'm pretty sure that many of us have the same question in our mind. we all wanna know how much or how long to carry on to see some positive results. with food and diet, 1) how long should we eliminate a food item? 2) how long after maintaining a balanced diet do you think body comes back on the right track? 3) does small tricks and home-recipes detox or cleans the system sufficiently?or are drastic measures always needed for one and all? (things green tea, lemon water, some say oil pulling, fasting or simple/raw food does help they say!) as for lifestyle, 4)BIG QUESTION EVERYWHERE : how long should regular(or 3-4 times a week in most cases) exercise or yoga(asanas, meditation, pranayama etc) take to show results? (i'm not talking about losing weight, which people think is so obvious.i understand why! but the overall health benefit like relaxed body and mind, quality sleep, quality skin and overall health) 5) how long does it take to come back on right track of life if all aspects including a good diet, proper sleep, proper lifestyle is maintained? 1 week? 2 weeks? 1 month? 6 months???! what do you think? this post is for discussion. u can add your valuable comment.whatever you feel is right. with or without any try or evidence.=) please add your comment. i'm positively eager to hear from you all.also, add anecdotes if u have any. aana
  6. Hi everybody! Thanks to this website I was able to kill off all of my acne and ever since then I have never had a break out ever again (except for the occasional random pimple) I was 18 at the time and I didnt have a credit card so I couldnt buy the products for the Regimen online and I had to use whatever I could get my hands on at the local drugstores. I looked for similar products and they worked amazingly!!! Im so thankful I found this website! Also, the moisturizer I had started to use actually helped to gradually fade my acne scars, which are now almost completely gone! I have a video that tells you all about my journey and the products I used! I really hope this helped because it was a miracle worker for me! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kM0FFyPBvc&feature=plcp

    How I Cleared My Skin!

Hey. I'm new to the site, but now I'm finnaly clear I wanted to share with others how I did it so they can (hopefully) achieve the same fantastic results that I did! I started getting acne at around 16 and it had flared up to pretty moderate/severe cystic acne by the time I was about 17. I took minocycline for a while and started using benzoyl peroxide cream in the form of 'Quinoderm'. I did see results after a few months, but the benzoyl peroxide was far too harsh for my skin and, although it cleared it some, it left my skin red raw and mostly very dry. It also seemed to bleach my skin which I felt made me look ill most of the time! I saw real results, however, after I started using a product recommended by a friend: "African Black Soap". Apparently it's been used for years by people in West Africa as a remedy for skin problems. I don't know why it isn't more widely known as the results I have seen from using it are second to none. It is totally organic (made from shea butter, coconut oil, cocoa pod ash etc) and therefore contains none of the harsh chemicals that were in the store bought products I used previously. It dries out the spots so you can literally "peel" them off after a few days and underneath is new, clear skin. My acne has gone from moderate to 100% clear after just 6 weeks using it. I also eat a healthy vegetarian diet, take flaxseed oil capsules and drink INFINITE cups of green tea! I don't know if this helps or just acts a s a placebo because it makes you feel like you are being healthier, but the combination works fantastic for me. I ordered my black soap from amazon, from a store called 'sheabynature'. It cost around £8 plus shipping to the uk, and believe me when I say that the lump of soap they send you will last AGES. Approx. 4/5 months I think, I have rattled on enough but if anyone has any questions about my regime feel free to ask.... I hope anyone who reads this and tries it out sees the same results as me, as I feel soooo good now I have clear, glowing skin!
