  1. I wanted to post two pics-one with bad lighting and one with good lighting. Lately, things have been ok. My face is still scarred, but I'm trying to get over it. I try not to look but it's like the mirror is always calling, and I constantly want to take pics in different lighting to see if it's "that bad" (it is). Enjoy!
  2. Hey everyone, Just going to repost the description details in case anyone missed it and wanted the info: A few important details of my Accutane journey: 33 years old, 125pounds/56kg/ 5' 6" Starting off at 10mg Started taking Dianne 35 after realizing Alesse (which I started a few months ago) made my breakouts much much worse. Been suffering from hormonal cystic acne for just over 10 years now. At first it was a couple a year and progressively has gotten to the point whe
  3. ok - so nearly 2 weeks at 40mg of isotretinoin. not much to report really. Still have dry skin on my hairline, temples, around my nose and on my chin, but its not too bad. Lips are dry, but not overly so. I have picky eyes at the moment, and a couple of tiny styes on the lower lash line, they are a bit irritating, but not horrible. I do get a streak of blood when I blow my nose, but nothing to write home about. Yesterday i thought i was starting to break out, had a few small spots on my right
  4. Day 10 - wow... things are going well on 40mgs a day. My dryness seems to have settled and is mostly on my chin area with a little around my nose and at my temples. Lips are dry, but not overly so, no splitting or cracking. My face is red and is deffo sun sensitive! The skin on my back is still bumpy, but smooth, not rough like it was before. It feels much better. Still no breakout, but I am not getting complacent as it will happen at some point I am sure. I went to our local pharmacy on Th
  5. So day 7 - the first week is done! Facial skin is dry and flaky, but manageable. Head is itchy, but that due to the dryness. I have a simple Aqueous cream that I am using at the moment and that seems to be ok. I have tube in work and a big tub at home. I put it on 5-6 times a day at the moment. I have the feeling that my chin is going to break out something really bad. Its itching deep inside and I can feel the spots/cysts forming. I hope they are not as bad as they feel, but will let you k
  6. As a teenager I experienced a small pimple here and there, never anything cystic and never anything I would describe as acne. It wasn't until I turned 23 that my skin began having issues. I returned home from a family vacation with a pretty bad breakout. I tried over the counter products for a couple of months before I decided the breakout wasn't going away. I made an appointment with a dermatologist who took one look at my face (not a very close look) and told me that I had adult acne. Because
  7. No news is good news....2 weeks post antibiotic treatment and continued use of benzoyl peroxide and no new spots.
  8. Last Monday I took my last antibiotic tablet. I'm still using bp every night on my problem area and I haven't had any new spots since I started doing this. From past experience, the earliest my skin has started breaking out post-antibiotic treatment has been about 10 days, so the fact that I'm 6 days in without incident is not surprising. I have gone 3-4 weeks before it started and even as long as 4 months, however, I have never been using bp when I stopped the treatment, so I am really, really
  9. Quick update here....On week 6 I began to get yet another spot in the same damn area so I started using BP again. I started using it very lightly to begin with because I wanted to avoid my skin getting red and flaky. It seemed to work and my skin has now adjusted to the daily use and not becoming overly dry and I haven't had another spot since. It's only been two weeks, but my skin doesn't really feel like it's "on the verge" of a breakout, like it has since I started the antibiotics. I've just
  10. Good morning Starshine! The Earth says hello! You know what's fun? Adult acne... NOT. I have no idea how many accounts I have made on this website and how many logs I have made battling my various acne chronicles (I have forgotten all of the passwords and email addresses from said accounts in the past. I have a feeling that the email account [email protected] no longer exists.) Long story short, had acne sine a teenager. Lots o' topicals (which did shit), antibiotics, three (yes t
  11. So...I haven't updated in awhile. To be honest, there's not been much to tell. For the past 4 weeks, my skin has been healing from the terrible breakout I had before Christmas. I've just started my 5th week of lymecycline and this has been the treatment I've had on several occasions. My last treatment lasted 12 months (!) and my skin stayed clear for 4 months afterwards before beginning to breakout again. In the past, as soon as I started the medication, my skin stopped breaking out. This time,
  12. Just a quick update here. Still not a whole lot to say - no new spots which probably means the antibiotics are starting to work. However, those two big spots between my mouth and nose are actually four. Four! WTF My skin is really dry though I am trying to keep it moisturised. I am no longer using BP all over my problem area because I know the antibiotics should take care of that. I still need to make an appointment for the New Year to get a dermatologist referral... So...yes, slightly
  13. There's not much to say today, my skin is not much better than a few days ago, it could even be a bit worse since there was another new spot on it's way by the time I started taking the antibiotics. From past experiences, I know that the antibiotics do not stop what has already started. I now have two big lumps between my mouth and nose; one of them has come to a head and is now healing, but I think there could be yet another one right next to it, which is probably why it got so huge so quickly.
