  1. Hey! So my acne started back in march, after trying out first time birth control and staying on it for a week, stopping because of explosion of acne I had never experienced before. Then immediately following a taper of a corticosteriod called prednisone, because my doctor thought it was a rash on my face that was some sort of allergic reaction--which was false. It was acne.. Theres the background... So I've experimented on my own with different supplements--fish oils, multivitamins designed for skin health, etc. I decided that although my acne was definitely recovering on its own with time, (I believe since my periods and hormones were very on point before, my body would eventually sort out this disturbance on it's own) I wanted to speed things up, obviously and help optimize my health, hormonally and generally to make sure I don't have to deal with the emotional trauma of acne again once i'm clear.. So I went to a naturopath who kept me on the fish oil and evening primrose oil I was taking-- so I have my omega 3 &6 covered for inflammation. We also agreed i was probably estrogen dominant because of the pms symptoms I have, and she started me on Vitex, otherwise known as chaste berry. I am on a great multivitamin from whole foods, as well. And last but definitely not least-- Vitamin D3. Every day I'm getting 5000IU of Vitamin D in the morning, and although it's been only a week (too soon to tell, I know) I'm seeing improvements for sure. I'm thinking that the only supplement I'm taking that could swing into effect so quickly is the high dose of Vitamin d. I did some research about prednisone and it is said to severely deplete people of vitamin D. I was wondering if anyone else has had success with vitamin D, if these results are totally unrelated and I'm getting my hopes up. thanks !
  2. Hi all. So I was on accutane back in 2013 with great success. However, back in November I had a breakout that was a little worse than usual. I wasn't too worried because I tend to get these in a very minor form still a week or so before my time of the month. However, at the same I had been to see a doctor because I was having issues with painful periods, bad PMS etc and she recommended that if I wanted a natural solution I should try Evening Primrose Oil. I started taking these with great success in terms of controlling my PMS symptoms, except for one thing- my acne just seemed to get worse, then look slightly better, then get worse and so on and so on. I had read a little about balancing omega 3 and 6 and thought perhaps if I resumed taking my cod liver oil supplements at the same time (which I had been taking prior to all this without issues) that it might be help- but nope. At this point I was getting papules and pustules on my cheeks, which I never got even when my acne was at its worst before accutane. Usually it is heavily concentrated around my mouth and chin. The leftover marks are also taking months to heal, which I never usually experience. I then decided to try borage oil instead, so I went ahead and bought an omega 3-6-9 supplement containing Fish oil, borage/starflower oil and flax. So far I keep thinking my skin looks slightly better one day and then suddenly I'll get these really angy red blemished forming all over again. So, basically I'm wondering if is due to these omega screwing everything up? Should I stop them completely?

    From the album: My Skin

Hey y'all. Just an update on my skin, this photo was taken today, April 1st, 2014. I have recently begun taking beta carotene again (after weeks of being without it), & I have also added a mixed capsule of fish oil, borage oil, & flax, plus a primrose oil supplement (supposedly it helps to balance a woman's hormones). I also plan on taking a probiotic I purchased regularly as well because I'm trying to restore my "good" gut bacteria. Topically, I have been doing a lot of Glycolic acid peels. I'm trying to fade my red hyperpigmentation primarily. It has done a GREAT job of doing that on my cheeks, which was one of my worst areas, and my forehead, which looks normal & that makes me very happy. My jawline and temples have experienced some lightening as well & I honestly believe that with around 5 more treatments or less, my skin will look pretty amazing. Unfortunately, right now, my jawline & sides of face (including tples) are experiencing angry breakouts. I'm not sure why, it could just be part of the healing process with this last peel. They responding well to no benzoyl peroxide last night which isn't typical so I think these are more dry pimples than oily ones that just need some TLC. I'll keep you all updated. I hope everyone's well.
