  1. Hello everyone, I've never been one to log things or to write diaries but as I know friends who have taken accutane a few years back, no one seems able to remember their experience so well. All I remember is nose bleeds, the typical dry scabs either side of their lips and a really sweaty forehead in any mild heat. (This is still happening with a friend who ended their course over two years ago. So I decided I would like to document my journey in hope it may help someone else some day!

    First Update

Ok! So a brief history. I was a late bloomer with acne, it started getting bad my senior year of high school and peaked my freshman year of college. I had pimples all over my face, mostly on my cheeks, around my mouth, and my chin. They were those nice inflammed suckers with a white head you just want to pop. I assume the stress of going away to college had alot to do with it but I was a mess, and had a ton of scars. I started retina around november that year as a last ditch effort. My doctor ha

    Day 13

My first entry is written on the 26th of May, the 13th day I've been on Roaccutane. I only had the idea of documenting this journey today, but better late than never right? Oh and my dose for the first month and a half is 40mg per day. The first week on the pills went by pretty smoothly, no significant difference in my skin except for a little bit of dry, flaky skin on my nose and chin. My lips started drying very soon too, but I bought a jug of Vaseline to carry everywhere with me, and so fa

    End Of Week 2

So earlier this week I posted a half way post mid-week 2...still not sure if I was experiencing the initial breakout, or not, since most of the reviews I've read don't mention it until week 3...which I'm just about to embark on! Upped my dosage to 40mg today and will keep it so for another month before seeing my derm for a blood test and update on the treatment. I have switched my moisturiser to 'simple everyday moisture' as it's a little less oily and I don't think that the accutane ha

    End Of Week 5

Hello All, So, I feel confident enough to post a pic...before my roaccutane treatment began (check out that STONKER on my foehead!) and after 5 weeks. Happy to say that the results are great ! Still on the same skincare regime and not experiencing any flakiness on my face or dryness - so Body Shop's Vitamin E range is perfect for me. Seeing my derm this week for my first follow up appt, quite excited to hear her advice on my prescription, if she'll bump me up to 60mg a day. Still no

    End Of Week 6

Hello All, So I mentioned before that I was going to see my Derm this week to see where I was with my treatment etc. looks like my body is taking accutane very well, as my side effects are not as severe as what most people go through. 1. My initial breakout was a couple of big cysts, only lasting for just less than two weeks. Apparently some people can suffer from IB for a month. However, she did say that this can be curbed with antibiotics and it's rare that it should last that long -

    End Of Week 8

Hola All, Merry Christmas!! I hope you all celebrated in style with lots of family and loved ones! My apologies - I have missed Week 7 as I have been on holiday in China over Christmas and a lot of websites are banned there, including this one! However I am pleased to say that all is still going well with the treatment. I am starting to notice more severity in the side effects, my hands are starting to crack and I'm having to moisturise them as much as my lips...(accutane still has N

    Dianette Diary

After staying clear on Yasmin for 2 years, my acne flared up worse than ever 5 months ago regardless of the fact I was still taking my Yasmin religiously. Two months ago (almost) the docs and a private dermatologist changed me over to Dianette due to the Yasmin working so well for me the first time, however these hormones were no longer right for me anymore. I decided to make a log of my progress due to finding the logs of Dianette on here so helpful to read whilst I was waiting for my pil

    My Accutane Diary

Hi, I'm 20 years old, dealing with mild to moderate acne for about 7 years now. Tried many topical and antibiotics, birth control pill is the only one to make a difference but it comes with too many side effects for me so finally got put onto Accutane. Started last week on 20mg a day. I will be on 20mg for 2 weeks after which I will go up to 40mg until my next appointment with the dermatology nurse on the 1st June. Week one - I've been ill and so I don't know if some of the changes I've be
  10. Hey everyone I have just started roaccutane 40mg and i am going to share my experience with acne.org as a way to vent my frustrations on acne and hopefully support others with acne too. People sometimes see it as just a couple of spots and you will grow out of it, but at the age of twenty i am a bit fed up of waiting. It really does affect every part of your life, there is days it can get you really down and it most certainly affects your confidence. A little bit about myself is i a

    Doxycycline Diary

Hi everyone, I came across this site and like many others, decided to document my Doxycycline treatment. I was prescribed with Doxycycline (50mg) to take once a day with Epiduo gel to use on affected areas at night. I started my treatment about, nearly a month ago. I was very excited when my doctor prescribed me with medication, as I had tried every product and was really starting to give up as I had never had any actual results with anything. Throughout the past month, in the first week
  12. Update: It has been 26 days since I started Retin-A, and I am sorry I am late to the party. I have been on Accutane before and my dermatologist has advised I move onto Retin-A to maintain my skin. My thoughts so far on Retin-A have been positive. I definitely did get the initial breakout but it went away pretty quickly and my face is a lot more calmer. I am applying it every night on top of my moisturizer and I think that helps with the flakes and dryness. Initially, I did get flakes bu
  13. didn't think i was going to have to post in this section again i've been on roaccutane (30mg per day) for just under two months and got back from my first follow-up appointment with my dermatologist a few hours ago... i had thought that my skin had improved slightly, i mean it still looks pretty bad but i think some of the redness is from marks left by old spots. but he took one look at my face and said "that's not a good improvement at all" and i swear to god he might as well have just slapped

