  1. So I had a big cyst and it left a hole that has been slooooowly healing. I'm about 5 or 6 weeks into healing now. There is still redness and even a little sensitivity at the center (it is closed)...the indentation is gradually rising, but I'm not sure if it's going to make it all the way (?). Staring "atrophy" right in the face. No pun intended... In the case it doesn't and I'm left with some sort of rolling indentation, I've been reading up on my options to treat. I've seen a number of posts
  2. I have some long lasting scarring on my forehead which has been severely affecting my confidence. I’ve attached some clear photos, there is one boxcar like scar which is about one sheet of paper deep and bothers me the most. Could anybody suggest treatment options for this? I have recently started using Tretinoin 0.025% + Clindamycin for blocked pores but not sure it will help with this wide atrophic scar? Thank you!
  3. Hey, can anyone review my acne and tell me how i should treat it? Any help would be much appreciated

  5. I just saw this clinical study. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4375771/ The before after pics look real good. They use a combination of retinoic acid and glycolic acid 12%. "At the end of 12 weeks, significant improvement in acne scars was noticed in 91.4% of the patients." I am thinking of trying this.
  6. How Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) Reduces Acne Scars (and May Also Help with Acne)

Introduction to TCA How TCA Works on Acne Scars How TCA May Work on Acne TCA Side Effects Efficacy of TCA on Acne Scars and on Acne Summary Introduction to TCA Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is an acid mainly used for the treatment of acne scars, and not acne itself. However, certain properties of TCA may enable it to treat acne. Since TCA is used for the treatment of acne scars, there are not many studies on...
  7. Wound Healing in the Skin

Stage 1: Blood Clotting Stage 2: Inflammation Stage 3: Healing Stage 4: Remodeling Acne Healing The Bottom Line The skin is a complex organ that serves as the body's first protective barrier against the environment. Because the skin is such an important barrier, it must be able to heal itself quickly after an injury, whether the injury is a cut or an acne lesion. The wound healing process is quite complicated. To understand how it works,...
  8. Does Isotretinoin Help with Acne Scars?

Isotretinoin, often known by its brand name, Accutane®, is an oral drug for treating severe acne. It dramatically lowers skin oil production and can provide long-term remission of acne in about 2/3 of people.1,2 However, isotretinoin also comes with serious side effects, including the risk of birth defects, so you should perform extensive research before deciding whether to take it. You may have heard people mention that isotretinoin might reduce existing acne scars as well. However,...
  9. Hi everybody! This is the first time I write on this forum. Like most of you I struggled with acne when I was younger and I was left with some scars. Now I am 25 years old and I live in Italy. Could you please help me identifying the type(s) of my scars? I think I have rolling on my cheeks and 2 boxcars on my forehead but I'm not sure. Also what is the severity of my scars (mild/severe)? I took the photos after shaving and in the worst possible light (normally they don't look that bad). Whic
  10. Hi, I have two scars (out of four) I'm thinking of dermarolling. One is 1 year & 1 month old and the other is 1 year 6 months old. I wonder if the skin is still growing trying to fill in. Does demarolling get in the way of surface skin regrowing? I think I will consult a doctor soon but wanted to get other people's thoughts on this. Thanks.