  4. New blog so I can post photos! Duh! For your reference... this is me: Meet Natalie! Today at work...I'm dead. I'm so sleep deprived I have no idea how I'm still functioning. I ate and I feel sick. It's about 4pm. I'm ready to go home and sleep. I had to start this blog because my other one ran out of MB??? I don't even know. Ain't nothin' changed...Drinkin' tea...Workin'...YOU already KNOOOOW. photos with my hair down are last night and today with my hair up at work looking like death haha!
  5. Hey guys, Since my last blog entry I have only been suffering with acne in the corner of my forehead. I get small bumps on my jawline but nothing major and I treat them with a face mask(as a spot treatment). My updated skincare routine is as follows: PM: acne.org cleanser clearogen cleanser (daily) Acv toner pixi glow tonic tone ole henrikson night treatment la roche duo and H moisturiser Sunday riley artemis (amazing oil but hurts my bank account) Products I use sparingly: Alpha H liquid gold pixi pads sea buckthorn oil (topical) Masks de la cruz sulfur aztec Indian secret glamglow (white one for spot treatment) origins charcoal (got a sample and love it) also got dr gross sulfur mask but am yet to try it. Suppliments: H&B evening primrose oil Sibu sea buckthorn oil zinc (not all the time) now foods Akn (great hormone balance ingredients) now foods eve please let me know if you have any questions on the above products I am happy to discuss them in more detail. I believe this routine has got my skin 90% clear (with the exception of TOM)
  6. Hey guys So since we last spoke (I spoke you read) I felt as though clearogen was being way too harsh on my skin so I made some changes. I'll go into my current routine later on. On Friday I had an appointment with a new derm... He told me my acne is probably genetic (even though it's clearly around my jawline and was caused by Yasmin one would think its hormonal hmmm). We did speak for about 45mins (my apologies to the people waiting for their appointment after me). He suggested roaccutane to "break the cycle of acne" but I wasn't convinced and told him my concerns. So he then turned to differin. I came home and immediately did crap loads of research. I'd used epiduo for 6 months and felt it was too harsh but that was probably the BP in it. Can anyone share their differin experience with me? I've decided not to start it just yet (I have a string of weddings in a hot country to attend this summer). Instead I've been researching avene triacneal... Again if anyone has any experience with this because get in touch! I'd love to know how you got on. After an accident a few weeks back I had to take Plan B which I think has thrown my hormones a bit out of whack plus being away I was sloppy with my usual masks and treatments and my skin has suffered. Ive been using a type of product for a while now and I must say has defiantly changed the overall look of my skin, I just need to get the jawline breakouts under control grrrr due to plan B but it's really calming down since using one of these products. Here goes... GUYS... SULPHUR... SULFUR whateverrrrr it's my everything. I have x4 kinds and 2 are just magic Peter Thomas Roth sulfur masque... Meh Azufre sulfur acne treatment ointment I like Now for my two lifesavers DE LA CRUZ ACNE MASK & DEAD SEA SULFUR SOAP <3 Amazing. Also, I have been routine with my zinc and evening primrose oil which I love. Let me know if you have experience with any of the above. I'm so determined to clear my skin without a crappy doctor or derm. I've seen around 8 in the past 10 years, NONE mentioned sulphur in fact when I mentioned it to the derm he said "oh might have a look into that"

    Oily Skin Experiment

Let me start by telling you that I am a full time college student and a part-time EMT who has suffered VERY oily skin and is no stranger to Accutane. I took isotretinoin for 5 years—some of it was supervised by a physician, some of it wasn’t—not that I need to get into that right now. I have been off of Accutane since September 2013 and I wont ever be going back—also a conversation for another time. SO, I have been experimenting with different supplements, vitamins and lifestyle changes for my oily skin issues since quitting iso. I thought I should document for those who are interested Here are some of the things I have tried (despite how weird some are and may not have been successful): Isotretinoin (Accutane) — The cure, basically Birth