  1. The rundown: I've been on aldactone (no less than 50 mg, 100 mg for a while) since September 2009. I am in the end-run of laser hair removal (taken up to help with acne, and just in general). I am half-Asian, have light to medium skin tone, and have still suffered serious, semi-permanent hyperpigmentation due to the lasers and aldactone. During two years of Accutane, I NEVER experienced the awful pitting, inelasticity, and permanent red/purple marks and bumpiness/bad texture I did on a

    Initial Breakout On Bcp

I have had mild acne for most of my college years until 2 months ago when I switched from Loestrin 24 Fe to Kariva (generic brand of Mircette). The first month was fine (no real change in acne) and then mid second month my face broke out like crazy! Pimples all over forehead, cheeks, chin. I've never had pimples on my cheeks until this BCP. Should I stick it out for the last month? Is it normal to have a breakout like this 2 months in? I also didn't get my period this past month. I'm afra
  3. I'm curious which birth control pill females have had success with for combating acne? I'm wanting to change mine because I believe mine actually is making mine worse. I'm on loestrin fe 1/20 (2 years), which from reading through some other posts seems it can make acne worse! I only breakout near my jawline and chin. I could go without washing my face and still wouldn't break out on my forehead or cheeks, which makes me think my acne really is just hormonal. I used YAZ when I was 17 but my mom h
  4. Hey all! Wow... So I can't believe I'm back on this site 10 years after I signed up. Back in 2006 when the Acne.org Regimen didn't even exist. Crazy! Well, I'm 26 years old now and sad to say I'm still not finished with this whole acne thing. Shortly after I joined in 2006, I found a treatment that worked for me - birth control pills. It was obvious that my acne was hormonal (I had the painful cystic kind around my chin/mouth area) so BCP was the perfect solution for my skin. I have been cl
  5. Hi! I just started takling yasminelle 5 days ago. My doctor prescribed it because I am really self concious about my mild acne. I have been reading such horrible things in here about this pill, so I want to know this; if I my skin reacts badly to the pill, when will that happen? would it have happened right away? I am very nervous and considering to quit it already because I am scared that my skin will freak out. please help, thanks
  6. I went to my first EVER dermatologist appointment today, and was prescribed Epiduo. I am also taking Ortho Tri cyclen (for about 5 months now) BCP. I have mild adult acne (It was moderate, but my initial breakout from the Ortho Tri is over, and it's slowly improving) Never had acne as a teen; just started getting it about 6 months ago, at 25 years old. I've been reading a lot of good reviews about Epiduo on here, however, I am terrified of an initial breakout. I am still recovering from m
  7. Wondering if anyone can help me.. I have been on Yasmin for nearly 8 months for birth control and to help with acne. However, when I recently went to get another pack of pills, they told me Yasmin is now called Lucette. After some research I found out that Lucette is actually a completely different pill that has the same active ingredients as Yasmin but is much cheaper to produce and therefore more cost effective for the NHS. At first I was annoyed that I was lied to by the doctor, but I'm willi

    Dianette Diary

After staying clear on Yasmin for 2 years, my acne flared up worse than ever 5 months ago regardless of the fact I was still taking my Yasmin religiously. Two months ago (almost) the docs and a private dermatologist changed me over to Dianette due to the Yasmin working so well for me the first time, however these hormones were no longer right for me anymore. I decided to make a log of my progress due to finding the logs of Dianette on here so helpful to read whilst I was waiting for my pil
  9. Hey, friends! I thought I'd make this thread in hopes of potentially helping someone - possibly? Or just sharing. I got some test results back from the naturopath today - I did a blood test for food allergens and a saliva hormone test. The doc told me I have the classic hormone profile for someone "suffering" (I don't like that word, even if it feels like that sometimes!) from breakouts. My testosterone level is at the tip-top of what's considered "high" for my age range; my DHEA levels are
  10. 1. Type of Progestin Every birth control uses progestin (a synthetic form of the progesterone hormone). There are many different types of progestin. It is very important that the type of progestin is LOW in androgenic activity, meaning it doesn't send your testosterone into overdrive and create acne. Here is a list to help choose a birth control. Neutral (won't affect acne either way) No hormones. Copper Paraguard IUD Good (can reduce acne) Drospirenone. Anti-androgenic. Used in Yaz, Yas
  11. I'll skip the novel about my 15 year battle with acne and fast forward to 2015. I have mild to moderate cystic acne on the lower part of my face- mostly the chin and jawline. In March I was prescribed Spiro by my derm, but quickly developed severe cystic breakouts. After 3 months of being miserable and peeing constantly, I gave up. There was no sign it was getting any better- and a few weeks after I stopped, my breakouts calmed down to pre-spiro level. In August I went on Yaz (not generic). I

