  1. Alright so 2014 was the toughest year for me, i was going through year 10 having already suffered with acne and it was slowly becoming severe acne, my dermatologist tells me. that's no exaggeration, it had suddenly spread to my cheeks from my forehead and chin and there were cysts everywhere. Anyway, after many medications My dermatologist prescribed me a 6 month course of Tetralysal (Lymecycline) before the last resort, accutane. I am now 4 months into my course and things were better than eve
  2. hey guys, i have been on erythromycin for about a week now and my pimples seem to be getting 'worse' I'm breaking out more, and it just doesn't seem to be having any effect? how long should i wait for it to start to kick in before I go back and see my GP?
  3. Hello. So, I am 21 yrs old and have been on Doxycycline (prescribed) for about one and a half month. I have cystic acne, Grade 2- which is around moderate. I have twice had cystic acne when I was about 15 and then 18, and now it has come back at 21. Both the times I went to the dermatologist since my face used to hurt because of my acne and both the times I was prescribed with Doxycycline, which worked great for me, almost immediately. But this time its taking longer than usual. As I was educ
  4. I'm 19 years old, and I've been struggling with acne since 7th grade. It's September now and last March I finally got fed up enough with being ashamed of my face's breakouts (including all of acne scars) and went to the dermo. My doctor gave me adapalene .03% (off brand diferin) and climdamycin phosphate 1% pads. After about a 7 weeks of using that with little change, I went back to her and she prescribed aczone along with it. Another 7 weeks went by still with bad break outs. She added the ora
  5. Okay so I'm 14 and yeah... I'm a girl. A couple months ago I went on proavtiv and it cleared my skin for like a week then it started to come back. I did some research and decided to do the whole no wash caveman thing and that really didn't do anything besides make my face extremly flaky. I did the Ocm for about a week after that and it made my skin worse. Now I'm back on proactiv and its not helping much. Its making new zits shrink faster but thats about it. My sister has some retin-a that we go

    Minocycline?

I went to a dr about my acne for the first time yesterday. She won't refer me to a dermatologist, but she barely looked at me and prescribed minocyclin and also a cetaphil cleanser, 10%benzoyl peroxide cleanser, and a cetaphil moisturizer. I'm happy with the topical products prescribed but I've only had two doses of the mino and need to take the third but I'm kind of afraid to because my head and ears have had intense aching pressure all day, really bad and also all I want to do is sleep. I just

    Alternatives To Antibiotics?

I've had really bad acne starting in elementary school. It wasn't that bad at first, a zit here and there, but it progressively got worse and two years ago my face became covered in acne. I have no idea what triggered it, because beforehand my acne was limited to my chin and forehead. Recently it's expanded to my back, chest, cheeks, everywhere basically. My doctor prescribed antibiotics for me, which worked. All last year I was completely acne free. However, I didn't want to be dependent on a
  8. I've been applying Epiduo for about 6 weeks now and I recently had my appointment with my dermatologist. He said that it slightly improves acne. When I first started Epiduo, even my face wash was irritating and burning my face when applying but it hasn't anymore. I still have flakiness and dryness around my mouth area and jaw line. My acne is still red and irritated. I don't see much improvement at all but my dermatologist recently put me on Doxycycline and I'm taking 100mg twice a day. My face
  9. Hi everyone, I am slowly starting to see the effect of eating nutrient dense food and sleeping on time waking up early. I am in no way clear. But I get 1-2 spots compared to a warzone my face was about 2 months ago. ven few days of being absolutely clear.. I will be having a surgery tomorrow and the doctors have told me they would have to give me an antibiotic for a week when I am healing to prevent infections. I feel my acne issues started when my gut got weak while on a dose of ant