    Subcision

Hi All. After reading about subcision, I decided to give it a go. My doctor wanted to try the procedure on just one scar. So I chose the scar which looked like a 'dove' according to him, and he worked on that. That section where 'the dove' sat was anaesthetised and subcision was done. The only 'pain' i felt was the syringe when the anaesthetic was injected. The injection was more like an ant bite so it wasn't painful at all. As reported by previous users, I did feel/hear my skin being s

    End Of Week 4

Hello All, Week 4 on 40mg is done and dusted and I'm proud to say that things are looking up ! Big cysts have gone (I won't lie, when the bugger eventually popped...it was not pretty..) - they have left a dark mark, but these will fade in time, patience is a virtue. My face is SO SMOOTH, it's wonderful ! Once again, no major side effects, skin elsewhere on my body is fine, hands not dry really. Just lips and eyes that I struggle with, but just have to keep the drops and balm on me AT

    Accutane Diary - Week 1

Hello Guys & Girls, So, like many of the people on Acne.org, I have decided to start a week by week diary of my experience with Accutane. I had so many questions and concerns before starting the course, and I probably drove my Derm a little nuts with all of my endless questioning. I must have been on every site to do with acne and skin just to find out as much as possible as I could about other experiences with this so called 'miracle cure'. A little background, I have suffered
  17. Hey all, Typical acne story: I've had some form of it since I was 12-13ish and I won't say I've tried everything, but I've tried most over-the-counter drugs, topicals, natural remedies, etc. The last few things I've tried are Differin, herbal medicine, and vitamin e oil. For the past few weeks, I haven't been putting anything on my face other than a little bit of makeup (which is amazing and terrifing for me - I used to wear a thick layer daily) and washing with CeraVe cleanser. I have m

    Accutane Journey-Life Is Beautiful

Will be starting Accutane. If anyone is interested I will keep a log. Please comment on this if you are interested so I know it's well worth it. Thank you fellow beautiful sufferers.
  19. Hi there! I am a 21 year old woman, and I just started using acne.org. I'm from Denmark, so my english is not flawless I've always had unclear skin, starting in my teens, but it has been ok, I could keep it at bay with topicals and murad skincare. But then I got really sick with anorexia, and as I slowly gained weight again in recovery, my acne exploded. Never had bad cystic acne, but really really bad whitehead (inflamed) acne especially on my lower cheeks. It made me absolutel
  20. What foods don't cause acne? I'm trying to eat healthy but it seems like everything that I thought was healthy causes acne. Is there something I can eat for breakfast lunch dinner that doesn't cause acne. I heard diary meat some fruits some vegetables eggs bagels and other things cause acne. So I'm clueless on what to eat. Please help
  21. Background:Hi everyone! Acne for me started around the age of 12. I had tried every over the counter product, with no success. By grade 11, I was desperate and finally went to see my family doctor. I asked him for Benzaclin (Duac), as my sister had success with it. Benzaclin worked well for me, clearing up about 60% of my acne, but never making my skin fully clear. I was on it for 3 years, even though around the 2 year mark, it stopped making any difference what so ever. I went to a derm last we
  22. Hi Everyone! I have just started taking spironolactone so thought I would keep a diary here of how it is going! I have been on it since the 24th of April and have been taking 50mg a day. It was a really struggle getting it prescribed in England, but I nagged and nagged and showed my dermatologist lots of research and eventually persuaded her to let me give it a go. Some background, iv had acne since i was 11, i am now 26. I have been on countless antibiotics, contraceptive pills (dianet
  23. Hi guys! I'm pretty new to this forum and wanted to share my story of acne prone skin & my decision of going through the Tretinoin / Retin A regime. My problematic skin history started 4 years ago with me being 24 (my dermatologist back then called it 'adult acne' - thus probably hormonal acne). I never before had experienced cystic/hormonal acne in any form(except maybe a couple of blackheads on my nose but that's it!) and when I first got one cystic pimple I didn't know what it was an

    Acne Journal

I'm going to start writing how I feel about my acne, the products I use, what works and what doesn't, and anything else acne related. Feel free to post your thoughts on your own acne, or give me suggestions on how I can treat mine. Background info: I am fourteen years old and have been battling acne for what seems like forever (but really at the MOST probably 2 years). I pick my acne to the point that they've become hyperpigmentation scars. I avg about 7 hours of sleep a day. I usually eat s

    Accutane Day 3

ACCUTANE DIARY DAY 3 Dosage: 30mg, once a day: 1 pill 20mg, 1 pill 10mg. Symptoms: I have been experiencing rather uncomfortable muscle pain in my legs, stomach, back and arms. It is a sort of achey feeling that I have even at rest. I believe it is also related to my recent exercise (running) but it is much more intense than usual. No dryness as of now, but some sadness, and very brief headaches. Skin: Initial breakout? I have three new pimples on my face, very red and painful: cheek, chin and
