  1. im sorryy i havnt been updating as often as i intended to do. My mood has been very down lately and im feeling super depressed. I am not sure if Aldactone is doing much for my acne as I am also using a topical treatment which I just stopped using because it was irritating my skin. My tummy cramps isnt as bad as it was now but I still occasionally get the cramps. I also noticed that my period came earlier than it was supposed to maybe due to aldactone. I might be stopping Aldactone and using chin
  2. Hi guys! I just got my prescription of Spiro 50mg/day for three months to see if it's effective for my skin. I decided to have a log on acne.org to update you on the results (if any!) Background: stubborn acne, started when I was ~9/10 years old, am 21 now. I did Accutane when it was severe (face, back, chest - inflamed, red, etc). Since getting off Accutane my skin + hair became oily again, and I have been experiencing more comedones and some inflamed pimples on my face and chest again. My pr
  3. Okkkkkk so I've never posted on a forum but feel the need now. I've had no acne ever and after the age of 30 I started developing huge cysts that were scarring my face. It was ruining my life. I finally got on aldactone or aka spiro. I'm a nurse and know this isn't for everyone. Keep following cause I have an alternative. So the spiro has been amazing for me. I don't even have to wear makeup anymore. My gf couldn't stay on it because she has normally low blood pressure and she was getting to diz
  4. Hi! I was on Minocycline for 2 years with no relief. A new dermatologist started me on Aldactone about 2 weeks ago. I had been tracking my breakouts and they seem to come 1 week before my menstrual cycle every month. Since then my face has broken out EVERYWHERE! It is so bad, I do not even want to go out in public. Will this mediicne make your breakouts worse before it gets better? Anyone with similar issues? Thank you so much!
  5. I am hoping to receive some feedback from anyone who is currently receiving or has received treatment for acne by using birth control and aldactone. My daughter who is almost 18 has been battling acne since 8th grade. She tried antibiotics, topicals, natural treatments (that did help for awhile), and diet changes. She continued to break out mainly on her forehead (large pustules) and cheeks (some cysts and pustules). She also had acne on her back and chest. In mid-September, her docto
  6. I started the regimen about a week and a half ago, and I am taking spironolactone. Some ppl say that spiro can cause zits to basically harden so that when you pop it, not much comes out except a little hard white thing. I have those ALL over my face, whether it's an actual zit or just a tiny bump, those hard white things are in most of my pores. I find that with a zit if I don't get this thing out, it will just keep coming back until I do. However with the regimen I've been careful not to touch
  7. Hey Guys! So long story short - I don't have health insurance and I convinced my gyno to let my try 50mg of spironolactone for my acne that has become worse. I saw him today (I brought research findings about spiro and hormonal acne with me) and he agreed that things are out of control and is concerned. My acne right now is mostly concentrated along my jawline, cheeks, upper neck, and cheek bones (hormonal locations). My testerone was tested years back and was slightly high, the doc took some
  8. I am a 22 years old, my jawline acne started when I was 19. It started after a very unhealthy summer of lots of drinking, late nights, stress, and unhealthy eating habits. I had just started the atkins diet and the birth control pill (sorry, can't remember which one) when it cropped up.... and almost overnight, cysts took over my lower face. I did everything to try and control it. I stopped taking the birth control pill, I stopped drinking, started eating fruits and complex carbs again (in hop
  9. Hi everyone, this is my first time posting on acne.org.. i'm on my second week of spiro- 50mg the first week, and bumped up to 75. I have seen an improvement in my acne, which i am happy about. However, since being on it, my skin has been so sensitive. when i touch my face, it seems much softer, but also more fragile. it also seems less firm, and mushier (?) almost like an old lady ???? i'm 21 btw. my big concern is my skin has become very sensitive. i used my queene helene face mask yesterday o
  10. Hello everyone, New to this site, but hoping someone out there might be able to give some advice! I'm 29, and I've suffered from bad acne since I can remember. I went on Ortho Tri-Cyclen and it cleared up beautifully. I started breaking out again at 26, and my dermatologist in San Francisco prescribed Spiro on top of the OTC. I'm not a fan of drugs in general, but Spiro has been such a miracle drug for me. My skin is clearer than it's ever been, and the diuretic component helped me shed the
  11. Hi guys, I just started taking Spiro this week at 100 mg a day along with Diane 35. I have read that they prevent new cysts from forming but I was also wondering if they heal existing ones faster?? I currently have 2 deep cysts on my chin which led me to believe that my acne is hormonal. Thankfully, I haven't experienced the dreaded initial breakout (or not yet, knock on wood). But these 2 cysts that I have show no signs of disappearing for more than 2 weeks now. They are like ugly red bumps wit
  12. Hello all. I am at a loss.. Have been on Spironolactone for 3 and a half months. At one month in, my acne started to get worse, and since then has only steadily gotten worse and worse- at this point, the worst it's been since I was 13 or 14 ( I am now 26). I get at least two, if not more, new pimples per day. For the last week and a half or do I haven't had any new cysts, but my existing ones are taking longer than ever to heal. This is my first time on spiro, but I've tried literally everyt
  13. Alright, I’m going to give you the rundown, and try to be short and sweet: moderate acne at age 15, prescribed Bactrim DS - had flawless skin for a year, then ended my course. My acne came back with a vengeance. Tried almost every antibiotic out there with no luck. Went on Doxy, cleared me 85% for 2 years. Went off Doxy. Contracted Lyme disease, and went back on Doxy (it’s a treatment for it - who knew!) with Ampicillin, which subsequently cleared me 85% again. On both for 3 years on and off. Qu