Control (YAZ) — I have been on it since Accutane so I have no real data but I know it can control hormones and hormones seem to be the ultimate culprit of the oily skin issue, which is the root of my acne. Zinc — Needs further experimentation Water (Excessive amounts) — definitely helps clarity but too many bathroom trips! Vitamin D — dried the parts of my skin from neck and below and also gave me a new found skin issue; HORRENDOUS ECZEMA, thanks a lot Vitamin D, the D must stand for DICK! Evening Primrose Oil — A very intriguing plant seed oil, skin looks FANTASTIC (less oil and clears up—for about a week or so) then all hell breaks loose on my face…. This one is still in progress I am a big believer (in my particular case) that hormones are the main issue here. In order for me to get rid of my oily skin AND my minor acne issues, I need to better regulate the hormones. I think I might have too many androgens floating around in here! I have read that EPO (Evening Primrose Oil), Borage Oil, Saw Palmetto, Milk Thistle, Flaxseed Oil, Spironolactone, etc. (let me know if I forgot any) are great anti-androgens… I must say I haven’t done super extensive research because I am a Bio major and that keeps me busy! BUT, I think GLA (Gamma Linoleic Acid) is the primary ingredient in a few of those, that helps to keep hormones in check! I’m going to document my progress, feel free to give me some suggestions! Day 3 Evening Primrose Oil -- 3 x 1300mg EPO (117mg GLA per capsule): Not sure why I'm really documenting this.. I'm almost out of the EPO and I'm going to start using borage oil 300mg GLA per capsule instead. It has more GLA so I thought I'd make the switch. - as far as pimples go, I have maybe 4 actives and a couple that are red marks but healed - skin is not much less oily than I have experienced in the past but I do feel like the anti-inflammatory properties of the GLA are still working I can always tell when my skin is significantly less oily... my lips start burning and they feel dry and I have an incessant need for chapstick--kind of similar to the dryness experienced while on Accutane I hope the borage oil has a better effect on my skin. I swear one day when I am finished with PA school and my masters, I am going to conduct research with other physicians to find a "cure" for oily skin and acne! Why not? Keeping track of oiliness so you can see
  8. I have what I suppose is fairly mild acne but it really upsets me and affects my confidence. I am a bit stuck for whether to continue using the acne.org treatment because I feel like it has made my skin worse and it doesn't seem to be getting me anywhere. And the fact that makeup makes me look like a lizard isn't helping because I can't even hide behind a mask! Here is a brief history of my issue... I am 26 now, I started getting acne at around 24-25 and tried all the usual shop things. My acne is mainly on my chin with the odd spot on my cheeks. The thing I found to have an actual impact was taking evening primrose oil. But I was taking 3000mg a day which is 3x the recommended dose. It didn't clear my skin but it felt more under control. I got the Proactiv 3-step kit for Christmas 2014 and used that alongside the EPO. This did help a bit - I would have a few spot free days in the month but my skin never actually looked nice and I was still breaking out. Then I heard about the regimen. I've been using the treatment now for about a month. I am still washing my face with the Proactiv cleanser as I haven't finished the bottle yet. But I won't repurchase (it's not worth the money!). I moisturize with Cetaphil or use the acne.org AHA. I feel like the skin which isn't spotty has benefited and looks nicer using the AHA. But the problem areas are still problematic. I now take 1000mg of EPO a day as well because I wanted to reduce the dosage. But I feel like my skin is actually worse since changing routines. I have a lot of hyperpigmentation which is upsetting because I am very pale and my spots are taking longer to clear. I am also getting more of them. All gifts for birthdays and Christmas since this started have related to my bad skin, what my mother refers to as my 'poorly face'. I'd have describe my acne as mild so I feel like the worsening of it is a big deal because looking in the mirror today I want to cry because it's probably verging on moderate acne. I basically want some advice. Should I plough on, will it get better or am I destined to be spotty for life?