    Spiro Vs. Antibiotics

Has anyone taken both Spiro and Antibiotics--at different times? I had a lot of reactions from antibiotics, although they made my skin clear, and my stomach is now very sensitive to medications. I want to try Spiro instead and was wondering if it caused anyone to have stomach problems like nausea, gastritis, or esophagitis? Basically, has Spiro had fewer stomach-related side effects than antibiotics for you guys? I'm desperate and I want Spiro to work! Also, Spiro reduces the amount of androg
  11. So I’ve been taking a generic form of yaz birth control continuously (meaning I take only active pills to not get a period) for a few months, and my skin has been unbelievably clear after a long struggle. Recently I had to take an antibiotic for a UTI. The antibiotic interfered with my birth control and decreased its effectiveness, which I knew because I started bleeding and continued to bleed for almost a week and half. This was about three weeks ago. Since the antibiotic and the bleeding, I h
  12. A few earlier studies have suggested a connection between antibiotic therapy for acne and an increased risk of a sore throat. But the new research is the first that follows patients over time, Margolis and colleagues write. The researchers conducted two studies. The first study looked at college students who met with researchers at single visits in January and February 2007. In this study, 10 of 15 students taking oral antibiotics for acne reported having a sore throat in the previous month,
  13. So before accutane I had severe acne on chin and forehead. Derm put me on 2 creams and Doxyciline and my acne was completely cleared but we were already in the process of going on accutane and my derm told me i should go on it because when i stop the antibiotic it will come back. So she started me out on 60mg, and i took it for four months. I basically had maybe 1 or 2 pimples the whole treatment because i started out clear from the antibiotics. I just stopped 2 weeks ago and im so scared its go
  14. Hello everyone. So some of you might have seen my topic about me being on Tretinoin for almost 15 weeks. If not, check it out on my page. My dad called my primary doctor yesterday and told them the Tretinoin 0.025% hasn't been working for me. My primary doctor has prescribed me other things like Doxycycline, Minocycline (like 3 different times!), Differin, Benzoyl Peroxide and Clindamycin, Bactrim, Benzamycin, Epiduo, Duac, and Tretinoin. None of these have worked for me. I thought the Treti
  15. I'm 28 and have been on acne meds for a very long time. I was on and off Accutane from age 18 to 22--two cycles of small doses. Since 2009 I have been either on aldactone (worst drug--regret taking it, because it helped with body acne but not hormonal) and antibiotics. I have gotten nasolabial fold pimples in the same places and so often that I have finally started developing scars for the first time. My skin is scaly, discolored, and covered with whiteheads for three weeks per month. It has
  16. As I said I need to find something better than what I'm now since I'm still breaking out. I've been on topical clindimycin since last December so I need to switch. I see my derm this Friday so I want to come armed with a list of things I'm going to ask about. I know I will ask about being switched from tretinoin cream to gel, don't know which strength. Or even if there is a better thing to use than tretinoin, I'm currently on 0.1% cream by the way. I've tried Differin 0.1% gel and it didn't real
  17. I've been taking if for two days and been getting nauseous and headaches. I don't know if its the pills or something else, but I've been reading a bunch of stories of how horrible it is and that I shouldn't take it. So are the headaches normal? Is this acne medication safe?
  18. Through my most difficult times I was reading through acne.org forums and I promised myself that if I ever cleared up my acne for good I would make an account and share my story. I first started getting acne when I was 10. At first it was only a bunch of tiny bumps on my forehead that weren't noticeable until you came up close. In the following two years, it developed into severe cystic acne over my entire face but somehow it didn't get to me too much, probably since I was still quite young a
  19. So I have a script for doxy for 2 months and am nearly through the first month or so. I use isotrex gel in the evenings too which I have done for about the past 2 months now. Does anyone have any advice for tapering off antibiotics or if I should just stop them cold turkey completely? Also, I have some clindamycin gel which I had been using in the past when off the anti-b's for use in the day, should I start applying this again once I'm off the doxy completely, or during the 'taper' as it were.
  20. Has anyone found that supplimenting antibiotics with probiotics could help the acne stay away after stopping the use of antibiotics? Just curious if there is ANYONE out there who recieved long term and or perminant clear skin from using antibiotics for their acne and maybe some advice on how to break the cycle of acne returning shortly after antibiotics are done. Im taking minocycline now and I refuse to be on it for more than a month, unless my derm can seriously convince me otherwise, I do n
  21. I take minocycline twice a day , clindamycin in the morning & tretinion at night and have been using all for over 2 years and my skins been good it's helped a lot but just last week I started breaking out a lot and each day I get more pimples , I haven't changed my skin care or anything so I have no idea why I'm breaking out so much but I've read that the mino stops working after a while , how would I know if it has stopped working and what do I do if it has? Do I not take the pills anymore
  22. I'm an 18 year old girl and I was on accutane for 8 months when I was 16. Due to a family history of blood clots and a close family member who died of one, when I was prescribed accutane for my cystic acne, my only birth control option was abstinence. Let's face it- I wasn't having sex anyway. My acne cleared up and for the first time since I was 13, I wore tank tops, spaghetti straps, and bathing suits without a tee shirt over it. I was so pleased with my skin and was confident for the first ti
  23. Okay, so my dermatologist is not in the country for a while and i have already finished my 8 weeks azithromycin course(as he has prescribed me).So my next appointment was tomorrow but since he is not here,i do not know what i should be doing now. My acne hasn't completely cleared(i had mild-moderate acne and now my acne is a little worse than mild). My derm has continuously prescribed be 500 mg azithromycin( AT FIRST 6 WEEKS THAN 8 WEEKS WITH A GAP OF TWO WEEKS)So since he is gone should i conti

  25. I've been on Solodyn + Ziana for about 2 weeks now for my moderate acne and in the first week I only had a few headaches and lightheadedness but starting with the second week to now I've been extremely exhausted, having to take naps everyday but my headaches have gone away... For those who have taken Solodyn, does the fatigue usually go away with time?