    Week 12 Of Spiro

Hello! So sorry I have been MIA for the past month and a bit! My skin is doing really good though! So Right now I have maybe two small pimples happening. But quite a few little bumps that I think are blackheads. I had two really big ones for the past week and half and they are finally settling down but they stuck out really badly because the rest of my skin looks really clear. My forehead is clear of the little bumps. I use MURAD's spot treatment on my forehead and cheeks despite th

    Week 5 Of Spiro

Hey guys so this hasn't been a good week for me! I've been under a lot of stress, have a major exam coming up in a few days and a whole lot else going on. And I feel like it is taking a toll on my skin. I've broken out quite a bit in the last week and a half. My skin has really dried out, but I feel like its dried out too much and my body is reacting by producing oil. So it looks slightly flaky but shiny. I'm still trying to figure out how to work around this. My forehead was clearing u
  16. Hey theree! So, it's that time of year again where my face goes to shit! So, finally decided to make an account on this site since I've been browsing it for years to find the acne cure miracle.. After years of being stuck with cystic acne, I've decided to try a more hormonal based approach since in the last few months, my skin has fluctuated from 'not too bad' to 'please peel my skin off' levels of intensity. My doctor put me on 25mg of Spiro last week but I've just been 50mg. I'm also using ery
  17. Hi guys! I'm looking for some advice on Spironolactone. I have been off of the Mirena IUD (which was giving me severe cystic acne after 3 years of having it in) for about 4 months now and am on my fourth pack of Beyaz birth control. I am finally seeing a drastic change in my skin. No more cysts at all! It's great. However, I am not 100% clear. I'm thinking about taking Spironolactone, but I have some questions about it first. If this is all super redundant, and you've seen a post where
  18. I've been on Spironolactone since November(ish) of 2011. I can't stand this medication. It has caused irregular periods and I have some type of menstrual flow almost constantly. And subsequently, I often feel crampy, bloated, and miserable. Due to sensitivities to hormonal oral contraceptives (I've tried them all), I can't take them to regulate my cycle. I am going on Accutane on December 3rd, and I'd really like to stop Spironolactone immediately, I'm at the end of my rope. Has anyone gone thro
  19. From May 2009 to fall 2012, I was on spiro, between 50 mg to 100, on and off. All in all, it was a horrible experience. For the first year, I know I was hyperkalemic, it made my hair limp, gross, thinned and greasy, caused serious joint pain and fatigue, and did zero to help with recurrent pattern cystic acne during my period on my cheeks/jaw. It also made my skin grey and saggy, frankly--caused bloat and water retention all over and made me sweaty and tired. (For reference, I took each dos
  20. After years of acne i had crystal-clear skin.. until it became temporarily anavailable. Then i thought i should check if my skin improved by itself, if i grew out of acne. Big mistake.. my skin is slowly going to what it was before spiro, huge frustration. So here i am again, in the 4th week. I wanted to share my results and my fear, that it's not going to work this time... I feel that only people with acne can understand.. The previous days: 1 Oct.: 2 clogged pores inflamed to form zits 2 Oc
  21. Ok I have strived to survive and have ultimately reached the one month mark of spiro. which is good. Considering last year I'd use something for two weeks, freak out and bail on it.... makes for unhappy skin and an unhappy me. The thing that I find interesting after reading various reviews on spiro is that like 99% of people commenting on this med claimed that it caused major upsets in the initial stages due to an explosion of acne which then eventually calmed down. Bloody hell man! if i had
  22. Bloody hell man... like honestly, the same story of getting the old hopes up what with the skin clearing and all then BAM! new breakouts! so shattering... at least one side of my face has managed to stay clear and smooth, now on the waiting side for the acne marks to fade away. The other side of my face however is defying the meds I'm taking and going into remission of breaking out.... rage at life man.... At least it's not as bad and not as many though the more it breaks out, the more red t
  23. So, good news, my skin is clearing up! which is pretty much i'm sure what everyone on this site wants to experience and share... yay yay yay. Bloody hell man, and what a slog it was! Still got a bit to go what with clearing/healing up the red marks left behind from the acne but my face is so soft and smooth now! i'm hardly getting any new ones and they seem to be clearing up pretty quickly too so thank you aldactone/spiro meds for helping me get my confidence back and not being Roaccutane... fin
  24. So, what it's been like 4 days? 5 days? Man i'm dodgy at keeping track and doing daily updates but whatevs bru So I actually think something's happening... well at least I think it is... it doesn't seem any worse at least thank goodness and I have actually been told that it's looking better so here's hoping for continued recovery! I've actually been a bit naughty lately too and ate some bread! shock horror! which I'm not meant to do due to gluten not meshing with the old bods and all..
  25. I have embarked on something new. I have the topical and now get to try the internal stuff.. which is a little bit of concern for me as my body never responded well to any of the oral antibiotics or such stuff, just didn't deal with it at all so that was always a flunk and i was stuck relying on the topical creams to get me by.. which they didn't really, they kind of just made it worse then maybe a bit better and then pretty much static with small fluctuations but since it's either this aldacton