Hey y'all. Same ish as usual. Just working my butt off. For the past week or so, I have been taking my walk around the lake in the mornings usually at 10:45-11:45 or sometimes 11:45-12:45. Depends on how work is goin and if shit pops off. I've been getting good sun. The morning sun is the BEST. It's currently 93 degrees where I'm at. AND NO BREEZE LOL. I have not been putting argan oil on my face in the mornings-- just at night before I put on my aloe. So my routine for the past two nights has been my mixture of manuka honey, colloidal silver, goats kefir, cinnamon, turmeric and a probiotic capsule. Then I wash it off (with tap water eeeeeeek) after an hour or longer just depends, tone with NOW I'm diluting ACV to 50/50 filtered water/ACV, and then put argan oil on let it dry for a few minutes and then fresh aloe. holy shit my dark circles are so insane I really need to start sleeping properly. It's 6:35 and I'm waiting for my sister to get out of the kitchen so I can cook & make tea !!
  11. Hi there! I am a 21 year old woman, and I just started using acne.org. I'm from Denmark, so my english is not flawless I've always had unclear skin, starting in my teens, but it has been ok, I could keep it at bay with topicals and murad skincare. But then I got really sick with anorexia, and as I slowly gained weight again in recovery, my acne exploded. Never had bad cystic acne, but really really bad whitehead (inflamed) acne especially on my lower cheeks. It made me absolutely miserable .. I could not leave the house, I was crying all the time. My doc. put me on dianette and skinoren, I also tried tetracycline. Nothing helped, and after 5 monts I was desperate, and finally got to see a skindoctor. She put me on accutane ! YES, finally, I thought. I am on 20 mg a day (I am only 47 kg.) She wanted to start me on a low dose and keep going for a long time. I've been taking it for almost 5 months, and my acne has almost cleared up. One active zit every other week, and it is small. I also take evening primrose oil, vit. C, D, E, Niacin and silica. I Dont eat wheat, sugar or diary but plenty of fresh veggies, fruit, protein and healthy fats. I have OCD and anxiety, and i think it affects my skin more, when I am stressed and anxious, of cause. But I am afraid to go back on medication (zoloft) because when my acne went crazy, I also just started zoloft again. I dont know if it was the eating disorder or the medication that kickstarted the acne. So I stopped the medication slowly, but my doc says it had nothing to do with zoloft.. but what if it had?? I am so afraid that my skin will get bad again .. but I know that anxiety makes my skin worse (never real bad cause of the tane), but will the medication make it even worser? Any experience on this ?? Any advice?? Thank you.
  12. I recently started taking 1300 mg epo by the brand sport research. It has fairly good reviews for acne. 87/91 of the reviews are positive. However when I started taking it, the pimple on my forehead and between my eyebrows became bigger and red. I had also consumed a slice of cheesecake that day so idk if it was the epo or the cheesecake. I did some more research on epo and discovered that it does make many people break out, some people recommend taking it with fish oil. Will fish oil with epo be more helpful? Or should I just continue taking the epo alone. I have took fish oil before and it did cause me to break out so idk if I should take it again with epo.
