  1. Today was Day 20 on Spiro (75 mg), Benzoyl Peroxide face wash (PanOxyl 4%), and Atralin gel, aka topical retinoid (0.05%)! Overall, things are improving My face is doing so, so much better. The pink mark on my left cheek from that stubborn zit is fading and healing. There's a small pink mark on my right cheek that's fading. And there's a bit of a red mark healing on my lower chin/jaw from a pore that purged an acne seed yesterday. Right now, my complexion looks so much better! It's mor
  2. Hey everyone! So I'm doing pretty good right now (knock on wood. knock on wood. knock on wood). Summary of weeks 1,2, and almost week 3: Week 1 - Drying out. Skin shedding its top layer. Starting to get small bumps/ more zits. Week 2 - INITIAL BREAKOUT. Happened to forehead first, then in different sections of my face. Broke out on forehead, nose, chin, then right cheek, then left cheek, then chin again a bit, then right jawline, now left jawline a bit. Tons of small bumps, more zits, a
  3. I still have a good amount of blocked pores and inflammation. My Dr upped my dose to 80mg Solodyn and 5% tretinoin (Atralin) and added Aczone (morning cream) to my regimen. I've read good things about to Aczone, and my doctor said I should see good results in about 3 to 4 weeks with this new regimen. I am excited to see how things go. *Fingers crossed!*
  4. Hey everyone! I started Atralin to try and help clear the persistent pimples around my mouth and chin. However, a week after starting my entire face is breaking out. They told me about the purging period that was common but it's frustrating to actually go through. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you stick it out? Did anything help? Any input would be super helpful and welcome. Thank you!
  5. Okay, so I guess I should give a little background first. I'm a 21 year old female, I've always dealt with very, very mild back acne and occasionally a few pimples near my collarbone where my sports bra sits (I run a couple miles for exercise every day, but take a shower right after). Anyway, I started taking birth control about 10 months ago (ortho tricyclen) and like clockwork, every 2nd or 3rd week of the pack i would break out in tons of tiny red pin-prick looking acne spots on my chest an
  6. So, let me give you a little history on my acne. I've had acne since I was about 14. Since then, I've always worked hard to keep it at bay and had been successful. Until I turned 25. I don't know what happened, but I started to get these tiny bumps all over my face. It progressively got worse over the span of a year, and it led me to visit a dermatologist. The derm said that it seemed to be hormonal, and proscribed me 50mg of spironolactone, Acanya in the AM, and Atralin at night. My init
  7. I'm trying to use my Atralin several times a week and really loving the way my skin is looking but it's very sensitized and peels. My normal products are Vivite which is a medical grade line that contains Glycolic & Salicylic so I can't use them while using Atralin. I got CeraVe and really like it BUT it does not remove the Heavy Make-up I wear to cover my acne & pigmentation issues. I even read a product review about it and they said the same thing. Not good to remove make-up.
  8. Tomorrow marks 7 months of this regimen: Topical retinoid- Atralin brand (0.05%) a pea-size amount, applied once per night, 30 mins after applying moisturizer and letting it sink in to my skin. Also, I've been taking 75 mg of Spironolactone each morning, and one pill of Ortho Tri-Cyclen. My skin has been a rollercoaster of purging, healing, and then being clear. But I have to say that my face continues to improve, week by week. Some weeks are better than others, though. I've had my period more
  9. Sigh. I just can't seem to buck up today. I have one weird red bump-ish thing on my left cheek that doesn't want to go away. It's painful to touch, so I'm not even going to mess with it. I'm just going to try to forget it's there and apply concealer over it. My red mark on my forehead is healing (thank goodness). There's still a small red bump/clogged pore on my right cheek. I'm hoping that my regimen tonight will either make it turn into a whitehead and go away, or dry it up. Otherwise
  10. At the beginning of this year, I started noticing these tiny bumps on my face around my mouth and chin. They weren't red bumps, just tiny flesh colored bumps. They didn't bother me too much but I decided to go to a derm to see what was causing them. My derm said it was "baby acne" and prescribed me Atralin. I started applying it on the 29th of April, a pea sized dab to the area every night before bed. It is now May 26th, and I stopped applying it completely about 5 days ago. My skin had gotten s
  11. From the album: retin-a micro: worth the wait? I took a picture of my face every week for 4 months

When I first started writing this post at the beginning of the summer, I was in the throes of the initial breakout caused by starting topical retinoids. Hyper-keratinized plugs and god-knows-what-else built up in my pores, and now the retinoid was forcing it out. My face erupted in multiple places with huge, swollen bumps. As each lesion resolved, 2or 3 new ones would begin forming on skin still red and tender from the previous weeks breakout. The only thing keeping me sane was this: I have a pr
  12. So today is officially Day 14 using this new regimen! (I've been on the Spiro at 75 mg for 8 days total, since I worked my way up). I had a bit of a bummer weekend with new zits/healing spots. However, things seem to be looking up. Skin update - one healing spot on my forehead, one on my left chin, one on my right cheek, and one on my left cheek (but a lot smaller/less red than last night). There is a small zit on my left cheek that kinda hurts and won't go away. I'm not even messing w
  13. Here's some background: For the past 8+ years, I tried everything--all different types of face washes/ scrubs/ masks/etc. Nothing ever really seemed to work. My Accutane ExperienceFinally, last year, I decided to start Accutane. I was on Accutane for 3 months, but stopped because of the side effects. I waited a few months and restarted Accutane and was on it for about 6 months (40 -60 mg per day). I had a REALLY rough Initial Breakout (IB) with Accutane within the first couple of months &amp