    Dianette For Acne

Hello guys! Really hoping for some help on here of someone whos used Dianette for acne treatment Firstly, heres a little background story. Started to get mild acne when I was 16, so went straight to the docs and put on Yasmin. Worked amazingly for 2/3 years up till I was about 19 and had good skin throughout. However, at 19, my skin absolutely exploded with sore, scar causing acne. I was so confused as I was still taking my Yasmin religiously however the docs informed me that your hormones
  13. Hi, I just wanted to ease my mind regarding the effects of stopping birth control pills especially on the skin which is usually acne breakouts. I have been on Alesse 28 for 4 months only. I am just wondering if anyone who took pills for a few months still got bad acne breakouts? I’m quitting BC pills this week but I’m also scared about its side effects. Please help me. Thanks : (
  14. I started posting to this site over 7 years ago. I had perfect skin in high school. Some family traumas caused me to develop skin issues which started at age 20. By age 25, I had moderate-severe cystic acne. What had I tried? Different antibiotics, topicals, Accutane, BCPs...etc. I tried it all. Saw multiple homeopaths and naturopaths. And then what? I'm still fighting some skin issues at 33 years of age. Last year I did a Co2 laser to fix many scars I was left with. The scars are still there
  15. Hi all, I am a new member, but I have been lurking for years. I would like to get everyone's opinion on deciding what to do next for my mild acne that I know for a fact is hormonal. Yasmin or SP for the rest of my life or the nucleer bomb that is called accutane once and for all? Which one is the lesser of the evils? Here's my story: I am a 25 year old female who had been battling with mild persistant acne(always a few deep cysts present, along with a few surface acne) since 1
  16. Hey guys..which of the above is the stronger anti androgen? Spiro or Diane-35 (Cyproterone Acetate) Tried researching it but there's not much info.
  17. Hi all. I'm extremely frustrated, my skin looks pretty terrible when I'm not on the "right" BCP. However, other than the possible skin benefits, I can't deal with all the other terrible side-effects. I already broke down once and started taking it again because I was so fed up with my skin, I don't want to do that again. What can I do to help my skin that doesn't involve BCP? I believe the main problem is the horrible oiliness, because if it wasn't for that, I don't think the acne would show
  18. I'm looking through the archives but I was hoping to get some advice through this. I've posted about this before, but I've been on 50 mg (100 for a while) since September 2009, when I was 23. Now I'm 26, on 50 mg, still get cysts, nodules, and papules on my cheeks (especially around my period), and worse, I feel the recurring zits never really heal...just shrink between periods. My skin is horribly inelastic (all over--limbs too, not just face. Cuts, bruises and makes all take too long to he

    Spironolactone And Yaz

Hello, this is my first forum post! A little background on me, I'm 29 years old and have been dealing with moderate to severe cystic acne for many years, with a few good years in between. I've been on and used just about every acne medication under the sun. I've been on Accutane twice. I came off my last treatment about 10 months ago. The results lasted about 5-6 months but the last 4-5 months, it's been coming back. I was on Trisprintec and minocycline for a few months and that sorta seemed
  20. I've dealt with problematic skin for most of my teen years, only now at 25 I am seeming to get the hang of it and have had very clear skin for quite some time. A big contributor to my skin finally clearing was Spironolactone. I was put on spironolactone 100mg for about 4 months which worked wonders for me but I was nervous staying on a medication for too long so after my major breakouts went away and my skin was finally looking beautiful I went off the Spironolactone and just stayed with Yasmin.

    Acne Before And After Yasmin

Hi everyone! I'm 19 years old and suffering from moderate acne. I don't have cystic acne, and I'm not sure if it's hormonal or not, but I only have it on my face, specifically my forehead, cheeks, and my nose. Most of it is really red and blotchy, and only a few have come to a head as whiteheads. I have some blackheads too, but they seem to be the same ones I've had for years, that just haven't gone away. My face started breaking out when I was about 12 and I tried tons of commercial products

    Coming Off Dianette

Hey there, Been on Dianette for 6 months now. Only in the past month or two has it really cleared my skin, so i'm really happy with it. However, after my Doctors appointment yesterday he said i must come off the pill after the next 3 month package, taking me to 9 months. However this is just before my holidays so i'd really like to stay on it just another 2 months to take me to 11 months? Is this too long? Has anyone been on Dianette for ages? Before Dianette I was on Yasmin, which I ha
  23. I just started taking a new prescription of Spironolactone (100mg a day) and I've been on Ocella birth control for years. My period is always on time. This month, since starting spiro after my last period, it seems to be late by a day. I could get it tomorrow and have but I always have a sign of it by today at the latest. I have only read that people take bcps to make their periods regular while on spiro. Could it still be the spiro? Im sexually active so I would like to know what's up.
  24. Hello Everyone! So most of you will be aware that the diagnosis for Polycystic Ovaries can be confusing and depends on a lot of symptoms (which may not all be present) and factors (such as which Doctor you see) etc. For example, I was diagnosed over a year ago because my blood tests showed that my testosterone levels were too high and my periods were very irregular (and I suffer with acne which was my biggest/main concern) however when I had my ultrasound there was only one small cyst which