  13. I havn't posted on here for a while! So I have had a pretty notable success using these two in conjunction with eachother, I think AgnusCastus has been the most effective in helping keep me clear as I don't suffer with hardly any hormonal acne any more, I get maybe one/two around my time of month and then they subside and my skin has gotten clearer and clearer with each month I have been on it. Also my periods are a lot shorter and lighter maybe only lasting 3/4 days and not heavy at all. Another added bonus is that in the past I have suffered greatly with period pains, every other month or so i would get crippling pains which literally floored me and would come in waves, each wave the pain would subside a little and this would last for two to three hours leaving me absoloutly drained and pale and exhausted - since being on these supplements I have had nothing like this at all. My skin also has a little glow around it and I think that that is down to the evening primrose oil. I usually buy Agnus Castus from Holland and Barrett and recently they have changed the branding of the package - so I used to take two in the morning and two at night but now the pills are a lot smaller and more compact and I only take on in the morning and thats it. I was a little late on my period this month I think maybe because my body was adjusting to the new dose. My only one one little niggle (I feel like I really shouldn't be complaining as my skin hasn't looked this great in a long long time) is the blackheads I have around my nose and mouth. They are hardly noticable and I feel like they shouldn't even bother me but I would just like to make my skin the best it can be. I tried an oil cleanse recently but I did this with Bio Oil (and I'm not sure that this is the best oil to use as everyone seems to be using castor oil with Jojoba oil or some other form of carrier oil) and I think this has also made me break out very slightly - nothing to panic about only three small ones on one side of my face which I think will clear up nicely. I'm thinking of trying this again with other oils and I was wondering what people's thoughts in this were? I have also ordered DIM off amazon (nature's way) as I think this may really really cement my results. I'll put some pictures up of before and after as I am really pleased with my results I also follow a relativley healthy diet (I do slack sometimes eating chocolate which I geuss I could cut down on), I cut out diary as my body was intolerant to it and I think this has also had an efect and my diet typically consists of eggs and fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch with maybe ham or tuna and then if I'm working I tend to have a small snack like banana on wholemeal toast or something as I work late and like to go to the gym after work sometimes. I think you have to tackle acne from all angles and manage it, in the past i think i was young and niave and thought a harsh course of roaccutane could knock the daylights outta my system and that i could 'cure' it, which is also what I was led to believe by the doctors who prescribed my roacctuane TWICE never giving me any other tests on anything else despite me mentioning my irregular periods and the fact that no contraceptive pill ever worked for me.
  14. Hi all, I am new to this site but have been following with interest for some years. I have always struggled with my skin but consistently one thing has always helped: the mini-pill. I'm aware of how unusual this is because typically the mini-pill causes acne to get worse, but there it is! However, the pill also has some bad side effects for me, namely hair loss and terrible mood swings, so last year I came off it. I felt amazing, the hair loss stopped, and my skin was almost perfect for about three months. However, once I hit the three-month mark, it started to break out horribly, all around my mouth. At this point, as you can imagine, I started to go crazy with products, trying to combat the breakout (previously I had been using nothing on my face). Eventually I caved and went back on Cerazette. A month later, my skin is looking lots better but my body is really hating being back on the pill. I've decided to come off it and try and balance out my hormones for good, but I'm obviously scared of having my skin break out again. I'm taking 1000mg of Evening Primrose Oil, along with some fish oil capsules; a decent vitamin supplement; and some Lymecycline to sort of pre-emptively prevent bacteria from messing up my skin. However I've heard good things about other hormone-balancing supplements such as Vitex, Maca, DIM etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am really determined to stay off the pill this time so any help/ anecdotes anyone has would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks.
  15. Basically I can keep my acne somewhat under control (never 100% clear) with the use of a BP regimen but i'm still not happy with the fact that my skin is a complete oil slick - no kidding I can see little droplets of oil on my noise 20 minutes after washing my face. So i've decided to get internal and supplement to see if this reduces my oil production in any way. So this is my regimen as of today: TOPICAL Quinoderm 5% Dove Sensitive Beauty Bar Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion INTERNAL Saw Palmetto 900mg Pantothenic acid (B5) 500mg Zinc Gluconate 30mg Cod Liver oil (2 capsules) Evening Primrose Oil (1 capsule) Centrum Advance multivitamin Taken inspiration from popular acne supplements Clearetto and Pantothen. Also keeping dairy to a minimum, staying dairy free never made me 100% clear or less oily but if I take it in large quantities im asking for cysts. I also try to drink as much water as I can. Any changes in my skin will be documented in this blog, assuming I dont completely forget I even made this thing.

Plus most of those calories are from nuts lol, deeeeez nuts. im looking into what it takes to be a paralegal. So yeah, that's what ya girl Natalie is doing on a Thursday night. New 60 days in tonight woop woop!!