  14. For more background on why I'm no longer on Accutane, check out my profile or first blog post "No Longer on Accutane. Started a New Regimen." The Reason for My Current Regimen (How it Works): To control an excess amount of Testosterone from being absorbed into the blood (on a regular basis) but also during that time of the month, she has prescribed Spironolactone. I took 1 pill (25 mg) for 3 days & then 2 pills for 3 days for my body to get used to it. I will now stay at 3 pills each d
  15. I know I haven't been on here for a while.. I wanted to log on post an update on how my skin is doing because most Solodyn logs I saw were incomplete and no ending results were noted. So, anyway, I was on Solodyn 60mg and Ziana for 2 months. I was still getting some inflammation and clogged pores. Then, my Dr put me on Atralin, Aczone, and Solodyn 80mg for 2 months. After those 2 months of the new regimen, my skin looks 99% better! My derm told me that I can start taking the Solodyn 80mg every o
  16. It's been 1 month (aka 28 days) of using this regimen! Regimen: (75 mg Spironolactone/day, Benzoyl Peroxide facewash in AM (PanOxyl 4%), and Topical Retinoid aka Tretinoin gel at night (Atralin gel 0.05%) Summary of the Past 4 Weeks:When I first started the regimen, my dried out and shed quite a bit. Then in week 2, I broke out like crazy on my forehead, nose, and chin. Then my left cheek purged some clogged pores, followed by my chin, followed by my right jawline. My right jawline is sti
  17. Aczone and atralin 10 weeks in: Flaking and dry patches mainly near chin area but not breaking out there. Breakouts occur mostly on lower cheeks, with widespread closed comedones. Lots of hyperpigmentation. I have pics posted in the gallery. I think the main issue here is the flaking, which is probably why my skin hasn't improved very much. I haven't been exfoliating these past few weeks and i feel like its something I need to incorporate into my regimen. I just haven't found a gentle, effect
  18. I've used this site for many years for advice on OTC fixes for my acne, but nothing was working and I broke down and went to the dermatologist. I'm 27 and have only recently had terrible cystic acne, breaking out around my periods. I have had mild to moderate acne since I went off birth control about a year and a half ago and switched to an IUD without hormones. I thought it might resolve once my hormones sorted themselves out, but the acne has just gotten worse over time. I've been prescrib
  19. Hi Guys, so I've been reading tons of forums about retin a and how it works but I figured I would write my own post and see if anyone else has similar acne. So in middle school, I had closed comedones all over my face! It was seriously so gross and nothing worked. I never went to a dermatologist but I've tried a lot of over the counter like proactive and clean & clear, etc. Anyway, my face cleared as I got older. I seriously had great skin. I never wore makeup and I always got compliments on
  20. I'm new to these message boards but I was just wondering if anyone has any comments on the following: I am seventeen years old and I have moderately severe acne. I was prescribed doxycycline to take twice a day, Prascion to wash my face with daily and Atralin to put on at night. So far I am not seeing much improvement. Is this normal? Has anyone used this particular combination? Does anyone have any experience with any of the medications listed above? All advice would be helpful. Good luck to
  21. Hi there! So I am desperately in need of some help with my face, I have (for the most part) gotten my acne itself under control with a prescription, a pill form and I also use Atralin, a topical perscription. However, the marks and discoloration/red marks from postinflammatory erythema (at least I think that's what it is) as an aftermath are just as embarassing and terrible. I've researched face bleaching creams, vitamin c treatments, and many many more but I still do not feel confident to make
  22. Hey everyone! I really, really, really wish I had tried this regimen before resorting to Accutane last year, which didn't even cure my acne because it didn't target my face enough and didn't solve my problem of hormonal acne. Today was Day 24 of my regimen! My skin is doing SO well. Honestly, it's pretty crazy how much can change in just 3+ weeks! Actives- NONE! (knock on wood!) (I had one clogged pore on my left temple last night, but it purged and went away) Clogged pores- a couple? b
  23. The Past Few Days So the past few days there's been a deep zit on my left cheek that has been painful and stubborn. Yesterday, it looked like it might eventually turn into a whitehead. Last night I used warm compresses on it a few times and then continued with my usual regimen. But it didn't turn into a whitehead...at least not yet. It is smaller though, which is a bit of progress. The small red mark on my forehead is healing up, as are a couple of small ones along my jawline. Actives R
  24. Okay, so I'm frustrated. My face is in an initial breakout/ healing state and I'm annoyed. I have a mark healing on my left cheek, a small zit/bump under that, which won't seem to come to the surface. Yet, it hasn't gone away by applying benzoyl peroxide face wash/atralin. I have one red spot healing on my forehead. And I also have a small bump on my right cheek, which will probably surface and go away. One more red mark healing on my lower right chin from a random whitehead that appeared th
  25. My face broke out again... This time it was all under the skin and there was three of them and one was massive. I'm not sure why I broke out this way with acne all under the skin. It was really embarrassing and I'm still recovering from it. Right now they are scabbing up... at least they are drying out I guess. I am just ready to see improvement and stop breaking out! I keep thinking that my only resolution is to find another birth control.. Can someone please shed some light on this for me? I'm