  14. My prescription just arrived and I couldn't have ripped open the packaging any faster. I don't know if this is the worst breakout I've ever had - but it definitely feels like it. It feels like my body has attacked my face. There also seems to be slow improvement; maybe because the spots have all been so big. If this drug starts working as quickly as it has in the past, I reckon I'll be lucky to have relatively clear skin (as in not much hyperpigmentation left) in 6-8 weeks. Even once these spot
  15. Sigh...my prescription did not come on Saturday, and I don't know if it will come today or tomorrow. Feeling pretty pissed off about it all. My skin is sooo awful right now. I've temporarily stopped with the BP as it's so drying; my clear skin is almost as red as the spotty skin. I've been re-reading my blog and have come to the conclusion that BP was probably the solution to getting my skin clear after I came off the first round of antibiotics. And it worked fairly quickly - 5 weeks is all it t
  16. I didn't follow up from my last blog post, but basically, I was put on a 12 month (!!) course of lymecycline. The doctor felt that I needed to take a year's worth to get this out of my system. So... I finished taking them in June 2016, and I was scared shitless that it was all going to start again. And it did....but not for 4 months. in October of this year I got quite a big cyst/spot (or 3 --hard to tell, but i think there was more than one going on) on my chin (right side this time!) just in t
  17. I just wanted to write a brief history of my experience with acne before going into writing accutane blogs. I have had acne since I was nine years old. When I was younger it was only a few pimples but it got worse throughout middle school. It seemed to calm down in high school and college but I still never had clear skin. Now after graduating college it has all flared up again. When I was in middle school I used Retin-A and differin topical creams that were prescribed to me by my primary c
  18. I am so happy to say that my skin is sooo much better. I am still taking 100 mg spiro and birth control once a day, at night before bed. Not only is my skin drastically clearer, but it's softer. Now that my acne is no longer an issue, I can do other things like clarifying masks, eye creams, toner sprays, and all of these other things I was too afraid to try before. For any one who feels like they are at wits end with their adult acne please please - give spironolactone a try!
  19. Day 1. 9:00 Washed with Proactive added pure aloe gel or scabs along with Simple 24 hr day/night cream. Skin on forehead so oily by 1:00 Thinking about somehow adding more BP to the proactive cream. I like the way the system works and it suppresses around 80% of it but it doesn't stop my face from getting oily and it doesn't keep the CC away. Food: Breakfast Vegan pancakes (banana, Egg, vanilla &honey), Lunch: Chicken, gluten free corn chips. Drank a LOT of water though with Crystal l
  20. Background I have been stuggling with acne for the past few months. I had started on proactive when I was in 6th grade for moderate acne. it cleared me up completely until about a year ago then it stopped working. I went odd of it my face freaked out (the worst acne I ever had) I went back on, it has been mostly clear besides A LOT of Closed Condones & Mild Scarring & Hyperpigmentation Starting to also get large cystic Acne from Birth Control- I am going to change it soon. Goa
  21. Today was my third dermatology appointment. I had my initial appointment, one at three months and today at 6 months. The derm was happy that I am no longer breaking out. He said I have to be on it for 8 months in total, not 11 like I thought so that's good. I have worked out my cumulative dose. I am 9st 2lb which is 58KG, I have 8 more weeks to go at 30mg a day which is 210mg a week. From when I started to when I finish I will have done 33 weeks. You need 120mg a KG at minimal for permanent re
  22. Nothing much to report here really. I have had two noticeable spots in the past week or so, weirdly in the same place but on opposite sides in front of my ears. The one in front of my left ear now feels huge under the skin. Other than that pretty good really. I still have the Hyper-pigmentation but I find if I skip a day on the meds then that seems to fade a little, I am hoping that means it will fade pretty quickly when I stop the medication for good. I have had some muscle and back pain on a
  23. I had been on Mononessa for one year and a half. It cured my severe hormonal acne within a year, and my skin looked flawless for another six months. However, everything changed after I switched my birth control brand at the beginning of the year due to my break-up. The new pharmacy I found did not offer Mononessa, so I had to take Sprintec instead. I did not think twice, because they have the same active ingredients. How foolish I was! Especially for a chemistry student. I started notice minor b
  24. Hello all :-) I am on day 4 of the acne.org regimen! I've tried to keep notes of every day on the regimen to keep track of my progress and so far this is what I have. The first morning I woke up with a breakout on my chin but the scars around my cheeks were visibly lighter. The next day I woke up with just white heads (which rarely happens for me, I usually have cysts), and my pores also appeared to be smaller. BUT, on this day I was kind of lazy with the application, and waited too longer a