  8. Feb 16 2012 update on what has been helping I have experimented with a lot of things.. The candida diet, zapping machines, water fasts, the frutarian diet etc.. What worked you ask? Am I clear yet? Well right now I am in ANOTHER water fast it is my 3rd day so far.. And guess what organ is detoxing once again? My SKIN.. So right at the moment I am not clear only one small pimple on the left side of my chin which is awesome. before the water fast was I clear? Yes I was not perfect but nothing active. I will answer some questions you may have. Did the candida diet work? Maybe to cleanse my system of the candida (if there ever was any) but in the long term NO the diet does not work. You have to take far to many supplements among other things for this to be a natural diet that people should be on. In the end I think it actually made things worse for the texture of my skin because of all of the odd supplementation and no LIVE fruits and veggies. Am I glad I went on the candida diet? Yes I am! It taught me a lot about my body. I enjoyed the diet overall and it was a great learning experience. Would I go back to that diet? No not in a million years! It was to strainous not to mention your body is not suppose to be acidic all the time which is what meat primarily does to the body. Did it clear me? Never 100% It did for the most part but after it cleared me the acne came back and my skin texture looked gross How long did you water fast? 36 days What did the water fast do? It healed a ton of scars, smoothed the texture of my skin and got me eating healthy again and off of all the meat and oil. My skin healed so much on the water fast it was amazing. I am actually doing another one right now. On my third day and my last blackhead is starting to come out . The first water fast got rid of all my other blackheads and filled in my pores and scares that had formed from the off supplementation of the candida diet. How did you break the water fast? Watermelon juice and then fruits What have you been eating since the water fast? :Lots of fruits and veggies! Lots of carbs. I experimented a little after and figured out if I eat mostly fruits and a tin bit of veggies I stay clear. When I tried to bring in potatoes and butter I started breaking out again. Went right back to the fruit diet and was clear again. Not to mention my skin just looks healthier and people have actually complemented my skin since I have been on the fruit diet. You are suppose to eat 80% of your calories from carbs in the form of fruits, 10% protein (also getting from fruits and veggies) , and 10% fat (also from fruits and veggies). Yes sometimes I have more avocado then needed but I love this diet and I am enjoying eating again compared to the candida diet where I felt deprived from things that were sweet. So what do you eat now? Apples, oranges, apricots, plums, avocado, lettuce, kale, watermelon, honey due, blackberry, raspberry, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, peaches, mango, papaya, bananas and well you get the idea! Those are just some of the fruits and veggies that I eat! I also make a green drink a few days of the week or just whenever I can. I use anything from broccoli, cabbage, spinach, lettuce, etc. I try to eat about 1400-2500 calories per day of these foods. I eat chia seeds sometimes and will try to add nuts in. I also have salmon (raw mostly) or tuna (also raw) wrapped in seaweed if I am really craving it. I did cheat and ate sweet potato and butter but after a few days of that I was breaking out so if I do cheat it will only be once in a while. This diet makes your body primarily alkaline. How do you transition? Very slowly.. I went straight into a water fast and you cant break a water fast with anything from the candida diet like chicken or fish or oils so I had to start eating fruit. That's when I noticed changes! So my transition was immediate right after water fasting. Douglas Grahams book 80/10/10 has been helping me stay on track. Not 100% sure if I will be 80/10/10 but I am going more in that direction right now. Will you expect healing reactions such as breakouts from a water fast or the raw food diet? Yes I went through them but now I look almost like my old self before I ever had acne Wish I would of found this before I tried dermarolling, facials, supplements, the candida diet, creams, lotions, products etc.. My skin would be perfect if I had found this diet before.. How much exercise do you do everyday? I try to run 30 minutes to an hour every day. I also lift weights and to strength core workouts like yoga 3+ times per week. My endurance is better then ever and this is the first time I have ever been able to run an hour at a time without getting tired. Here is my old log.. I don't want to delete it because I feel everything I went though should stay here because it was a huge learning process for me I'll add more as I learn more. I'll cross out what really didn't help me and add on what had been helping me now 1) Find out your allergins (for example eggs break me out really bad) 2) Go on the candida diet strictly (taking the coconut oil everyday) 3) Exercise everyday (at least 3 miles and do legs/arma/chest/stomach workouts too 4) No picking!!!!!!!!!! 