    Men And Hormonal Treatments

Hello, I was thinking about ways to combat DHT induced skin issues in men, and something came to me courtesy of some of my hardcore lifting acquaintances. The problem with men taking DHT inhibitors [something that either inhibits the alpha-5 reductase enzyme (Finasteride) or reduces uptake of DHT by cells (Saw Palmetto)] is that the lower DHT means that sometimes estrogen can become more dominant and cause feminizing problems like ED or gynocomastia. BUT, why can't we just take an aromatase

Dht And Its Role With Acne

I am 22 years old and I am a long time acne fighter. I have done countless hours of research on online forums and sites trying to figure out different ways to cure my acne. I for the most part have my acne under control with diet and basic healthy choices and have dramatically cleared up my acne by reducing the hormonal spike that happens from sugars and processed foods and replacing them with vegetables and probiotics. I still have one lingering problem however; Whenever I do heavy compound lif
  3. Some people were asking if licorice would interfere with the anti-androgen effects of spiro and it seems the answer is no. Hirsutism and acne are both caused by DHT sensitivity and this article below talks about a study in which women with hirsutism safely took both and still had less hair growth even at a high dose of licorice. The next link is a forum where licorice's mode of action is explained. It can work "with" spiro as an androgen blocker. http://drtorihudson.com/botanicals/licorice-re

    Hormonal Acne Advice!

Hello everyone! I know long post... please give it a read?:) Ok, so I’ve been reading this forum form or years. You all seem to be very educated and know what you’re talking about when it comes to acne. I’m really hoping there’s someone that can give me some advice or suggestions for my acne. So backstory... had acne since 13, mostly just whiteheads and some pastuels on my forehead. Never on the lower half of my face where the hormonal acne “should be”. That bothered me so very much t
  5. (short version: I'm taking Zinc to lower my estrogen and Peppermint to block androgens - good idea?) Hello I've always been puzzled how Zinc cures some people's acne but in me made some of my hormonal symptoms better and yet made other symptoms like (like acne & excess hair worse) Zinc seems to work by lowering estrogen and blocking DHT (androgens) But in some people, I read it can actually increase DHT I also remember a girl on here telling me she took Progesterone thera
  6. Hi, I'm on a second 3 month course of antibiotics that totally aren't working. My GP has referred me, saying I should go on accutane in a month if there's no improvement. My acne is moderate and is definitely caused by my severely oily skin. My skin produces so much sebum that I feel like no antibiotic or differin-type thing will ever help me unless I tackle the hormonal side of it. What's the best brand of saw palmetto + how do you guys recommend taking it? Does this 3000mg one look good
  7. hello guys, I'm starting this topic again because it's actually very pertinent to understand the common symptoms between people treated with 5ar inhibitors and the so called :"Post Finasteride Syndrom" I was in my life 4 times treated with Accutane here in Europe (Roaccutane as it is name here). Each cycle last about 9 to 12 months. Now, I have 42 years old and I have very law SHBG levels and accordingly an absence of libido. I went to visit an Endocrinologist who gave me my precise levels o
  8. These things have been found to be different in acne prone skin. This is specifically about what's going on in our skin, not about the various other factors going on elsewhere in our bodies that worsen the acne condition. For the most part, other people have those things happening too, they just don't get the symptom of acne. These are the differences between us and all your friends that can eat all the junk they want and make whatever other unhealthy lifestyle choices and even have other horm
  9. In this topic, it was explained that on the 7th day of abstaining from masturbation there is a testosterone spike in males of up to 147%: http://www.acne.org/messageboard/index.php/topic/241253-testosterone-levels-spike-7-days-after-abstaining-from-masturbation/ Many acne sufferers here confirmed that they always had breakouts sometime around the 7th day of abstaining. But I have a more in depth question for you guys: What if you were to abstain for a long period of time, lets say a mo
  10. Greetings from Bangkok, Thailand. I will try to make this as short as possible. I'm 34 years old, male. I had been on Accutane for 3-4 courses. The first 2 courses I used Roaccutane by Roche. The first course was only 6 months and I was taking 20 mg every 2 days. I do not want to count this as a course because only 45 days after the derm put me off it, acne returned. The 2nd time was good. I was acne free for 2.5 years. The 3rd time I switched to a Chinese brand. Acne f