Who does Subcision good for scars?
  12. Hello everyone, Spring break i suffered with a hormonal break out that left me with a few indented scars that are a mix between boxcars and icepicks. Anyways, Currently i have been applying tea tree oil to the scars to make that skin dry out and cause it to peel the next day. This has caused the scarred skin to dry out forcing the skin to peel. It is helping immensely to "fill in" or create new skin to replace the existing dried scar tissue once it peels off. I thought that this needed to be a
  13. Hi, I'm keen to treat a single red and indented acne scar (3 months old) and I'm now 40 so wondering what will work on mature skin? I'd really like this scar treated as I think I made the healing cyst worse by over exfoliating when I was stressed one day so seeing it in the mirror is a constant reminder of that day. I only want the scar area treated though. Anyone had any success at this age? I have no experience of treating scars (despite 20 years of acne). So far I've only used 5%
  14. I have logged onto this forum after years because I just really needed somewhere to vent (hopefully this will be cathartic). I'm not sure what I'm looking for from starting this thread - I guess I'm looking to see if people have ever felt the same way as reassurance that I'm not alone in this? About a year ago, I started a stressful (but very exciting!) job and my acne (cystic) flared up again - and today I found I'm just about to have a huge atrophic scar owing to this massive cyst on my f
  15. What can be done? It looks horrible in certain angle and light and people tell me is not bad but they dont see the scar i see. Anyone have similiar scar and successful result in certain method treating it? Some light and angle it look almost not there but certain look like a deep cut. Night light
  16. Introduction: Hi, I am 25yo, Hispanic, male, olive skin tone, and have had acne on face and chest for ~10 years. I'm also new here and so am not sure if similar posts have been made in the past. Please redirect me if you are aware of any! (I am in NYC as well so any dermatologist suggestions in the area would be welcome as well!) Summary/ Question: I have had acne on my face and chest for a number of years. On my face it is very mild to non-existent and have virtually 0 scarring from what I
  17. Hello guys! Need help to figure out if this is a permanent scar and how bad it is. Thanks!
  18. Tracking progress of my subcision treatments and a few other at home treatments. Lots of additional progress pictures and a video of me stretching and animating my left cheek in my albums. Subcision was performed with 18 gage and 20 gage needles, saline was injected after the subcision. Before/After 2 subcision treatments: (8/9/2016) and (1/10/2017) (8/9/2016) and (1/10/2017) (8/9/2016) and (1/10/2017) (8/9/2016) and (1/10/2017) Approximately 3 hours after 1st subcision:
  19. Hey guys, I'm a guy who lived a normal life until after my 16th birthday. Then my acne became worse and worse. I tried literally everything, every soup, tried to change my diet radically, tried TONS of acne products, I even bought an Antiacne warmth machine that would help significantly for 350 dollars. It didn't help shit. I got so much acne in a few months that most people don't get in their lives. My face was like a volcano. I even used make-up to hide some of the worst acne. When people as
  20. I'm currently using Doxycycline and Aczone as antibiotics, and I was on Atralin until I realized it was exfoliating to the point of digging up previously healed atrophic scars! Therefore, I stopped using it. I told my derm, and she said she couldn't see the scars too well and they should 'fill in' nicely. Whatever there. But she prescribed me Finacea instead. Gathering from what I've heard, it's good for rosacea and acne...but it sorta does the same thing as a retinoid, right? It exfoliates the
  21. Hi all! I'm gonna have subcision with fillers for my cheeks in about 3 weeks. I'm coming here so I can learn to manage my expectations. Do any of the experienced users here think this is a good treatment for my scars and what results can I expect? Should I combine this treatment with something else or is it enough on its own? My doctor said the filler will last for about a year, but that the skin will have healed at a higher level by then. Sorry for making a selfish post I'm just kind of ner
  23. Anybody have any updates on Niacid? I've written a comment on their facebook page asking why they haven't released more before/after videos or pics that show how Niacid helps to raise indentations and that the ones posted by the users are unreliable because clearly taken with a different angle, lighting, zoom ecc and that also all the before/after pics taken by users (despite being unreliable) only show improvement in clearing out hyperpigmentation and improving skin texture and not raise
  24. Hey guys, Attached below are pictures of both my cheeks under both regular and angular lighting. Could you please have a look at the pictures and tell me how they would be classified based on type (atrophic, hypertrophic, rolling, boxcar?) and severity (mild, moderate, severe?). Also, could you please advise me the best course of action to take regarding improving these scars like subcision, fillers, TCA, lasers, etc? I'm a 19 year old male of Asian Indian descent and have recently got my a
  25. Hi everyone I was just wondering whether "gentle" chemical peels (by that I mean alpha hydroxy acid peels) have an effect on (very) small atrophic scars? I haven't discovered any success stories yet, so does this mean they are basically useless?! However, I've been using a tretinoin/isotretinoin cream for about a year now and it has improved my skin and made my scarring less visible. I don't get pustules anymore, but I do have loads of whiteheads and tiny scars. What I would like to