5) Clarisonic skin brush (worth the $$$$) 6) High frequency machine (you dont need it but it did help when I has big bumps) However now I dont use it at all and I am clear 7) Red light therapy (for scars) 8) READING healing books....LIKE ***Eckhart Tolle-A new earth awakening to your lifes purpose ***Louise L. Hay-You can heal your life 9) Raw food vegan diet of mostly fruits and veggies. High carb and low fat 80/10/10 Please read these books if you have acne or symptoms of BDD like looking in the mirror all day or avioding mirrors all together... VERY important to have SELF LOVE before your acne will go away 10) Most important is to LOVE YOURSELF.. It will persist no matter the diet until you truly do Other things that helped.... 1) My diet contained no carbohydrates for 3/4 months besides the ones in nuts and veggies. For three months all I ate was salmon, veggies, and almond butter/nuts. However, I have now cut out nuts completely including almond butter.. You have to cut out nuts because they are so hard on your digestive system if it is not balanced. Cheating with nuts is okay once in a while though! I still eat Lots of fish which has the good natural omegas. My diet consists mostly of salmon, shrimp, zucchini, onions, spinach, avocados, broccoli, green peppers, green veggies, and chicken, turkey, coconut oil, red peppers, sea salt, pepper, ginger, various natural spices, and almost any veggie. 2) Red/infrared light and blue acne light used almost every day for the first four months.. now since my skin is almost clear I use it about once or twice a month. **Update** I do not use the blu light at all anymore. Now I use the red/infared LED light about 1-4x per month. 3) Around 2000 mg taurine powder everyday + b-complex 25 + seltzer water (stopped taking taurine however I didnt want to delete it because I did do t for he first 6 months or so of this diet) 4) Acupuncture (was not a cure all but helped with my stress and get me more balanced).. Update.. Met another acupuncturist who (the real deal who doesnt even speak english) and he said my chin area had no blood circulation (the area where I break out) he stuck 2 needles in my face by my chin and a bunch all over my body. He also gave me a bad of some kind of herb or something. Ever since my skin hasnt broken out at all... But it has only been a week. My best advice is find a GREAT acpuncturist.. Someone with over 20 years experience.. They should beable to read your pulse with and know exactly what is wrong with you. 5) Drink only water.. (about 9 glasses a day or 13 if you are a boy) (not needed if you consume tons of fruit) 6) Exercise.. I wanted to add this because it's VERY important to help with my stress.. My choice of stress relief is running, dance, and yoga.. Remember stress=acne I also wanted to add meditation to this section. Since I have started meditating I feel a lot more balanced and better about my skin texture. 7) Vitamins and supplements I have been taking everyday are 1000-4000 mg vitamin C b complex 25 or 50 2x per day along with 100mg niacin 2x per day calcium vitamin D (1000 mg) magnesium vitamin A/zinc/selenium/vitamin E 1 tablespoon full of cod liver oil (when I dont eat fish).. Havnt been doing this lately because I take 20,000 IU vitamin A instead along with vitamin D and I eat salmon a lot! 1 teaspoon full of celtic sea salt HCL supplement (only when I had digestive problems which I dont have anymore so I dont need HCL anymore) 1 tablespoon full of olive oil (sometimes) colostrum (2 pills every morning) YOU get ALL the vitamins you need from FRUIT and VEGGIES! (I also have fish once in a while for B12) 8) Coconut oil (5-6 tablespoons a day)... Update.. I only take about 1-3 tablespoons per day now since I am healthy 9) Apple cider vinegar.. Update.. Dont really take this anymore but it did help when I did take it!) 10) No harsh products on my face 1) Exfoliate once or twice a week with Clarisonic skin brush I only do it when I see excess skin once every great while 12) 20 minutes of sun everyday 13) oil pulling (you swish coconut oil in your mouth one to three times per day for about 20 minutes and then spit it out.. it pulls lots of toxins out) Things the broke me out at some point during is experiment 1) Carrots (I have drank carrot juice everyday for weeks and had no breakouts so I guess it was just a detox symptom) Not sure about the rest of this stuff but ill leave it up here.. I haven't really tried eating it since the fast so I cant so what it would do as of 2012 2) Coffee 3) 85% dark chocolate 4) Diet coke 5) Sugar free red bull 6)Lobster 7) Nuts gave me minor breakouts on my chin but nothing to bad 8) Asparagus PS. My acupuncturist said that I have 'allergins' and bad circulation.. Which I suspect had something to do with my acne issues. I'll keep everyone updated! I wanted to add one last thing though.. Everynight I started listenig to these CD's by Kelly Howell. All of he CD's are good but right now I reccomend Living prayer, Universal Mind Meditation, Weight Loss, and Positive Thinking. She has helped me a ton change my thinking from negative acne thoughts, to positive beautiful thoughts. The KEY to clear skin is not only diet and exercise.. But far more important is your THOUGHTS and BALANCE in LIFE. Until you can look in the mirror at youself and truly say I LOVE YOU and I ACCEPT MYSELF just as you are, you will probably still have problems with acne. (Acne stems from dislike of the self) Good luck