    My acne cure after pill

hey there I have literally never posted on an acne forum however I have trawled this forum and all over the internet for the past few years and can finally say my acne is under control (touch wood). I thought I would share on here what worked for me in the hope it might help others suffering! Basically, my story is the same as so many people - I came off the pill after around 10 years (dianne 35) and all of a sudden my face, and my back was a mess! I tried everything dietary first - I tried gi
  12. I started taking Nizoral shampoo (active ingredient ketoconazole) a couple of weeks ago. I think around the 22nd of October. So it's been a couple of weeks now. I think it's an anti-fungal and anti-dandruff shampoo and i have been using it on my face and scalp after a shower. I remember seeing it being mentioned as somehow working for acne as well, i think it is supposed to be a DHT inhibitor, or something like that, it can reduce sebum production maybe. I have never bothered with it in the
  13. Recently, two studies were performed to measure the potential of green tea in acne. The findings of these recent studies show that when applied to the affected area, green tea can reduce sebum production, inflammation and bacterial growth in acne-prone skin, as a result of an antioxidant called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). The first study findings The more recent of the studies appeared in the December 2012 issue of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and showed that green tea helps
  14. WHY ANTIBIOTICS ARE NOT THE ANSWER TO ACNE by DR JOHN BRIFFA, Daily Mail Acne often causes considerable distress to sufferers, and while it is most common around puberty, it can affect adults, women in particular, well into their 20s and 30s. One mainstay medical treatment is antibiotics. However, Swedish research presented at an American conference last week suggests the bacterium associated with many cases is becoming increasingly resistant to these drugs. There is real concern that
  15. Hi all, I'm Thai, 33 years old. I was introduced to Roaccutane when I was about 18 years old. I didn't have cysts but antibiotics didn't seem to work for me well enough so the derm gave me Roaccutane, 20mg, to take every 2 days for 6 months. Only 1 month after he stopped it, the acne came back so I decided to see another derm. She was using it too lol...she told me if I took it at a very low dose like 20 mg per week I can even take it forever. She lowered the dosage for me, from 10 mg pe
  16. Hi, as per title: If you have taken Nizoral shampoo [ketoconazole] how long did it take to work before you started to notice an improvement with your acne? Did you have an initial breakout? Do you think an initial breakout would be possible from Nizoral considering what ever the mechanisms are that help with acne etc. Cheers.
  17. Recently because of a college bugdet and food restrictions, I had to go off paleo and most of my supplements so my acne has declined a bit. I also don't have access to fish as much which I believe helped me out alot before. I was very frustrated about my situation in college but soon discovered that if I didn't drink any liquids with meals, onlly 2 hours before and after, i could keep my acne at a much more manageable level. It still is way worse than I would want it, but it has helped me recove

    New Experiment For Oily Skin

I tend not to post about new products or regimens until after I've gotten results from them, but I'm hoping that posting this will help me stick to my newest regimen. I'm about to start using 6 new products on the right side of my nose for 2 months to see if they reduce the amount of sebum that my skin produces. I did a similar experiment with peppermint oil last year, which yielded some noteworthy results: The products I'm using contain a number of ingredients that are purported to eit

Many men and women suffer adult acne in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and beyond. Adults with acne often have hormonal imbalances that linger after puberty, and these imbalances create disfiguring acne. Quick Review on Hormones The main sex hormones are testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. Men and women have all three hormones in

    Acne Cause And Cure

If acne (and hair loss) are controlled by elevated dihydrotestosterone, via conversion from bioavailable testosterone by 5 alpha-reductase. Then some factor(s) most control an increased 5 alpha-reductase activity. In women with PCOS scientist has found higher triglycerides and VLDL-cholesterol (1). In both males and females with androgenic alopecia, scientists came to same conclusion (and also found lower HDL-C values compared to control)(2) In acne patients some scientist found the same thing
  21. Prolactin increases 5-alpha-reductase which is an enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT. DHT is known to cause acne. Prolactin levels between acne patients and "healthy" patients did not differ significantly by much in clincal studies but in patients with acne, the level of Prolactin was directly associated with the severity of acne. Zinc is known to lower prolactin which may be why some people find relief with zinc supplements. Masturbation/sex/orgasm also increases Prolactin which may be

  23. So i have high levels of DHT. I`m male, 21 years old. This is why i get acne. I tried all topicals, vitamins, antibiotics (but not on Accutane) and i can`t get rid of acne because it is related to high DHT. What cures me is saw palmetto, but since i`m male it`s risky to take 560 mg of saw palmetto daily for long time. I`m currently taking: 100.000 UI Vitamin A daily 4000 UI Vitamin D3 45 MG Zinc 560 MG Saw Palmetto (if stopping this, inflamed pimples appear on the cheeks) 100% Daily Rec

    Masturbation Anew!

Im starting a new masturbation restriction log. I am aware that there are several others already but they are a bit crowded and I wanted to find a few people willing to try this with me. The longest I have gone was 2 weeks and I saw noticeable improvement in my skin. To be positive, Im going to go for at least 2 months and then indefinitely. My info: Male, 17, acne since 15, moderately severe, dad & grandpa had it, soy free diet that emphasizes raw fruits & veggies, haven't tried accutan