to all.. ~First Post~ Hi everyone! So I decided to start a log to track my progress.. I have been on the candida diet for about 2 weeks now.. And just started back with the taurine+b complex 2 days ago. I had a huge breakout from carrots (5 huge organic ones which was a minor setback from the diet)..Which gave me 10 huge pimples/cysts on my chin and jawline.. And a couple on my forehead. I was almost clear before the carrots only one pimple on my chin. I also have an allergy test in progress which the results should be in in a few days. All I eat is fish.. No red meat..No chicken.. Just fish with a little lemon and all different kinds of veggies..some hummus and almond butter.. My face wash is from a local lady who makes her own with no harsh chemicals.. I use no products like benzoyl peroxide because my skin is SO sensitive. Today my diet/supplements consisted of Food: salmon/spinach zucchini/onions with salt pepper and garlic powder red lettuce and spinach salad with 2 avocados and extra virgin olive oil and lemon Yogi stomach ease tea Lots of water..Some with probiotics and come with emergence C Fresh Ahi tuna with lemon Garlic Yogi Detox tea Almond Butter Supplements: ca/zn/mg 3000 mg taurine 50 b-complex vitamin E Probiotics emergence C (1000mg) Current skin condition: 10 pimples on chin are dieing down.. 2 on forehead are surfacing not really getting better or worse.. Since I have been on taurine I can tell they are drying out If you have any advice on supplements etc please let me know!
  9. The following is my personal regimen that cleared me up extremely quickly (I still have some marks left over, however they have gone from red and very noticeable to a light pink color). First, here is a little background information about me: I am an 18 year old male who, for the most part, never really struggled with acne until I left home for college. I struggled with moderately severe acne for about four months, trying almost every possible product you can think of. I used abrasive scrubs, astringent toners, and many other irritating and drying products that I believed would clear my skin. The truth is, all of these products made my skin even worse, as they were too irritating! I recently found my personal regimen, that I have used for only a week, and it has cleared up by acne about 80% to 90%. Everyone is different, and I am not necessarily saying that this will work for you, but it is crucial to find your own personal regimen and stick to it. Consistency is key in combating acne. Okay, so here it is: Morning: As soon as I wake up, I take a 50mg zinc gluconate pill (has anti-inflammatory which help to reduce and calm inflamed, painful acne. Also helps the skin to heal faster and supports immune health). Next I take 2 ibuprofen (also have anti-inflammatory properties and help lessen pain of acne). I then take 8 500mg B5 pills, also known as Panthothenic Acid (in a nut shell help regulate oil production in the body by creating Coenzyme-A that aids in metabolism). I then take several ice cubes and GENTLY rub each ice cube one by one on problem areas of my face (ice soothes inflamed skin). Next, I cleanse my skin with Cerave Hydrating Cleanser, but any non-comedogenic, non-irratating, non-drying cleanser will do. I pat my skin dry with a soft towel, and then wait about 5-10 minutes for my skin to completely dry. Once my face is completely dry, I apply a generous amount of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide and completely cover all problem areas (2.5% benzoyl peroxide is proven to be just as effective as 5% and 10% concentrations, without drying out skin as badly). I then wait 5 minutes, and apply Dan's 10% glycolic acid as a spot treatment (only a small amount is to be used, as it can potentially dry out skin). I then wait about 10 minutes, and then I gently apply Cerave Moisturizing Lotion to my face. Afternoon: I take 8 more 500mg B5 pills. Night: I take 2 ibuprofen and 8 more 500mg B5 pills (total of 24 throughout the day). I then take several ice cubes and GENTLY rub each ice cube one by one on problem areas of my face. Next, I cleanse my skin with Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. I pat my skin dry with a soft towel, and then wait about 5-10 minutes for my skin to completely dry. Once my face is completely dry, I apply a generous amount of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide and completely cover all problem areas. I then wait 5 minutes, and apply Dan's 10% glycol acid as a spot treatment. I then wait about 10 minutes, and then I gently apply Cerave Moisturizing Lotion to my face. That's it! The key is to be extremely gentle with your skin. Irritation simply leads to more acne. The truth is, you do not need to use harsh chemicals and toners and scrubs in order to get clear skin. BE GENTLE. That's pretty much it. This is my personal regimen and it has given me fantastic results. I am not necessarily saying that this will work for you, as everyone is different. The point is to find a regimen, and stick to it. Everyone wants their acne to heal as fast as possible, so in desperacy they use harsh chemicals and abrasive scrubs that simply make matters worse. Don't be discouraged if what you are doing does not work, as it can take months even years to become clear. Just hang in there and remember, consistency is crucial!

    100% Sardine Diet

Hi there, It's been a while since I posted on acne.org. I do have a look around once in a while, but as my signature says; my skin has gotten a lot better so I'm not as obsessed as I was. Anyway, I started this topic because although my skin HAS gotten better and is pretty clear I've been really busy lately and haven't been keeping my diet as under control as much as I wish, and I've been getting a few pimples. I came across a topic on here saying that fasting was really effective, and although I have tried that in the past- I cannot possibly do that at the moment as I need the energy. So I'm trying a 100% sardine diet. Sardines in olive oil, for as long as I can. I will try to post everyday to keep you updated on my progress. I'm not planning to eat only sardines forever, and I know that it's not ideal, and that I may be lacking nutrients and bla bla bla, but I'm just trying this out so please do not criticize my attempt! If I faint it's my problem, if I become sick it's my problem too. Anyway, this is evening number 1- wish me luuuuuuuuuuuuck!

Today is Day One of my gut healing protocol. It's basically my last chance to heal my skin, because I have tried EVERYTHING else! Antibiotics (twice,), BC, BP, salicylic acid, accutane (isotretinoin) (couldn't keep going due to horrific side effects so acne came back.) I've tried dairy free, low fat, vegetarian, vegan... you know the drill. After extensive research (we're talking bloody hours trawling the internet and looking at ebooks, blogs, PubMed, etc., I have decided the acne is a direct result of gut troubles. I have a history of IBS, gastritis (for which i took PPI's), and general gut discomfort, and having seen how many people have found success with the paleo diet I've decided it's definitely worth giving it a go. The theory goes that gut troubles = leaky gut = toxins leeching through gut lining into bloodstream = toxic buildup = skin ends up trying to eliminate it. I will now be following a paleo regime (no dairy/grains/soy/legumes/processed food/sugar) after my fast has finished, in the hope of removing all gut irritants and healing my leaky gut. But to kick start this, I'm doing a three day bone broth fast. For the next three days, I will only consume bone broth, herbal teas and water. The idea is that this gives your gut the chance to start healing and repair some of the damage. Bone broth (which is homemade) is full of collagen and beneficial nutrients and amino acids such as glutamine - google it for details! I will post here daily to update you all. Today - woke up with about 5 new red sore spots on chin, plus a couple on forehead/eyebrows. Cheeks and nose are (thankfully) clear - main issue is chin really (which is BAD - if this experiment works, i'll upload photos!) So far, the bone broth is fine. Not hungry. Happy (apart from shocking face.) xxx

Good luck.. happy fasting
  13. Hi gang! My background: Lurker for close to 10 years, almost as long as I have had acne. I am a mid-20s college student raising a sibling. In other words, I have no time. I want to look presentable, though. This is why clearing my skin naturally is so important to me. I also don't wear makeup.. so it's magnifies the issue. I'm a hard INTJ, if you dig MBTI. That means I'm typically anxious and tense, which I'm sure is a big part of my acne. BCP (Yasmin) cleared my skin in my teens. Went off of it because of some of the possible side effects, then went on Spiro, which worked perfectly. However, I want to heal my body. I don't want to be on medication forever. Both my parents have adult acne, so I could be looking at hard cysts on my face with other inflamed red rolling hills until I hit menopause. I was going to do Accutane, but stopped when I realized I would have to go back on Yasmin (i.e. my skin would be perfect on yasmin so I doubt the accutane would cure me.) I am using the Neutrogena light therapy mask right now. It is helping but I doubt it will help as much as I need. I eat a diet of chicken, vegetables, and glucomannan/oat fiber (non-soluble fibers that fill you up and pass right through.) I have always had chronic constipation, so I take Miralax. When I don't take it, the inflammation gets worse. I have noticed that if I eat a ton of vegetables, my skin can get inflamed. This worries me. When I don't eat, or eat tiny portions to keep myself from starving, acne is reduced. But how can I sustain that? It doesn't seem possible. I know tanning and sweating/working out have helped in the past, but on this diet I have no energy to work out. I am scared of how hungry it would make me. No, not anorexic. I'm 5'6 and ~140. If you have read this far, my heartfelt thanks. I am so grateful for this community. Acne is such a difficult disease to deal with in the modern world-the shame, I mean. MY QUESTION: Is there anything else I can do for my acne naturally? Should I just suck it up and go back on Spiro?

    Ween Myself Off Of Celexa

Hi. I have a dilema and was looking for a second opinion. I am currently on the medication Celexa for anxiety, I have been on it for about 9 weeks now. I am also a sufferer of mild acne. I have noticed that since beginning to take the celexa, my acne has been much more persistent. My dilema is, is that I am going on holiday in 6 days and I really don't want to go looking the way I currently do. I usually have relatively clear skin, but this is the worst it's been in a while. I was thinking of weening myself off of the medication for this 6 day period so hopefully my acne will clear up and I will have clearer skin for my trip. Any opinions? I know there are risks of taking yourself off of medication without talking to your doctor but quite frankly, I'm not bothered at this moment in time. Ha.
  16. I've tried basically all the over the counter products that one can purchase. Yes, all of them. None of them made my skin better. On the contrary, all the products seemed to make my skin worse. I've had consistent severe cystic acne everywhere on my face. It all began when my grandmother told me about this miracle drink...that both prevents and helps with arthritis, cancer, et. al. To be honest, it seemed to be good to be true. I took her advise with a grain of salt and you should too. The actual drink is an apple-carrot-potato concoction, juiced together, drunk once in the morning and night on an empty stomach. I thought, hey, it may help with preventing freak diseases in the future. Since the drink seemed innocent enough, I started drinking it once a day because I'm lazy. Ha. After two days, my skin improved dramatically. I mean, who knew? I am unbelievably happy. Now after a month, I have no breakouts and my scars have faded by at least 50%. Of course, diet still matters. For me, only deep-fried and spicy foods are off limits. Everything else, like dairy, cheeses and rice are perfectly fine. My routine: ***I'm a dude, so I use a simplistic approach, instead of the patrick bateman morning routine AM Juice (3 apples, 1 carrot, 1 or 2 potatoes) - empty stomach L'occitane Red Rice Cleanser (discontinued) - $22, but the entire thing will last 1 1/2 years, so....... Clinique 7 day scrub - used everyday. PM L'occitane Red Rice Cleanser BTW, I've tried pretty much everything My list of failed products: clinique acne, l'occitane, panoxyl, kiehl's, clean & clear, neutrogena, st. ives, bio oil, cetaphil, spectro gel, sulfur soap, vodka, yogurt, lemon juice, egg white, egg yolk, aspirin & honey, oxy and topical antibiotics Note that I have tried several products from each brand. I can say that OTC products are downright ineffective and your condition worse. Seriously. Save yourself the trouble and do yourself a favor. Buy a juicer (I strongly recommend the Breville Juice Fountain Plus) and make this juice! I swear I am not affiliated with the agricultural industry (I buy local produce ), the juicing industry (I use a Breville juicer if you're interested), or l'occitane (it's a discontinued product for god's sake!). The severity of my acne: 20+ pimples on an average day. 6-10 on a better day. Mainly cystic acne on cheeks, temples and some on the neck. I had some back acne as well. Seriously, this is probably the best solution for acne. This approach offers absolutely no side effects, assuming you stop using topical medication like I did. My scarring have also faded dramatically. However, you need to have a good diet that does not contain, under any circumstances, fried food, very fattening food (medium-rare ribeye steaks did not break me out, while some dim sum did) and spicy foods. And just to reiterate, I eat a lot of dairy on a daily basis (an entire tub of greek yogurt...lol), and it does not give me breakouts. By the way, I am an avid tea drinker (green). Drinking a copious amount of tea did not affect my complexion in any visible manner. It can also be argued that it made it worse because it kept me up at night, reducing the time for shut eye.
  17. With 20 mg Isotretinoin, is it possible to clear your skin up very quickly that lasts for a day to a week? It doesn't matter if the skin gets worse again AFTER that, the main concern is having clear sign for this short period of time, such as for a formal occasion where you need to look your best Can you safely up the Accutane dosage to achieve this?

    Best Method I Ever Tried!

Hey everyone! So I've posted a few topics here over the years about my face routine. However, as of about a month ago, I came across the best, BEST method I've ever used. So much better that I'm never going back to a regular cleanser ever again. Oatmeal. That's it. Regular, PLAIN quaker's oatmeal. I always liked the idea of natural remedies for the face, but didn't think they'd ever work. Some information on me. I'm a 20 year old female. I had moderate to severe hormonal acne through my teens, but now I have very light to no acne thanks to finding the right products for me. My face has been clear for 3 years. However, I'd STILL get a painful pimple on my jaw or my chin now and again, and I just wanted it to stop. So I found a video about using oatmeal as a CLEANSER, and decided to try it out. I use just plain quaker oats. I take a little handful in my fist, and hold my hand under the sink or shower head with a little bit of space in the top of my hand so water can get to the oats. I then take my hand away and use my other hand to put one more little handful of water on the oats. I then take the oats, rub them in between my hands a little, and then wash my face with the mixture for about one minute. Afterwards I rinse my face with cool water and pat my face for about 30 seconds to get blood flowing. And oh my god guys, it is AMAZING. My face is so smooth, moisturized, and CLEAR. I haven't gotten a single pimple. It works so well, I literally use nothing else but Oats and a moisturizer. It removes all of my makeup and dirt, and just makes me feel so refreshed and NOT stripped and dry or irritated. I highly recommend everyone try just plain oats as a cleanser. It has no uneeded chemicals, so the worst it can do is just not work. Good luck!

    10 Day Water Fast

Hey all, I've decided to start a 10 day water fast to hopefully help heal my sensitive and reactive towards everything skin. Right now i have some rash on my face (other than that face is generally clear at this point in my life) and chest and back acne. Aiming for 10 days, could go over or under depending on how much it helps. I've done a few short fasts here and there, never an extended one so I figured to help me keep with it I'd write about it for the sake of thy readers... Or just me. Hopefully it helps someone here. So a little backstory on me and my skin. I'm 21, female, 5'9 around 120 lbs. Started breaking out through puberty, focusing on it (probably a little too much), tried everything from topicals, realizing topicals won't really help the problem at the core, then reading into what causes acne internally, got into health (no diary, gluten, fried foods, organic, blah blah) which does help but then life happens and you go on trips with your friends and drink beer and BAM zits everywhere. So in a fast attempt to eradicate the problem I go to a dermatologist who prescribes me antibiotics, which I can safely say is the worst thing EVER for your skin. Yes, it could and probably will help at first but it'll most likely boom back at some point or another and a lot worse off than before. So at this point I had pimples everywhere, chest, back, face. I ended up going on accutane, never actually finished the entire 5/6 months I should have been on, did more like a 2 months here, stopped, and when acne came back went on another month. Accutane's great in one way, horrible in others as you could imagine, but non the less if I have to go back on it I will. The only problem is along with my acne prone skin I have sensitive dry skin, so before I shove my body with more chemicals to help a superficial problem that'll do more harm than good down the road, I figured id do something that'll help me understand and heal my body as a whole, and hence a water fast! I guess a little turned into a lot, so I'll end it here and post further along into the fast.
  20. Hi guys. I have a deep scar on my nose its actually an ice pick scar. Will a fast work? What about 10 day fast? I am preparing for the fast. Hoping for your reply. Thanks. Inflamed pimples

I NEED HELP! I am on a light pill from my doctor which cleared my skin up. For the past five months I've had zero breakouts, just marks left behind. Well this week every day I have been getting new pimples. I put my benzoyl peroxide on them last night and woke up to them being smaller but redness all over my forehead! I need to get rid of this fast as I have a big event in two days and i need my skin to look good! What do I do!? Thanks!
  22. So, I'm on my third week of accutane now and since day one my skin has been clearing up. I've probably had about 2-3 pimples show up during this period, which is a very small number for me. But I've heard so much about it almost being a must to get the "flare up" during the first 2-3 months. Is it even possible to start clearing immediately? Or should I bee expecting my skin to get worse soon? What are your experiences?
  23. Hello everyone! I specifically joined this forum to lend help to those who have tried a million different acne treatments and have failed. After many several attempts I finally found something that works for me that uses both over the counter topical cream and supplements to help clear cystic acne. Here's my story: When I turned 24 last year after a long night out I woke up the next day with the beginning of an acne breakout. I thought the reason it was happening was because I slept with my makeup on, the many tequila shots and mixed drinks I ingested, along with the crippling sense of dehydration I had when I woke up the next morning (Clearly are not good for you skin). Well, was I SO wrong. I would come to find out I would be out here on the battlefield with cystic acne for the remainder of the year. I never once had cystic acne so bad in my life. I use to have minor breakouts in high school all the way up until I turned 24. Over the months my acne continued to get worse and worse to the point where I didn't even want to leave my house. I went to my dermatologist and she told me I had the onset of ADULT ACNE. I sat there and I cried because I thought acne was something of the past that teenagers had to deal with. I finally pulled myself together and began researching various ways to get rid of acne. I'll be damned if I'm 24 and super single with cystic acne attacking my face. Here's what I did: 1. PanOxyl - This stuff really saved my life. My dermatologist new I tried EVERYTHING and this was my last shot at hope. PanOxyl is an over the counter acne face wash with the highest available amount of Benzol Peroxide. You can get this anywhere - Amazon, CVS, etc. etc. I started washing my face with this at least once a day massaging over my cystic acne for at least a minute. Then I started moving over to twice a day until I started to notice improvements. Warning: THIS will really dry out your face to be extra careful. I have sensitive skin and it really dried me out. 2. Argan Oil - After I wash my face I always moisturize with oil. I read the using oil is a lot better for cystic acne than using regular face creams which contain perfume and other irritating factors. Oil has a thin consistency and really holds in the moisture longer. 3. Clairsonic - Mia - I’m not saying you have to purchase because I know it’s a little pricey but it really did help me on my acne removing endeavor. The Clairsonic I used twice a week to help circulation on my face it also removed my dried skin from using heavy duty acne treatments. I still use it now twice a week for a light exfoliation and to get my circulation going. 4. Supplements - I stumbled upon an all natural acne forum. As most of you know, acne actually starts from within your body – if your inner body isn’t regulating properly or if there is a hormone imbalance your face will in fact breakout. I was kicking up the battle on my external body but I also needed to fix it internally as well. Here are the supplements I recommend to treat acne and they’re all over the counter: - Pro-biotics: sometimes your stomach produces bad bacteria and you need to bring in good bacteria to balance it out – if you have more bad than good you develop acne and inflammation. - Vitamin A: help prevent dead skin cells from sloughing off and clogging pores, reduce the amount of oil your skin produces, which also reduces pore-clogging, suppress androgen formation (androgens in the skin are a major cause of acne), protect fats from oxidation (which keeps cell damage and inflammation at bay) - Zinc: helps accelerate the growth and development of skin cells necessary for clear skin and also reduced inflammation Vitamin B complex: help convert carbohydrates and fats into energy. It also promotes function of immunity, digestion and the nervous system which (if you look at the bigger picture) improves our overall body function of skin, hair, nails, etc etc. It also reduces inflammation. Lastly!! I started to eat a yogurt once a day to really keep on top of ingesting a pro-biotic. I put it in a smoothie or take one on the go. After also speaking with my dad he told me he had acne as well (curse my family for this bad acne gene) and he told me an old method of acne removal that really worked for me: using a hot compress to open your pores and then use a cold one to close them. This helps unclog your pores at the end of each day and I started doing it at least 3 times a week! Easier said than done but, don’t ever be discouraged because of acne. It happens to the best of us and we are all more than just a pretty face. One thing that helped me get by during my healing process was googling celebrities who had bad acne and you will really be surprised with what you find. Good luck!! Love + light xx.
